FiddySicks
Just heard it on WGN, more info to followBeck dead at 38Very sad story. Beck was by far one of my favorite pitchers to ever take the mound. But even so, he lived a very rough personal life and I always thought he'd be the guy who died way too young. Unfortunately, I was correct. R.I.P Rod, swing that arm on the great pitchers mound in the sky. On 11/19/2012 at 7:23 PM, oldschoolvikings said: She’s still half convinced “Chris Creamer” is a porn site.) Bronxmet
God bless the late great Rod Beck.He was a great closer for the 1993 Giants. However, he lost his job to Robb Nen a few years later.

The_Admiral
Rest in peace, Shooter. Those '98 Cubs were a fun bunch. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫
tp49
I was fortunate enough to have met Shooter on several occasions in SF and NY when he swung through with the Giants. Nicest guy you'd ever want to meet. Unfortunately it appears that the demons that appeared later in his career may have been too much to bear. It's a shame and he will be missed. VitaminD
Holy that guy used to scare the crap out of me when he'd come in to pitch. Not just the hair, not just the fu manchu, but more the fact that I knew the game was over and my team wasn't ahead. Now I am more scared that he was only 6 years older than me. R.I.P. "Start spreading the news... They're leavin' today... Won't get to be a part of it... In old New York..."In order for the Mets' run of 12 losses in 17 games to mean something, the Phillies still had to win 13 of 17.
Swiss
Five minutes ago I remembered that the Red Sox and Giants games should be finished. So I went to the Yahoo Sports News to check their scores: woooow! My Jints beat the Yanks (yeah, yeah) and my Red Sox beat the Padres... I was happy......until I read this little article: "Rod Beck Dies"... Rod Beck?!?! That funny character?!?!?! Noooooooo...!!! I used to like him, he pitched for the Giants and later for the BoSox, justly my dearest teams... he was one of my favorite players... not a future Hall of Famer but a very good player that knew how to steal all the fondness of the fans with his words, his moustache, his image... Man, oh man, it really sucks!I'll miss you, Rod Beck! Go Jints, go Red Sox, go Rod! It's great to be young and a Giant! - Larry Doyle
CC97
Great closer, loved the facial hair... rvrdgsfn
Tis a very sad day, & at 38 too. Damn, hell of a closer.
IronChefShark
in the mid-90s it could be argued that there was no more of an intimidating presence on the mound then Rod Beck's mullet blowing in the swirling Candlestick wind US state flag concepts
Mac the Knife
Now I am more scared that he was only 6 years older than me. R.I.P.We (Beck and I) are the same age. You've got nothing to worry about, VD, unless you've been doin' lines of coke, drinking heavily, and otherwise abusing your body in potentially lethal ways. McCall
Now I am more scared that he was only 6 years older than me. R.I.P.We (Beck and I) are the same age. You've got nothing to worry about, VD , unless you've been doin' lines of coke, drinking heavily, and otherwise abusing your body in potentially lethal ways.A little ironic, this being said to a man with the initials, VD... ... kidding.I remember Beck quite well. Never was a fan of his, mainly because he never played for the Cardinals, but always the team I liked least, and did a hell of a job with them. Dominating closer during the mid-90's. And while I may not have been a fan, I damn sure respected him as a ballplayer. I only disliked him in that "he plays on another team" kind of way, nothing personal. So rest in peace, oh Mustachio and donner of the Mighty Mullet. Your ability to strike pure intimidation into the souls of those who played for, or rooted for, the team playing against you, may never be duplicated... as well as your hair and facial hair style. https://dribbble.com/MakaioCall
hormone
Met him in a bar in Pittsburgh after the '94 All Star game. Cool guy. He talked and hung out instead of signing my hat and turning away. RIP. We need more people who are not "above" the average joe out there.
NJTank
I read somewhere he used to hang out and drink beers with fans after the game www.sportsecyclopedia.com For the best in sports history go to the Sports E-Cyclopedia at http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com
Billy B
I read somewhere he used to hang out and drink beers with fans after the gameYeah, when Beck was trying to make a comeback a few years ago he was living in a trailer outside of the outfield wall of the Iowa Cubs field. The Cubs announcers said that he would invite fans into his trailer to drink after a win.
