state agencies using maps in thier logos

This sort of caught my eye yesterday when I was in Reno. I noticed a Nevada Dept of Transportation vehicle and the logo it had on it

ndot_bnr.jpg

this wasnt the only thing I saw there that featured the map of Nevada in its logo. banks used it, as well as social service agencies.

Now I know in Texas it is extremely popular to use the state map as part of a logo. However from what Ive seen, it is just as popular in Nevada as well.

In fact, the shape of the Nevada map works better as a logo element then the Texas map does.

Hey, that's pretty slick -- I had to look at it for a second to see the state outline. (Am I the only one thinking 'WGBH' when I see that, though?)

In Texas, the Lone Star shows up a *lot* in logos and such, probably because it's a lot easier to work into a design than the state outline. Same deal with Pennsylvania's keystone.

Ohio's silhouette is frequently used as well. its mostly states that have an interesting and recognizable shape that are used in such a way, e.g. you probably don't see too many designers talking about how they've cleverly incorporated the outline of the state of Colorado in their design. That Nevada logo is very attractive, though, and i love those guys from USI. We play them in Ultimate quite frequently, and they always bring a fun game.

I still don't have a website, but I have a dribbble now! http://dribbble.com/andyharry

haha NDOT, U of nevada Reno does it too

Renos is awesome, our traffic situations now... much less so

God Reno has the worst traffic probelms. I went over to Reno on Monday and it took me forever to get from Bishop Manogue High School to Meadow Wood Mall. I like Reno, its close to home and ive considered moving there many times then i remember how fluffing cold it gets in the winter and how bad the traffic is

washington outline is used too... i guess

news release: they recently changed their names to the Arab Center of Washington, their previous name was the Arab Terrorist World Headquarters, they thought the new name would be more appealing to outsiders, thus bringing in more interest in terrorist related activity.

13 states plus D.C. use map outlines on their state highway route markers.

12 are basically plain squares.

7 are circles.

2 are diamonds.

16 have other shapes or symbols.

Interesting to note that only nine use colours other than just black and white. Only two (California, Minnesota) use no black, while only one (Kansas) uses no white.

There really is no need for that. Not all Arabs or Muslims are terrorists. In fact, the vast majority aren't. Its the 00.01% that ruin it for everyone else
