dfwabel
Well the 65 schools of the Power 5 Conferences have won. INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The NCAA’s board of directors endorsed a proposal Thursday giving schools in the five largest football conferences more autonomy and more voting power in changing rules within the organization. The changes would allow the wealthiest schools to adopt some legislation on their own, including provisions for money beyond what current scholarships cover, up to the full cost-of-attendance, expanded insurance coverage and money to help families travel to NCAA tournaments. The proposal would affect the 65 schools in the ACC, Big 12, Big Ten, Pac-12 and SEC.NCAA President Mark Emmert supports the move. A formal vote is expected in August. If passed then, the transition could begin this fall. The board also approved allowing schools to provide unlimited meals and snacks to athletes.Good luck AAC, MWC, SunBelt and C-USA. But people also bitched about student-athletes not being able to get food at 11pm.

EDIT:Hot off the wires: UMass football to the Sun Belt?! *gets another gallon of LSD for Mr. Popo*Wouldn't be surprised to see UMass in the Sun Belt. Benson's been hellbent on getting to 12 teams for football even if it means adding schools like Idaho and New Mexico State. They've been looking for an eastern team since Western Kentucky moved to C-USA (the school Benson seemingly worshipped while everybody else expected them to move one) and seem to have gotten the cold shoulder from James Madison and want nothing to do with Liberty. 4_tattoos
Can't help but think that we'll eventually see the Power 5 conferences officially form their own football subdivision in the near future (10 to 20 years). Some people have said those schools would just leave the NCAA altogether. In my mind leaving the NCAA would severely hurt the non revenue sports of the P5 schools. Forming a new subdivision of D1 would both keep them in the NCAA fold and give the babies their bottle.I don't like what's going on with college sports Quote Hotter Than July > Thriller

You can rest assured that C-USA will get an application package from New Mexico State before the end of the week. Not saying they'll let them in, but I strongly suspect New Mexico State would lobby hard for that spot. LMU
NMSU definitely is the leading horse of the jettisoned WAC football programs. Idaho's still on life support since I've heard rumors for a while that they may end up dropping down to FCS and joining the Big Sky.

They would have pretty high travel costs if they were to play in any other league than the MWC, and they're probably not going to take them.
