Before the start of the season, each team is allowed to set a threshhold of ticket sales that must be met in order for the blackout to be lifted. The threshhold is any point between 85% and 100% of non-suite/premium/luxury seats. That number can't be changed once it is selected. If a team does not meet this level 72 hours prior to kickoff, the game is blacked out.

HOWEVER, the team also has the option of paying 34 cents on the dollar to buy up enough tickets to reach their threshhold level and avoid a blackout. Why? Because the visiting team receives 34% of the gate. Essentially, the home team (or a local sponsor, such as the local network affiliate) is paying the minimum that the visiting team would receive in ticket revenue for the ability to broadcast the game locally.

So, any talk of 'we've sold out x number of games' needs to be looked at critically, because that may really mean 'our owner has paid to have us on local TV'.

So... why don't all teams set really low threshholds they are sure to meet?

Because the road team gets a significantly greater percentage of any tickets sold above that threshold. 50% instead of the regular 34%.

Not sure what the right phrase is here...maybe the best of a bad look? In any case, even as an outspoken critic of Seattle's unis I have to admit they didn't look that bad on Sunday.

Get some green on those pants and you have a winner.

They could have a consistent pant stripe/pattern with the green, plus i think they should change the sleeve insert on the white and grey jerseys to match the blues....

No because when the Irish came to Ireland and first came in contact with the leprechaun people, they didn't take their land away and force them to move west. Instead, the two groups learned to assimilate peacefully. However, certain tribes of the leprechaun refused to taint the pure blood and moved north into the forests of Ireland, only to be seen rarely, usually at the same time of a rainbows appearance and occasionally at the factories of Lucky Charms.

Can someone explain ESPN's attendance figures to me? According to them, only 4 out of the 16 games this past weekend sold out... if so, how did we all watch them? The Bills game was definitely not blacked out for me, but ESPN says it was not sold out?

The blackout rules are ridiculously antiquated. Given that TV revenue dwarves game day revenue by several orders of magnitude with the current tv contract, fans in the seats have become glorified extras on a movie set. Sure watching a game on tv with nobody in the stands cheapens the product but it surely does not hurt the bottom line. Given the new economic reality, the smaller modern pro stadiums have it right with a capacity of about 65k you basically guarantee sellouts and keep your stadium fill with die hard season ticket holders and the corporate crowd who will gladly burn their cash on the club level and suites.

So as it stands JAX is in a really tough spot. Stadium is too big to not have to worry about blackouts but the tv market is too small to generate much of a tv based fan base to generate local ad revenue. LA is the exact opposite as you have a huge tv market that supports the NFL without having a team so the league really can't extract much more revenue from the market.

The more I think of it Jaguares de La Ciudad Mexico might make the most sense as the UK time zone issue would not come into play. I also think Khan's moustache would be well received in a nation that holds them in such high regard.

I honestly don't care if they made the field pink for a season, as long as they win on the field, I'm happy with it, though I would like to see that endzone with a navy background and maybe a red outline on the script

As a Seahawks fan I am partial to the new look and from time to find a new favorite combo and agree the navy jersey with grey pants is great in my book. I love the updates you've posted, I think my biggest problem with the current set is the lack of green on the white and grey jerseys, other than the outline to the numbers. Making the shoulder triangle green makes this look much more cohesive and the pants stripes are awesome. I'd love to see the white jersey and pants too. Job well done.

For me, blue on blue at home and white on blue on the road in the best look for Seattle. Especially since the blue pants have green on them.

I hope Seattle's home monochrome is accepted on here eventually. They pull it off perfectly.

Yeah, right after this happens...

I'm not sure how it is that the Seahawks pull off monochrome "perfectly"... I guess it's kind of like pulling off taking a big dump perfectly.

It looks weird when some teams do it (Rams) and it looks terrible when some teams do it (Eagles), but Seattle just pulls it off.

It carries a mindset of speed and freshness. It's also sort of like a trademark for Seahawks home games, like how Dallas always wears white.

The Eagles looked terrible in all green? Don't think so.

They've never worn the all green with the current uniform set. They wore them with their old set and white shoes, which did look goofy.

The Eagles would (and will) look great in all green.

The Rams don't look quite right because the stripes on the navy pants don't go with anything and they are pretty ugly. Their best look was clearly the gold pants with the blue jersey but for some odd reason, they decided they didn't want to look as good as they could.

Teams with the same colored helmet as the monochrome tend to look better. Just tends to blend better with the entire uniform.
