dirwuf
After viewing all the official Dolphins highlight films from 1966 thru 1974, the following info should clarify the situation once and for all...The "in the sun" logo (pictured above on the left) was worn in the Dolphins initial season of 1966, but only for the first 3 games. They then switched to the "out of the sun" (the one on the right) version for the remainder of '66 and all of '67 and '68. Starting with 1969, the Dolphins again went to the "in the sun" version (although they went logoless in the 1970 preseason). This continued until the final regular season game of 1973 when about half the team (mostly lineman) started wearing the "out of the sun" version. This anomoly continued for the 1973 playoffs, including Super Bowl 8 against the Vikings. Pictures (like the one below) which show both logos on the field at the same time come from this 4 game period. Please also note that this "out of the sun" logo is much smaller than the one worn in the '60's.In 1974, the Dolphins went exclusively to this smaller "out of the sun" logo. One exception was running back Norm Bulaich, who played with the team in the late 70's, wore the old "in the sun" version. Sometime around 1990, perhaps due to a change in manufacturer, the dolphin in the logo (but not the sun) became slightly larger. The "in the sun" logo was brought back for throwback games in 1994 against the Jets and Vikings; but the 2003 Thanksgiving throwback (which was supposed to be the '73 uniform) incorrectly used the early '90's version of the logo. One last note, the helmet striping on the 1966-67 era helmets was much thinner and spread apart than what was used from 1968 onwards. STL FANATIC
I think it's a sun now. Though, I believe what you were saying SHB.In this version, that thought works, as he could still go through. However, in this version he can't get back through. paynomind
Actually, perspective to be believed, he missed the hoop altogether. His tail should be behind the hoop, were it to be jumping through. Stampman
I've always wondered why the Dolphin was wearing a different helmet--shouldn't it be wearing a Dolphins helmet?
