Kramerica Industries
Even though they aren't very good, the Lightning sure as hell are a resilient hockey team. Big W tonight, and somehow only four points out of the playoffs as of now. Not sure they can finish, but it's been fun to watch.
twi
A win for the Lightning and all of the sudden the 8th spot is only 4 points away. They're really making a run at it.Edit: what he said
Magnus
I'm a little upset at the hiring of Carlyle. Why does a Sudbury boy have to suffer the indignity of coaching the Laughs? What did he do to deserve this trip into the black hole of the hockey universe? Is being from Sudbury not punishment enough?Just got inside from another blizzard. I may be a little emotional. zpqmaowl
Getzlaf scores his first goal in 18 games with about 40 seconds to go to break the tie and give the Ducks a 3-2 lead over the Flames.EDIT: Mark Giordano made a nice save on the empty net attempt by the Ducks, but they held on to win. the worst helmets design to me is the Jacksonville jaguars hamlets from 1995 to 2012 because you can't see the logo vary wall
Still MIGHTY
Ducks get their 15th consecutive win over Calgary in Anaheim. My god, Flames. If you're not going to win on Calgary Stampede Day sponsored by Travel Alberta in Anaheim, then you are never going to win in Anaheim.Getzlaf finally unleashes that slap shot, and lo and behold, he actually scored for the win. Ducks finally jump into 12th, but still 7 points out. Long long long way to go. Another huge game for everybody tomorrow in LA. That'll be a good one.And on that Giordano empty net chase down, he hurled the puck down the ice and beaned Cammellari in the head. The_Admiral
Hockey teams seem to be the most reluctant to scuttle their seasons and build for tomorrow, and it's to the ultimate detriment of the sport. Everyone thinks they're in it because they basically are in it, and so we have about twenty 7 seeds all just hanging around, refusing to make any consequential trades. Stupid people love it because it's "parity" and "anything can happen once you get in," but I'd rather have teams be good and get better over the course of a season that tells me something, not wander through the muck for six meaningless months. wildwing64
Yay, a comic I made last year is still very much relevant today.[/shameless self plug]EDIT: Heed my warning, Leafs fans. Carlyle's coaching style is very defense orientated, you may get to see more wins but at the cost of a stale system that becomes boring to watch. Any superstar calibre players who specialise in scoring may not realise their potential because grind, grind, grind. PotD:Â 24/08/2017

RedSox44
Well, Tuukka Rask was just injured. Providence's two goalies are currently up from the ECHL because the P-Bruins' two goalies are also injured.Looks like Chiarelli's going to be looking at the free agent scrap pile. Who's still available? Turco? And as I wrote this, the New York Islanders just took a 2-1 lead. At the Garden.Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck.
Brass
Wacky play to give the Islanders the lead over the Bruins. No matter what the commentators are saying though about the lack of a call by the officials, it also falls on Lucic and Seguin for standing still and waiting for a whistle as the Islanders never stopped skating and marched their way down the ice to a goal.EDIT: And the game is over. Islanders win 3-2. Frustrating game, to say the least, especially considering the Bruins dominated the game for about 95% of the time. speedy
I told ya we should have traded Rask and picked up an Osgood-type goalie somewhere. Not that you can anticipate injuries, but whatever.EDIT: I'm going to repeatedly bash my head on my desk for mentioning Osgood and saying I wouldn't mind having someone with his skill set. speedy
Trading Rask would be pretty stupidGood argument. Dig a little deeper.Prior to the deadline, Horton and Pevs were out indefinitely. Offense was struggling, team was struggling. Plus, you've got Thomas tied up next year for $3 million. Not a whole lot for a stud goaltender. Rask is a RFA, he'll command between $5-6 million, so in 2012-2013 you've got two number 1 goalies at a cap hit of $8 million+. Is that bad? Not necessarily, especially since the Bruins have most of their core tied up for the long haul. Still, is Thomas going to slow down? No. This guy lives to prove people wrong. People say he can't play in 2013-2014, he'll put up a 2.00 GAA. Guy is a machine. Rask is hit or miss, he looks lost out there some nights and can get it some serious funks - low rate Luongo, if you will. Rask was/is expendable. He's not that great, he's a product of Claude's system. If Chiarelli could've worked out a deal for a top line winger, why not entertain it? You won't see Rask in the playoffs, and if Thomas keeps up his play he'll be stuck at 30 games next year.
