rams80
But...but...Canadians love hockey. So much for any other AHL move to the far west in the near future. And so much for the tenuous support Lord David had.EDITKaetler said the expenditures come at a time when the city is having trouble paying for police officers. Abbotsford-Mission was dubbed the murder capital of Canada in 2009.Anybody want odds on the mayor being found dead in an alley in the next three months? Corvus
Who would have thought attendance wouldn't be great to watch the prospects of the Canucks most hated rival in a market in Greater Vancouver. I mean, this might have been a good idea if they had gotten the Canucks affiliate. Maybe. But the Flames AHL team? Sheer stupidity.

I mean, this might have been a good idea if they had gotten the Canucks affiliate. Maybe. But the Flames AHL team? Sheer stupidity.I'm assuming the relationship between the Moose and the Canucks is obviously a great one.But in a perfect world Vancouver and Calgary just switch AHL affiliates and the Canucks can do what ever they want with Abbotsford. I really didn't like the idea of Abbotsford and now it's really coming a reality and it starts with the Flames ownership like what made them consider Abbotsford, in British Columbia where the Flames aren't very well liked. After the trail of nuked markets the Flames have left in their wake, that's the only place willing to take them.2. The Abbotsford town fathers are retarded and are willing to subsidize a hockey team located roughly 2000 miles from their closest opponent and guaranteeing travel subsidies for much of that 2000 miles. The_Admiral
Do we have to start writing Only the Goddamned AHL now? I'm pretty sure we all called this last summer or whenever, easily noting the franchise-killing triumvirate of Flames hate, proximity to Chilliwack, and travel subsidies. My theory has long been is that because hockey is so eminently the #4 sport, all the people who are successful businessmen or merely slightly insane resolve to participate in the bigger and more successful sports leagues, which leaves hockey with the gutter scum and incompetents that amuse and annoy us so. Only in hockey would you have a parent club that not only salts the earth in every town it visits, but for a coup de grace arranges to put the farm club in the hated rival's backyard, 2000 miles from the rest of the league, the costs of which they must bear. Leagues and cities without their heads up their asses would never let this happen. Instead of subsidizing a hockey team, Lilly Kaetler says tax dollars should be spent on roads and police officers.those socialist canadians ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

The_Admiral
I really think the Chicago Wolves should just be independent. They're probably more profitable than the Atlanta Thrashers are, and are clearly much more concerned with coordinating Al Secord Bobblehead Night than working with their nominal parent team (and no parent team is more nominal than this one) to develop talent. Field a team of NHL washouts like Chelios and KHL-ish guys who are beholden to no one and tear up the league. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

The_Admiral
lol irony.I don't think this throws into question B.C.'s ability to support hockey, since they appear to be supporting it very well down the street in Chilliwack, and over in Vancouver, and other various stops on the Dub circuit. This arrangement is just such that there's no possible way the team can do anything but hemorrhage money. Again, we detailed all this months ago. I hope Abbotsford comes to its senses and cuts these guys loose. A Calgary Flames farm team isn't worth subsidizing. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫
