2013 NFL uniform/logo changes

the Vikes have a lot of success in history, not to mention they play in arguably the single most "traditional" division in the entire league. The clownsuits just don't become them, quite frankly.

Couldn't agree more. The Lions are pushing it enough, but the Vikings are over the line.

You're a proud franchise. Dress like it.

How are the Lions pushing it? All they have to do is change to block numbers, and they will have the perfect set.

And widen the helmet stripes...

And shrink the sleeve stripes...

And drop the black...

I personally think the Vikings are just a few minor tweaks away from perfection. Wear the purple pants on the road and fix the collar and they'll look great. It's good to have them a bit more modern looking in that division because its a good contrast to the other three traditional sleeve stripe teams in the league. Plus, I've always felt that the Vikings colors always looked a little but wonky in a traditional uniform package. It's such a unique color scheme in the NFL, and IMO the template should reflect that, rather than just trying to go traditional.

I'm actually kind of the other way on that—but then I guess it also depends on the situation. Purple is a unique enough color (in the NFL anyways) that it alone will attract attention—it just seems too much to pull attention away from that with all the wonky piping. The other good example is the Dolphins...another unique set of colors, but set into a more scaled-down design. (By comarison, anyway.)

All that said, I do agree that a few tweaks could lead to something substantial. But first and foremost, they gotta lose the side panels. Those got to go. I like the idea of the horn-esque shoulder loop, though. It works for them the way the wrap-around horn did for the Rams in pre-2000. And then they really need to revisit that pants stripe thing. Seriously.

(I'm actually ok with the LANOB thing...but not the yellow collar on the home jersey, especially with the flywire collar.)

While the Vikes' current template stinks, I'd much rather they hold onto it long enough for the gray facemask trend to go away and then make their uniforms a bit more traditional. I don't want to see them come back with gray facemasks because it's "cool" and I certainly agree with Buc that they are the "purple team" and there is no reason to water that down with a trendy color (facemasks and/or beyond).

However, the popularity of the throwbacks they've been wearing at home vs. Green Bay for the last few years reminds me of the popularity of the red Wild "circle logo" alt, which as we know led to making it the primary. So I predict they are going to go back to the 70s and do two things I've been dreading: gray facemasks and removing the yellow outlines from the numbers. What I'd rather see is purple masks, yellow outlines on the numbers, but on an otherwise more traditional template (maybe Colts stripes on both jerseys or something). And, to put myself into the minority, purple pants with the white jerseys.

Disclaimer: If this comment is about an NBA uniform from 2017-2018 or later, do not constitute a lack of acknowledgement of the corporate logo to mean anything other than "the corporate logo is terrible and makes the uniform significantly worse."

I like this look(white mask). I also think purple pants on the road. Yellow outline around the #s would make it pop more too. I wish the Packers would put yellow outline around their numbers.

That's my favorite Vikings uniform... although I wouldn't mind if they tweaked the numbers a bit so they're not wearing LSUs jerseys. The Packers have enough yellow on their uniforms as it is though.

The Vikings 1980-1984 white facemask. That's a good find.

I'm not a huge fan of the supposedly leaked logo, but I love the possibility of a dolphin logo without the stupid silly helmet. It never made sense and it just needs to go. Someone made the comment that "the only way you can represent a dolphin is with a cartoony logo" or something to that effect. Please, its the only way that you have ever seen it; you've never been given other options. I was still hoping that they would break from the past and push the envelope a little though.

Push the envelope? The Dolphins have been around for a long time, and they deserve the traditional treatment the same way the Bears do.

No.

The Dolphins don't get the same treatment as the Bears.

They get the same treatment you would give the Vikings, Bengals, or Saints.

My thoughts exactly.

I know this road look is still pretty popular amoung Viking fans, but I'm not one of them. Honestly, I thought it was a little tired by the time the team dumped it, and with the unholy way UCLA stripes are treated on current uniform templates, I don't think I'd be happy looking at it every week. The Colts' cut-off nightmares make me cringe, and I don't even care about that team.

For me, my first choice would be an update of 60's set. Northwestern stripes both home and road, trim on the numbers, purple road pants, and the painted purple helmet (before there was a molded purple available) even matched the jerseys. It was a glorious set.

(I do love me some Tommy Kramer, tho)

yeah, they don't have to have the wrap around. you could do the n'western stripes or the Viking head. I like Purple pants for the white jersey.

I don't understand how anyone with a sense of design can say that the left 3 are the best logos in Dolphins history.

Easy...because the two on the right evoke ZERO feelings or emotions. It's just...there.

"Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be eaten. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve. It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle. When the sun comes up, you'd better be running." - Unknown | 🌐 Check out my articles on jerseys at Bacon Sports 🔗

Feelings? Emotions? I can't even make out any of that with the first three.

Slightly OT: I think this interesting (ignore the subliminal advertising):

All I'm going to say is celebrate the past, but move towards the future.
