The problem is threepronged: he calls himself Clipper Darrell, thinks of himself as the official team spokesman, and stated it as an affirmative.

It's one thing for Joe Journalist to say that mysterious "sources close to the situation" think the Clippers may or may not be interested in whether or not Dwight Howard would extend with them, couched in totally-speculative language. It's a whole other thing for Official Team Spokesman Clipper Darrell to just come right out and say it on the radio. The Clippers have every right to be upset with him for that (as well as for using their intellectual property on his website to sell merchandise).

Ultimately, I don't see what the big deal is here. He'd still be able to wear his two-tone suit, lead the cheers and go to every home game for free... he just wouldn't get to misappropriate the team's intellectual property anymore. Blowing it up on Twitter is unnecessary, especially after the crap he's pulled the last two seasons.

You can be Clipper Darrell, Ohio State's "Big Nut", Texas Rangers "Zonk", or the Orlando Magic "Fat Guy" but every man who wants to be (or is given) the title of the "unofficial mascot" comes off as douchy.

Agreed...especially on "Zonk." What an attention-whore pain in the ass.

What...no Fireman Eddie? Or does he not count? (Or is he even still around?)

"He is not actually a fan of the Clippers, but a fan of what he can make off of the Clippers. We are no longer interested in that kind of association with him, and that is why we accepted his offer to remove our team name from his stage name."

That makes absolutely no sense. The man was there when they were :censored: ty & he was there when wearing Clippers stuff anywhere got you laughed at. This seriously reeks of "We're actually a draw now, we don't need you anymore, toodles!"

gotta agree TFoA...It's a bad PR move and if they had a problem with it they could have dealt with it sometime over the past 15 years. And that press release, saying that one of your biggest fans is not a fan, wow.

Honestly...you have to wonder a little bit if he is a fan of the team or a fan of attention.

I don't see why it can't be both.

Anyway, the guy has been doing it for so long that it's understandable why he might think he has the team's tacit approval. That the Clippers could've enforced their intellectual property at any point before they had two legitimate superstars on their team is anything but timely, and doomed to be a public relations loss even with an easy legal win.

IMO, the Clippers definitely didn't handle this very well. They didn't have to come out and say everything they did. They could have kept it short without insulting the man.

Mr. Bailey could pull an Ochocinco and just add the name "Clipper" to his first name. The Clippers couldn't do anything about it, except that he definitely has to stop using their merch for profit.

So I read an article by Bill Plashke of all people, and I have been swayed. The Clippers still could've gone about it better (& it still reeks of acting all brand-new), but Clipper Darrell wasn't exactly 100% innocent here.

It's still a crying shame of a situation, but eh. What are you gonna do? (other than turn to the dark side.)

Read that Plaschke article that TFoA mentioned. Apparently, he approached Mark Cuban about providing his services for the Mavericks.

I think his initial intentions were good...then someone said "Man, you might be able to make a lot of money doing this". Same with Dancing Barry with the Lakers. Once money is involved, the "whimsical fan" story starts to diminish.

Lamar Odom to play in D-League

Lamar Odom's return to the Dallas Mavericks will start Saturday in nearby Frisco, where he will play for the team's D-League affiliate.Texas Legends owner and Mavericks president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson confirmed Friday that it was Odom's idea to play with the Legends first. Odom has not appeared in a game since Feb. 20; he left the team to attend to his ill father in Los Angeles on Feb. 22, sources told ESPNDallas.com.

Odom was expected to report back to the Mavericks on the Monday after the All-Star break, but he didn't arrive in Dallas until Wednesday. While the team was in Memphis on Wednesday, Mavs owner Mark Cuban met in Dallas with Odom and his agent, Jeff Schwartz, to work on a timetable that would ease Odom back into the fold after his weeklong personal leave.

Celtics win an OT thriller over the Knicks. Paul Pierce game-tying three with 4.9 seconds remaining in regulation. Rajon Rondo with a 15-15-15 triple double despite missing about 10 shots within 4 feet of the basket.
