New Marlins Uniforms?

Well, for any of the Doubting Thomases, that should be the final confirmation.

I dont remember if it was in this thread or the MLB 2012 thread, but someone passed along a rumor that the Marlins would be dealing for Guillen. Lo and behold, SI is reporting that tonight.

I have a feeling they're going to pull a 1997 and go after every major free agent in the game.

I got more details out of my uncle, who's in town. They have multiple new caps, and at least one of them isn't black. He said that the logo that's been leaked isn't exactly what's going to be on the caps. He thinks that the uniforms are actually rather classy looking, not uber-modern as people have feared. Both home and away have MIAMI as the script. Oh, and he said that the Marlins have a deal in place to trade for Ozzie Guillen. It's pretty much a done deal after the season ends.

I will never doubt your uncle again.

That will be a great day in White Sox history. That may be the biggest ***hole manager in MLB history.

I think Guillen & the Loria/Samson dictatorship is going to be a huge train wreck. Not excited for that at all.

Disturbing flamboyant colors, generic Microsoft PowerPoint clipart logo, and an ***hole manager......what could go wrong? hahaha

If baseball fandom were like stock, I'd jump on the Marlins right now. With all of the changes being made, the fact that Loria basically unwrapped the deed to the new park like a Christmas present, and his overall net-plundered-worth, I think the days of the Marlins just f*****g around and playing grab ass are over. I bet they go into this off season with the intentions of becoming the Miami Heat tenfold. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see them drop a stupid amount of money on Pujols to the point where it even makes the Yankees blush. Then, they'll keep going. I don't expect it to be sustainable, but for at least a season or two or three, I think the Marlins are going to become monsters.

i think he'll be a good fit in Miami, the stadium is located smack-dab in the middle of "Little Havana" where's the largest concentration of hispanic people in Miami. (I live like 20 mins away from the stadium now and used to live about 5 mins from the former Orange Bowl) He can definitely fire up the crowd down here but i think he'll be a problem with Loria/Samson. if they booted Girardi i'm amazed they got Ozzie...

i can only imagine his reaction to the new unis lol

For those wondering what happened to all the images in this thread...

At the request of Major League Baseball we will not be showing any unreleased MLB logos on these message boards. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and hope you understand.

can you kindly remove the image of the hideous logo that has been burned into the back of my brain too?

:)

I'm curious now...there's been a ton of backlash. Would the Marlins go back to the drawing board, or would they just say screw you guys, we'll do what we want. By the way, this was a quote from an article today:

Jeffrey Loria clearly wants to make a splash when the rechristened team moves into its new, $515 million home in April.

"Basically, what Jeffrey has instructed all of us is that no stone will be left unturned in order to make this year a memory and make next year unforgettable,' said team president David Samson, who would not discuss possible free-agent targets.

"He said, 'I want people to forget about '11, forget about Sun Life Stadium, forget about the Florida Marlins, and I want the Miami Marlins to have their franchise start by making history.'

So we're all in agreement that 2 of the last 12 champions never happened? We should forget those too I guess huh?

LMAO Ozzie Guillen? Love the guy, he was here in 2003, but I cannot imagine a scenario where that ends well.

Loria canned Joe Girardi after he won Manager of the Year. Ozzie is a powder keg. I'll bet the local Marlins beat writers are licking their chops over that possibility.

Yea, I don't like that at all. Some teams (Cubs, Indians, and etc) have gone forever without winning it all and the "new" Marlins have done it twice. This is why I think they should go back to their roots and go back to 90% teal and severely limit any black. This whole thing is a shame and any hype that is generated after 11-11-11 will quickly die down and everyone will forget all about the Marlins again.

I wouldn't doubt if Loria believed the actual STATE of Florida didn't exist until he got there.

The "M" reminds me of the Maroon 5 logo:

maroonLogo.jpg

Too funny, yes it does!

I saw the logo tonight on ESPNs site and was thinking "This has to be a joke" - apparently its confirmed! Wow

It's an art deco based "M" - fitting for the Miami / South Beach vibe, but just I can't picture this on a jersey.. (I should try a mock up)

But the colors inside the single letter..it's way too busy! Current team colors, but who thought -"lets add some yellow to it(??!?)"

The futuristic Marlin coming out of the left side of the M, looks like an upside down Nike logo.

Well at least the new stadium has a roof, so no more constant rain delays when the Phillies & other teams play down there.

Wait, you're using the two World Series titles as the reasons to go back to a look they wore before those titles?

I hate to break it to everyone again, but teal is not walking through that door. In fact, teal caps have been gone for 15 years now, and teal was reduced to a trim color for almost 10. For all the clamoring for teal -- and if I'm being honest, I think those road unis look great and the black F cap is one of my all time favorites -- you need to direct your affection to the Northwest and the team that is embracing the teal -- the Seattle Mariners. I'd like the Marlins to keep it -- check that, bring it back -- and if they use a Hornets-like blue it might still feel like teal, but as long as someone in MLB is sticking with it, I'm fine with it. This orange look might be interesting and add to the variety.

And yet at the same time, they've confirmed that is, indeed, the new logo. (At least one of them.)

"Unreleased"? Come on, people have known about it for a week. This move just reeks of Loria's meddling fingers.

It's the Dan Snyder strategy. "I don't want sports fans bashing what we do, so I'll just try to censor them in any way possible and use corporate blabber to cover my tracks! GENIUS!"

And yeah, the hype has already been blown. It will be an absolute travesty if MLB opens up the new park and it's only half full because nobody in Miami cares about the Marlins. There were more Nats fans at the game on Monday cheering on Chris Marrero than there were Marlins fans.

I don't get that at all. It's not uncommon for leagues to crack down on leaks, particularly here, where Chris depends on their good graces for access.

Don't know. Perhaps they hoped the commotion would die down. Perhaps they just realized that the Blue Jays logo was also leaked, and that pushed them over the top.

We'll never know. I know it's tempting to see the spectre of Loria in this, but we can only ever wildly speculate to that end.
