LOGOLYMPIAD - Event 6

pollux

Recommended Posts

This is the same event as last year, but with different dates. Design a patch commemorating an event (sporting or non-sporting) that really happened in 2002, 1992, 1987, 1962, 1937 or 1912 (10, 20, 25, 50, 75, or 100 years ago).

  • Include the years in the design.
  • You may use and incorporate existing images or logos, but the overall design must be your own.

DEADLINE: Monday, October 15th, 11:59 AM Eastern Time

Reminder

Failure to follow the guidelines could result in your entry being inadvertently (or intentionally) excluded from judging.

Entries must be emailed to logolympiad (@) gmail (dot) com prior to the set deadline. Subject line should be the event number (Ex: Event 1). Once you submit your entry, it is considered final.

Entries must be submitted as .jpg, .gif or .png formats. The file name format of the submission is: event#_yourusername.extension (Ex: event1_pollux.png). The file must be attached to your email.

All final entries must be 800x600 pixels with at least 70 pixels of white space at the bottom of the image. This means that your presentation has to fit in a 800x530 pixels window (800 pixels wide by 530 pixels high). I will NOT re-size entries that are not properly done, so make sure it's right.

The background of the entries should be solid white, unless otherwise specified. You must not use gradients, shadows, patterns, lines, etc. on your background.

Do not include your name or any other personal identifiers on your submission. Also, do not watermark your work. I will add a watermark to each entry before they get posted for judging. I will also provide each entry with a number. You are expected to keep the identity of your entry anonymous until the end of the event. If you think you know the identity of another designer, keep it to yourself. Anyone who exposes the identity of themselves or anyone else will be DQ'd.

I will NOT contact you if your entry is wrong, therefore make sure that you comply to these guidelines before submitting your entry.

What do you mean by include the years in the design. Do you mean that you want the design to display the anniversary mark and the years in establishment.(ex: Company X 100th 1912-2012)

The anniversary mark is optional, but the years in establishment have to be there. For example, you could mention Event Something, 1987-2012, without the anniversary mark.

However, I have rarely seen an anniversary patch that did not mention the anniversary itself, so it's easier for the viewer to know what anniversary is celebrated.

To answer this question I received via PM:

I have a question in regard this event. Is it possible to include a short explanation as to what the logo is commemorating? I ask this as it more than likely my logo will use a language other than English.

If you are commemorating something in a language other than English, simply put the equivalent in English, away from the logo itself so it doesn't seem part of the logo. Simply translate the anniversary from the original language to English. No lengthy explanation will be allowed.

For example, if you're doing a logo in French: "5e anniversaire de quelque chose", only translate it to "5th anniversary of something". Don't start a paragraph long like "This logo is to celebrate the fifth anniversary of something because it's really important and blablabla".

Good: "5th anniversary of something"

Bad: "This logo is to celebrate the fifth anniversary of something because it's really important and blablabla"

Can we create our own rendition of an existing anniversary patch? Does the patch have to ONLY have the company/team colors?

I'm not sure I understand your first question. Do you mean you want to recreate a patch for an existing anniversary, or just change a bit the current anniversary patch?

For the second question, there are no rules regarding the colors, so you can choose whatever you want, even if it's not related to the company/team.

For the first question I guess I mean to recreate an existing patch and make it all your own.

Then it would be OK.

I received an entry on a template smaller than the 800px x 600px. This is fine since I don't need to resize it. Therefore, the participant does not need to resubmit, and will not be disqualified.
