The Interception Will Be Televised

The behind the scenes drama of how Fox replaced CBS as the home of the NFC, the defection of the New World stations to the network and Fox Sports' early days.

Generally, I don't get too interested in NFL TV business, but this could be interesting. I was fairly young at the time and don't have a strong sense of what this did for the Fox network (compared to the Simpsons, etc.). I remember reading letters to the editor from rural Minnesota complaining because they did not even get Fox and would not be able to watch the Vikings most of the time. I am sure that this probably only remained a problem for one season. Hell they could role this into a "Not on your TV" and talk about other sports on networks that a lot of people did not have. For example, the Big Ten network was in a small portion of homes for the first year. My father's last winter before dying he did not get to watch many Minnesota basketball games because he (a Twin Cities resident) could not get BTN. They let a lot of fans be without for a year so they could sell their network to cable companies (Ironically, in little Winona, MN, I had BTN).

The North Stars, in their 1991 playoff run put their games on pay-per-view. There are probably other examples (particularly pre-internet) of fans having to pay money or jump through hoops to see their teams play...or even not be able to.

Disclaimer: If this comment is about an NBA uniform from 2017-2018 or later, do not constitute a lack of acknowledgement of the corporate logo to mean anything other than "the corporate logo is terrible and makes the uniform significantly worse."

Pay per view for NHL playoff games? Wow. I remember having to have Prism (which was a poor man's HBO) to watch the Flyers. They, along with the Phillies and Sixers, were on that channel from the late 70s to the mid 90s. Anyone who is from the Philadelphia area on here and is old enough to remember prism will remember the funny kind of program scheduling. Soft core porn wold follow the Flyers games late at night. That was hilarious. But I couldn't imagine paying for each playoff game.

I was talking to a friend how Jameis Winston set himself up to have a 30 for 30 about him. Goes undefeated through 2 seasons despite allegations of rape, being suspended for a half, and losing his last college game in embarrassing fashion. It'll be how his pro career plays out, but I feel like he falls in line with Bo Jackson, and Brian Bosworth
