Confirmed uni changes by 2k12...

New Jazz alt...

I'm glad to see a green alternate. That said...a different design from the regular would have been a little better. Granted, we can't see the entire uniform, but it appears it's just a simple recolor of the road. Pretty "meh" to me.

Kind of related, but I really hope in the coming years that the Jazz go back to purple as the primary color. This dark navy has yet to really win me over, and I miss the purple days. Looking back, introducing navy to even the 2004 set was a mistake. That set would have been saved if it were purple and powder, and now this one needs the purple to save it too.

And regarding the Kings, that alt actually looks really nice. I'd still prefer that they go directly back to the Richmond-Webber set, though. Do that, and call it a day.

Whats new? The Jazz's entire identity from the logos, to the colors, to the uniforms is pretty "meh". I understand nostalgia, but wow, Utah DID NOT need to return to that old identity. Its like some designer said "what he have now sucks [it did], but I can't come up with anything better. And, hey, throwbacks sell well so lets just do that." SO F-ING LAZY. Ugh.

I respectfully dissagree. Going with the throwback inspired identity was the right move, given how much the fans were asking for it. The throwback stuff sold like hotcakes, and the Jazz are a VERY fan-considerate franchise, so it was only a matter of time before the switch was made.

Now, is that to say it was executed as well as it could have been? Absolutely not. To me, the set has it's flaws (purple, please!!), and things that bug me about it (I'd rather the side panels be only on the shorts and blank on the jersey, to closely mimic the old days). But, I definetely don't speak for Jazz nation here - the identity is actually extremely popular with what I'd guess to be 90% of the fanbase, so I think the move was the right one.

If they really wanted to use throwbacks full-time, they should've just brought these back:

Those are in the top five basketball uniforms of all time as far as I'm concerned. Iconic, distinctive, creative, and perfect for the region. The only thing that would have improved these was a "Utah" script on the road.

I love those jerseys too, but I've grown to question how well the sublimated gradient would've aged through the 2000s and beyond. Maybe after 2004, they should've switched to the template for the black alts, and maybe minimized or simplified the mountain element of the design. Maybe just side panels that terminate in mountains? I dunno.

I love those unis too (they're one of those "childhood definers" for me), and miss the colors. I agree with Admiral though, in that the mountain element would have to be toned down to work today.

I think what they should have done in 2004 was to keep the colors and logo (at least eliminate the gradient on the wordmark, though). Then (I'll try to explain this as best as I can) take the new 2004 set and recolor it from navy and powder, to purple and powder with some added copper trim, replace the arched wordmarks with the logo script, move the front numbers from the middle to the players' left (like in the '97 set) and voila, done. I think that would have looked fantastic, and would have stayed in line perfectly with the mountain identity while still conforming to the times.

I'm not sure about my Kings overall. I have always liked the purple and black look, but the current scripts have became stale. If they can get a new arena, then I think that maybe they should keep the colors, but do a full scale change of everything else.

But that's been done already SO many times by the Kings. This has to be the third or fourth different script set they've used with the current colors. Honestly, the Kings should've never ditched the Webber Era script set. They got it right the first time then insisted on adding that dumb Sacramento Monarchs script. Since then, they've basically played like a WNBA team too.

BTW, those old Jazz jerseys they wore in the Finals are my favorite uniforms ever. I was a HUGE Jazz fan when I was a little kid just because of them.

I'm not overly impressed or disappointed in the Jazz alt...it's what everyone should have expected...the bare minimum. I've also got to agree with several here that the blue has to go, even though I hate the idea of changing colours again, they should have gotten it right the last time and owned the purple...

However, I've always found the shade of purple from the late 90's set to be atrocious. It looks like grape Bubblicious. If/when purple returns, it's got to be the 80's dark purple.

And frankly, I cant think of a good excuse to go back to the mountains...I would consider it akin to going back to short shorts. It's a period costume, leave it in its period where we can all look back and laugh at be nostalgic over it.

I've seen every team with the exception of the Nets and the Suns. New unis'? I'm also disapointed on the Bobcats, Warriors, Knicks & Thunder, I thought they're going to introduce alternates...

Unless the rules have changed, the warriors wouldn't have been eligible for an alternate anyway. They've only been in their current set for a season.

However, if the Jazz end up getting a new alternate this season, then maybe the NBA has relaxed or canceled the two-year wait rule.

I would prefer something like this:

I respectfully disagree. The Jazz need to get rid of the Mountain Logo and just go with the Note Logo full-time and across the board in their identity. The green unis should look great! I can't wait.

Is that royal blue, or just navy in bad lighting?

Regarding Cleveland, I wish they'd just scrap everything and start anew with thier entire identity. I was probably one of the few who disliked the LeBron era set (I saw it as change for the sake of change), and I really don't like the current set at all. Then, while I like the idea behind CavFanatic, it's not something that I think should have been done 7-10 times. It's too many sub-identities shoved into one identity.

I'm in Lights Out's boat, in that I believe the Cavs should've never deviated from the early 2000's set. I don't believe in "OH BUT THEY LOST IN THEM SO THEY'RE BAD". Bottom-line: that was thier sharpest identity in team history, regardless of how the team played in them. A light blue alt would have polished it off. There was no legitimate reason to change it - no, not even LeBron. That set still would have sold as long as his name was on the back.

EDIT: Come to think of it, same goes for the Nuggets in thier early 2000's rebrand.

Wine and Gold are the Cavaliers' roots. I like the late 90's/early 2K sets as well, but they lacked an identity during that era. Their current uniform is classic. Maybe it's too retro looking, but they pull it off. If anything, once they are allowed an official 3rd alternate uni, I want to see a gold jersey added. Other than that, the new uni's are flawlwess....simple, but flawless.

BOTTOM LINE: NEITHER ONE IS RACIST.

I get that the two colors are thier roots, but that light blue, black, and orange were such a better (and much more unique) color scheme. I don't necessarily hate wine and gold, but it's one of the least appealing color schemes, in my humble opinion. The light blue-black-orange was alot cooler and appealing, and once they toned down the 90's set going into the 2000's, they got it as close to perfect as they possibly could have. A crisp, clean set with unique colors is always a win in my book.

It's not the actual retro-ness of the current set that I don't like (I lean traditional, myself), but it's the fact that the retro-ness is kind of uneccesary, in my opinion. They aren't this team that's steeped in this glorious tradition like the Celtics or Lakers - they don't need a retro-inspired uniform. I also don't like it because, even though I disliked the LeBron era set, I still feel it had more going for it than the current, which doesn't bode well. I just feel the Cavs have gradually taken steps backwards since 2003(?) or whenever thier 2000's rebrand occured. They went from a truly unique and appealing identity to a "meh" one, to a "why?" one within an eight year span. And really, it was all pretty unneccesary. Just because LeBron fell into thier lap, doesn't mean they HAD to change. The jerseys and memorabilia would have sold regardless, and the set was so well designed and clean that it could have lasted even into today.

It is kind of embarrassing how many times the Cavs have changed their look and how many alternates/CavFanatic jerseys they have come out with. I mean, if they want to change the uniforms up every once in a while, that is fine. But every 5 years they get new uniforms, and every 10 years they change their colors. Now they are mixing up their different color schemes on the 9 different uniforms they have? Christ on a bike, just stop it already.
