New Houston Astros Uniforms

Wait, so the Astros are going back to the clip art star, and the Cardinals are ditching the navy cap on the road? This could be one of the absolute WORST off seasons for uniform changes I can possibly remember. Both of those are absolutely terrible decisions.

Really? That's my favorite cap in MLB...may even have to go out and buy one.

Disclaimer: If this comment is about an NBA uniform from 2017-2018 or later, do not constitute a lack of acknowledgement of the corporate logo to mean anything other than "the corporate logo is terrible and makes the uniform significantly worse."

The Cardinals' navy cap has always looked out of place with the red lettering on the jerseys. If they're going to go with red lettering all the time, then they should use the red caps all the time. I've always felt that, for the most part, the cap color should match the primary color of the lettering on the uniforms. The Rangers have been especially guilty recently, as I copy and paste from a post I made a few months ago...

As for the Astros, they kept it right when they switched from navy to orange in 1971, matching the cap color with the lettering color. I hope they get it right this time, as well:

Could it be the return of the "'H' block within the star" logo?

The H-star logo is indeed returning, although according to my sources it is slightly modernized.

I just hope they fix the star. It has been a big pet peeve of mine that the "legs" of the star aren't as thick as the "arms" and "head" of the star. It's probably so that the H balances properly, but it's always bugged me. Kind of like how the Dallas Stars star didn't follow the trim of their pre-Edge sweaters.

This is definitely a bit of a relief, I'd prefer an all navy cap but as long as they use a variation of that logo I'm fine. I think a navy cap with only an orange star would be great and kind of be an ode to the colt .45s. So far though I'm happy. Have to wait for further images but they haven't screwed it up yet.

It's probably the Cardinals fan in me, but I like when teams have a road cap that's different from the home cap.

Enjoy 2012 for as long as you can...

I hope the Nats aren't tweaking their home and road uniforms - again.

The Nats are desperate for a tweak. Their look is a complete mess.

Don't count on one anytime soon. The look they have now is the one in which they tallied baseball's best record, so they might just pull a Denver Broncos and keep that look for the foreseeable future.

I like that they are going traditional but there's such a thing as TOO traditional. From what is hinted at it looks as if the Stros may have gone that route. Too bad, I was really looking for an updated version of the classic uniforms.

Fill in the sentence "McCall is going to ______ a ______."

Molest a sea otter?

You know, I was skeptical of the "like" button in place, but I think for this occasion, this post warrants it.

Also, I imagine the Astros are going to go plain and retro. Don't you just love baseball uniforms?

Why you make fun of me? I make concept for Auburn champions and you make fun of me. I cry tears.

If they flame out in the playoffs, their record this year won't matter. It's not like their total is even approaching an historical level.

Quick - without Google, what team had the best record in baseball last year? The year before? 2007?

It's great to be in a position to hold that title, but on its own "best record in baseball" is a meaningless stat.

I just thought about why the Rangers mixing colors bothered me, but the Cardinals never did and came to the conclusion that mixing cap colors and script colors really only works when the darker color is up top. I'm pretty sure I'd like the Rangers if it were blue lids, with a red script, and a blue belt instead of the way it is.

The black belt is terrible. The black drop shadow on the script is terrible as well. Both look so out of place, and that extra layer renders the player names illegible on the backs of the jerseys. I know that this is falling on deaf ears, but the Rangers would look so much better if they just used 2D blue outlined in red. They could even keep the current font for the names on the back, that's how big of an improvement it would be if only they removed the black.

From San Berdoo to Kalamazoo.

No, if I understand what' being said here, the current generic hollow star is leaving, and the classic H over star is returning... in other words, great news.

So in essence, yes, they're going back to the clipart star. Lovely.

I don't know what was wrong with the current Astros uniforms, other than they lost in them, which I guess is reason enough to ditch them (sports logic yay).
