NEW D'Backs and Reds Changes(pg 4)

From the Reds notes in the Cincinnati Enquirer today:
NEW HAT, OLD HAT: A representative of New Era, supplier of Major League Baseball hats, dropped off a couple of dozen home hats the Reds will wear next year. The hats are part of an overall uniform change.

They are all red with a white "C" with thin black trim.

"I like 'em," Narron said.

They are similar to hats the Reds wore in the '70s to early '90s.

The new Reds uniforms will be unveiled at Redsfest.

No mention of course that the Reds are supposed to already HAVE an all-red cap with a black-trimmed C (they wore it twice in 2000 and that's it in the eight years of this uni set), but at least I probably won't have to buy all-new caps.

The All Red cap is technically their alternate right now, but they never wear it with the Sunday Jerseys. You can pick it up at MLB.com or Lids.

Well, the Diamondbacks changes are more or less official. I was watching the Mets vs. Braves on TBS last night and one of the announcers, not sure which, mentioned that the D-Backs are changing colors & uniforms next year. This came up while they were discussing the Padres/D-Backs game. I have read that MLB has a policy not to annouce changes until after the World Series but this is the worst kept secret and the teams should just announce it now and show the uniforms for next year.

those new d'back uniforms won't last very long. give them three to five years before another makeover. the small letter wordmark "D'backs" suck! suck! suck!!

Thats' not really a profound statement given that Phoenix sports teams tend to do that anyway every five years. Our teams(sans Cardinals until recently) suffer from Economic ADD.

that's good news. That means I don't have to buy a new reds hat, and I can continue to wear the all red one that I've had for the last 4 years.

Today at the Cubs game, the Wrigley Field Scoreboard was prominently using their old sleeve patch cub for the "Fan Appreciation Weekend" promotion. Every time they'd give something away, the logo would show up -- it was even slightly bigger than their current primary. Not sure it means much, but since they are supposedly announcing a uniform change on Nov. 15 (that I assume is more than just the return of player names to home jerseys, which was already on the Cubs site weeks ago). Maybe a return to the old patch?

This is the one:

It's probably nothing, but it's the first time I noticed them using that logo on their scoreboards.

Didn't the Twins toy with a red alt several years back, one that never made it to the field--even modeling it once?

Oh no, that alt made it onto the field, in 1996. Red, with white lettering and numbering outlined in blue. ESPN pounded it mercilessly, calling the "Dairy Queen" uniform. One game, the Twins were wearing it, and SportsCenter showed a highlight... with a Dairy Queen ad behind the batter. Patrick and Olbermann lost it then and there and could barely finish the segment.

Personally, I liked it. I'd love to get my hands on a Molitor one.

I own one of those Twins "Dairy Queen" jerseys. A Mike-Trombley gamer. Sweet jersey--they shouldn't have listened to those lunkheads on ESPN!

do you have an image of it?

I can shoot it pretty easily, but have little to no idea how to get it available on the site. Help, anyone?

Notice that the article says "dropped off a couple of dozen home hats the Reds will wear next year. That would lead me to believe that there will be different road caps, most likely the red with black bill, like they've been wearing at home. Ugh! I was really hoping that the road caps would be solid red, too.

I'm happy that they've pulled back on the black, but they should've eliminated it altogether. The black bill on the Red cap just doesn't work. Two tone works for Atlanta, Oakland, and Cleveland. It doesn't work for the Reds and Cubs.

i still cant see the differce with the reds color scheme

Look at something other than the colors.

For those that have made comments about the Reds' running man, it's facing left because it is going to be on the left sleeve. If it faced right, it would be looking backward instead of forward.

Save the slugalo.

Really dissapointed that the Reds continue to use black. I was hoping for a return of the '68-'71 uniforms. Simple and classic.

I'm hoping that they do away with the red cap with the black bill, as well. That cap has never looked right to me. Also looks like the black jackets are going to hang around. Not a fan of the black.

I don't see anything wrong with the Diamondback's new scheme except for the abbreviation. Why not have a "Diamond" above "Backs" instead of the abbreviation?

Its funny how people keep refering to that like it is some new bad trend. There are a few other teams who have had the same thing going on too for a while now. The White Sox only have the word "Sox" in their uniform combo, the Devil Rays have "Rays", Toronto Blue Jays have "Jays", The Oakland Athletics have "A's" (although that is arguably their name), etc.

This is just a way to make "D-Backs" the team moniker. Simple as that. People may not like it, but at least its not completely out of left field. It kinda makes sense. If there was a team name called the "Thunderbirds" you most likely would see the team called the "T-Birds" so why not the "D-Backs" right?
