LMU
I liked the fisherman logo. The jersey desighn was ugly. If the striping pattern of those jerseys were simpler it would have been perfect. I have to agree 100%. The logo was great... they just failed with the striping and the silly wavy numbers.
JH42XCC
By the way, it's this weeks CCSL Logo Fact:After a slew of unsuccessful campaigns, the NHL's New York Islanders wanted a new identity, of course this would also completely abondon look of their 4-consecutive Stanley Cup victories just a decade earlier. The Islanders changed their colour scheme, and their rather traditional jersey pattern for a look never before seen in the National Hockey League. Gone was orange and blue, here was teal and green, with waves and a fisherman. The fans hated the new look, and fans from all over the NHL would mock the club because of their makeover. Shortly after introducing the new look it was gone, back to their old logo and uniforms.

Stampman
The worst was when they tried to make everyone happy by slapping the traditional NY Long Island logo on the fishsticks jerseys. Stupid thing that was...... I remember hearing at the time, that the team wanted to go back to the old unis--but applied for the change too late, and so had to use the "new" ones another season before switching back--as the Old logo was still an official log they put it on the jerseys. It wasn't an attempt to make everybody happy, but a compromise while they waited to return to the original look. griffelh
If only they would completely return to the old look. I do not like the new shade of blue, not do I like the extra layer of white outline that they added to the numbers.
VitaminD
Didn't loathe the Fisherman the way many seemed to, but it was too much. The huge portrait, plus the net behind him, plus the wordmark. All in all, very heavy for a crest, too much to take in. Like the lighthouse enough to want it back, with today's colors. Hated hated hated the wavy line uniforms; it was like they were trying too hard with the funky numbers and HUGE player names. Made me seasick. Numbers and names are there first and foremost to identify, not to induce nausea. "Start spreading the news... They're leavin' today... Won't get to be a part of it... In old New York..."In order for the Mets' run of 12 losses in 17 games to mean something, the Phillies still had to win 13 of 17.
Phil
I recently ventured onto Ebay to purchase one of the NYI fisherman jerseys.Like my Ottawa Senators jersey, I wear it with pride, not because I love the team, but because it is an achievement of graphic design to have made the Senators and Islanders look good. rmackman
Didn't the Islanders initially just take the fisherman logo off the jersey and put the current logo on it even with the weird colors? Then they later switched the entire jersey?Hey look I found this on the interent through google...looks...umm...familiar.... "Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be eaten. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve. It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle. When the sun comes up, you'd better be running." - Unknown | Check out my articles on jerseys at Bacon Sports

rmackman
Here are some Islanders jerseys over the years:So you can sort of see how it evolved. On one hand I feel like the Islanders should have stayed royal blue, but on the other hand the Rangers are royal so they might as well differentiate themselves. Brian in Boston
Me? I liked the entire rebranding of the Islanders. Sure, the wave-striping pattern at the hem of the jersey's torso could have been rendered a bit simpler, but I was a fan of the new look.
DrBear
I'm not a close follower of NHL hockey - no team in this area that gets regular play, although we do get an occasional Wild game on FSN North - but I can see why those jerseys were jeered. That said, I like the fisherman logo, although I can see why fans wanted to keep the symbol of the past winning teams.Start a new team called the "skippers" or "mariners" and give them that logo, and I think there'd be more approval. jkrdevil
Ray Ferraro said it best about about those uniforms on NHL2night a few years ago. He said:"We walked into the locker room and wondered why Stan Fichler (Annoucer for the 3 New York teams) was on the uniform."That even tops the Gordon comparison. tommytimp
I agree the Fisherman (or Islander, whatevere) logo was too heavy. But I always thought it was a little too maligned. and I loved the not-so-subtle shout out to Long Island itself at the bottom of the logo and on the shoulders. HedleyLamarr
I was led to believe by the topic of this thread that i would be presented with reasons and explainations as to the relative detriment to logos that this particualr one caused. You, sir, are in violation of that expection, and I demand my 2 minutes back! It took you two minutes to read four words and look at a picture? Those academic standards at Tech sure have gone to crap.....
