What are you watching?

I started watching Breaking Bad last week and am already through all three seasons on Netflix. I'm actually happy I waited to watch this show, despite how many people told me I needed to, because the wait for June 5th for the 4th season to come out on DVD would've been terrible. Great show. Bryan Cranston absolutely nails the part of Walt, And Aaron Paul is just electric.

I'm a big Celebrity Apprentice fan. This season has been really good with some great tension and next week's is definitely going to be off the wall.

I've been catching up with Mad Men. I've finished the first three seasons. I really love it.

I've also been watching some episodes of Star Trek: TNG. It's the only Trek series I actually sit down and "try" to watch. I've seen the first three seasons over the past year or so. I suppose after I've watched all of it I might watch one of the other Trek series, but I haven't thought about which one.

I'm also a huge Celebrity Apprentice fan, and I finally caught up after missing the past few weeks. The Arsenio/Aubrey ordeal was great. Arsenio was definitely over the line, but man, I loved seeing someone totally own Aubrey O'Day on the show. It's been a long-time coming. I'd love to see someone tear down Lisa Lampanelli....or hell, maybe Lou Ferrigno can come back and actually throw her through a wall, as he had threatened.

Even though they're not making new episodes anymore (though there are rumors of a movie later this year), I recently got a co-worker into The IT Crowd and then started re-watching it all agin myself.

Bob's Burgers has just started in Australia, and it's actually a lot better than I expected.

The only thing that lets it down is that it uses comic sans in the credits.

Porn, mostly

In all seriousness though, I used to be a big fan of the office, then stopped watching it for a while, now I watch it a midnight on TBS weeknights. It's episodes I haven't seen, and Michael Scott is still on the show, so they're good

Lots of people are saying Girls is bad because "the characters are so unlikable" or "I can't relate to them." I find these to be pretty hollow complaints for not liking a show; Seinfeld and The Sopranos both featured characters to whom no one of sound mind could possibly relate, and they're among the medium's greatest achievements. They should be saying Girls is bad because a bunch of famous people's kids puttering around with some glorified youtube series on the province of capital-letters Television As Art is galling and sensibility-offending in the worst way.

Can't wait 'till it's out on DVD. I don't have Netflix.

Even though Breaking Bad is not mainstream television like other shows, it can still compete with them for the title of best TV show of the year and even the last 5 years. To me, Breaking Bad is up there with shows like Lost, my favorite TV series of all-time. When BB is done, it might surpass Lost.

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but has anybody watched Betty White's Off the Rockers? It's a prank show where elderly people pull pranks on younger people. Some stuff if really funny, and by the way, it's not nearly as clean and innocent as it may sound.

Breaking Bad certainly vies with Lost as one of the best I've ever seen. I'd like to see how they close out the series before I pass judgment.

My thoughts on BB:

The finale was pretty fantastic. I loved seeing how Gus Fring finally got his in the end, it tied a lot of threads together nicely. The twist of making Walter poison the kid to win over Jesse was excellent, and I'm curious if they'll use that deception to set up a downfall story in the final season.

...and thoughts on Lost:

The show is arguably one of the best in TV history, most notably so for an incredibly diverse and deep cast of characters and masterfully sculpted labyrinth of backstories that ultimately tie them all together. The final couple seasons were very abstract, and really challenged my feelings about what the hell the deal was.

To my understanding, there are two timelines (or universes?) where on the island, Jack dies, passes the leader role to hurley, and the greater remainder of survivors escapes on the plane. Yet in universe two, it's apparently not quite a tangible reality, merely a false stage in which the survivors are all actually dead and merely needed to find one another so they could move on together.

*exhale*

In turn, the island they discover is kind of a junction of good and evil that requires caretakers to eternally balance the two sides via the chosen few who are destined to come every x-hundred years or what-have-you. It's left slightly open to interpretation, but is absent of any faith or religion, it just Is.

I can't put Lost or Breaking Bad above Deadwood on my list of fave shows ever, but they're top 5 easily.
