Guys this was on either uniwatch or jersey database a long time ago.The colors are based off the Miami city Flag. There was a concept that if every team wore the colors of their city flag.

Yep, Uni Watch. It was at least a year ago. The state flag in the bottom corner is a dead giveaway.

The Marlins have a unique color scheme that fits their team and identity perfectly. Why change it?

They look the same as the Rockies and the White Sox if I don't have my glasses on. Some uniqueness.

Kind of off-topic, but I hate that the Rockies, White Sox, and Marlins all look the same. The White Sox kind of have a good thing going with their set, Colorado and Florida/Miami shouldn't try to copy it. The Marlins need to emphasize teal more (or maybe orange?), and the Rockies need to emphasize purple more. It'd even be real easy for the Rockies - they already have the best alternate in baseball, the purple jerseys, just gathering mothballs in the equipment room. Break them out once a week and start building a better identity.

I could see the Marlins having a great looking set with red and yellow if they use colors similar to the St. Petersburg Pelicans or team Venezuela from the WBC.

A team color scheme that's shockingly not used at all in MLB. The MLB really has the least varied color schemes in sports, and it kind of sucks. Every other league has a nice variety. There's way too many red-white-and-blue teams and red-and-white teams for my liking. Change it up for once!!

I've never seen a red Marlin before.

I thought the same thing, lol. Take away the color of the fish?

But then I looked around, and apparently it no longer matters whether it's plausible an animal would be the color the team uses.

We have orange bobcats and blue bears in the NBA, as well as red bulls and teal hornets.

I've never seen a blue and gold ram, orange haired horse, or blue accented panther as in the NFL.

All the other close calls you can kinda get away with, just different shades. But unless I haven't seen some weird type of those animals in the color the teams used, I think they just said whatever. It's stupid I think, but authenticity is a thing of the past I supposed.

Not to mention they gotta change the color scheme to sell a whole new slew of merchandise.

i just want a black hat with a teal/silver M-fish logo. when can i get on of those?

You can make one anytime you want, but David Samson was on the radio last Wednesday stating that the changes would be made public in November.

And when they do, you won't be able to get what you want - the teal will be gone. Or at least significantly minimized.

Speculation around the organization (and this is from a season ticket rep) is that the new colors will be some combination of what's on the new ballpark logo.

The light blue is being used all over marketing for the ballpark.

Yellow, red, blue and green is being used in the ballpark to separate sections. Yellow is first base, blue is home, red is third base and green is the outfield.

Interestingly, of all those colors light blue and orange are now prominently featured in the ballpark renderings like these colors.

Orange/yellow/blue/green would be a suitably colorful and unique palette for the Miami Marlins. I'd like that a hell of a lot more than Samson's stupid "we are orange and black" thing.

Actually, they should get that bump even if they keep their current scheme once they put "Miami" on the unis.

Exactly. The second those two teams decided to act like teal & purple didn't exist in their identity is the second they lost their uniqueness.

That stadium is going to look horrible

Why? Because it doesn't look like Camden Yards or Fenway?

To be honest, I like the little touches their doing. It's going to be a great place to watch a game and walk around.

Including the tribute to the Orange Bowl, as well as the way their handling sponsors and the Fish Tanks behind home plate.

Only thing that sucks is the CF HR feature.

Because Jeffrey Loria doesn't like the color teal. End of story. He thinks it's an "80's color". So in the shenanigans involved in the Expos/Red Sox/Marlins ownership swap in 2002, he came to town, took almost all of the teal out of the clubs identity, and forced the use of the obscure orange color(the laces on the baseball of the primary logo, which btw is has not been used in years because it reads "Florida") on everything except the uniforms(ads, giveaways, etc.).

Now of course if he tried this kind of crap in Chicago, LA, or NY, he'd get laughed out of town. But because we are such a young baseball market he thinks it's okay to come in and do whatever the hell he wants. That's why we'll have blue seats, an epilepsy-inducing monstrosity(what he calls "art") in center field, and a rainbow of tile at the new ballpark. The whole place is gonna look like the bathrooms at the mall. If you love your team's look, PRAY you don't end up with an art dealer owning your favorite team.

I would not be surprised at all if the actual uniforms for 2012 look even WORSE than those crappy mock ups LoMo posted.
