Shouldn't teams be looking at this year, not back on last year?Teams look back on past championships all the time. If the Twins can commemorate winning the pennant but losing the World Series 40 years ago (the patch year, not 40 years ago from today), the Giants can commemorate winning it last year. Then when they lose five of six to Arizona and Houston in the middle of July or something, they can make a big show out of FOCUSING ON THIS YEAR and discarding their patches after a PLAYERS'-ONLY MEETING and then Brian Wilson will say something and it will be a memorable subplot. ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫ Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Plus when the World Series was created, basically was the only show on the planet. Although it would be cool to see a tournament in the winter between the winners of the worlds big leagues. A player who is on the team now, who wasn't on the team last season, is still playing for the defending world champions, and there's nothing weird about him wearing the patch. Lets say the champions do start playing each other. Sure, the MLB teams will more than likely win for a while, but I would sure hope in the process the quality of Japan baseball would strive to get better, yes?
