The old one was terribly unbalanced. Very bad design. Although I personally am not wild about the style of this one, the design is far superior.

Simply by virtue of eliminating the slack-jawed fish, the so-unbalanced-it-practically-topples F logo, the washed-out color scheme, and properly identifying as a Miami team rather than the team of an entire large, heterogeneous, and simultaneously represented state, it's an upgrade. Not a perfect one, but an upgrade all the same.

That's a pretty big assumption, looking at other retail batting helmets.
The retail model of the Cubs batting helmet uses the stitched logo.

I guess so. I find the new one to be a horrible concept and terrible execution all around.

Goth has pretty much summed up my feelings on the matter, although in a much more pleasantly verbose style. He is the Greg Proops to my Doug Stanhope.

Much like the city of Miami! (as far as I can remember. Haven't been there in 20 years)

That's about the size of it.

I've liked this thing ever since I saw the conceptual animation. Not everything in sports needs to be mean and intimidating and Under Armour-ized. There should always be a place for artistic expression in a stadium.

I completely agree. I really don't understand why so many people think every baseball franchise needs to have some kind of "classic" look like the Yankees. The Marlins are not a classic team, they were founded in 1993. They shouldn't pretend to be a team that has been around for nearly a century. They should have their own identity, and this certainly helps with that.
