I'm assuming that the stitched logo is what they'll use in actual games, and that helmet is just a retail model.

It's really just another reason to bitch about a new logo, that many people refuse to admit might be better than the old, sketched-out-on-a-napkin one.

You mean the new, sketched-out-on-a-soiled-napkin version. Seriously, it's crap.

As was the old one.

The old one is the Yankees NY compared to this new garbage.

You and I will have to agree to disagree on that point.

The old one was terribly unbalanced. Very bad design. Although I personally am not wild about the style of this one, the design is far superior.

watching a replay of a Marlins game on FSN Florida right now... the F is nice, no doubt. the Marlin stunk. even the Marlin on its own jumping through the circle in the primary stunk.
the new logo's a beaut

Like I've said, my only beef with the logo is that it should have the full red/orange/yellow/blue/green color scheme of the ballpark and the ballpark logo. While yes, this balance does give you the problem of no readily discernible primary colors other than black, white, and silver, it would've been pretty striking and unique, which is what the idea seemed to be all along. And that's fine and good. Every team can't be the Yankees, and we need off-the-wall teams to make the traditional teams more special, and vice versa.

Simply by virtue of eliminating the slack-jawed fish, the so-unbalanced-it-practically-topples F logo, the washed-out color scheme, and properly identifying as a Miami team rather than the team of an entire large, heterogeneous, and simultaneously represented state, it's an upgrade. Not a perfect one, but an upgrade all the same.

That's a pretty big assumption, looking at other retail batting helmets.

The retail model of the Cubs batting helmet uses the stitched logo.

I guess so. I find the new one to be a horrible concept and terrible execution all around.

Goth has pretty much summed up my feelings on the matter, although in a much more pleasantly verbose style. He is the Greg Proops to my Doug Stanhope.

Much like the city of Miami! (as far as I can remember. Haven't been there in 20 years)

That's about the size of it.

If I'm Lee's Greg Proops, you're my Neil Morrissey. ;)

I've liked this thing ever since I saw the conceptual animation. Not everything in sports needs to be mean and intimidating and Under Armour-ized. There should always be a place for artistic expression in a stadium.

I completely agree. I really don't understand why so many people think every baseball franchise needs to have some kind of "classic" look like the Yankees. The Marlins are not a classic team, they were founded in 1993. They shouldn't pretend to be a team that has been around for nearly a century. They should have their own identity, and this certainly helps with that.
