To be fair, this was probably around the same time Justin Pogge was supposed to be the Toronto goaltending savior.

  • 3 weeks later...

So...the Phoenix megathread lives again in light of the day's events:

http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/showthread.php?t=1908197

Highlights: Willful ignorance that the Arizona law in question doesn't require an ethical breech (because it fundamentally looks like a revolving door statute)

Continued harping on how Glendale's going to be stuck with a white elephant arena that costs them money while ignoring that it actually costs them less money for the arena to be empty and the Coyotes were totally moving once the out clause kicked in in 3 years anyway!

And of course, a play by play of the council meeting!

Can I get a source on those two? I've got an annoying Coyotes fan friend on Facebook who I'd like to shut down.

Mighty Ducks of Anaheim (CHL - 2018 Orr Cup Champions) Chicago Rivermen (UBA/WBL - 2014, 2015, 2017 Intercontinental Cup Champions)

King's Own Hexham FC (BIP - 2022 Saint's Cup Champions) Portland Explorers (EFL - Elite Bowl XIX Champions) Real San Diego (UPL) Red Bull Seattle (ULL - 2018, 2019, 2020 Gait Cup Champions) Vancouver Huskies (CL)

We don't have any formal sources on the Coyotes moving once the out kicked in, but even with the incredibly one-sided in favor of the Coyotes arena deal, the team's still lost more than $50 million in the last two years, so yeah, the team was going to move.

Per everyone's favorite San Jose Sharks fan/Sun Belt cheerleader/Bettman Apologist. Discussing the laughable Arizona WJC bid.

It is not out of the realm of possibilities.

It is "different" from what has been done in the past. But could provide a "warm weather" neutral venue that they've never had in the past.

"Never say never."

SAP Center has hosted NCAA Frozen Four regionals, without one hockey Div-1 school in the state.

San Jose has NEVER hosted an NCAA Division I regional OR Frozen Four. Mostly because even the NCAA realizes that sticking a regional thousands of miles away from any potential fans is really, really stupid.

I think we've reached peak HFBoards

Okay, maybe suggesting a robot to determine the Oilers are better off in Las Vegas or something like that would be the peak HFBoards moment, but I think this is close.

EDIT: OH GOD THEY ALL ARE IN AGREEMENT THAT THIS IS A GOOD IDEA. Yep, peak HFBoards

Probably the most realistic implementation at this point would be some sort of quadrotor that hovers above the faceoff dot and drops the puck, but that raises a different set of safety concerns.

NHL faceoffs to be controlled by those Israeli immigrants who run RC-helicopter kiosks at the mall and won't leave you the f-ck alone.

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

I've always been an advocate for a lacrosse-style face-off in hockey.

Why does the referee/linesman have to drop it? Place it on the center of the dot, line-up, blow the whistle, and go.

Because watching the officials arm and timing when he drops it is part of the art of winning a faceoff. I should know - I went 16 for 32 during my high school hockey career :D:P

It's non-problem. They're pretty good about where they drop it and most officials use their right hand so even if there's a slight bias to that side 50% of the time that's the side where you'll be taking the face-off and it all balances out.

I'm not too concerned about where the puck lands. For me, it's more the refs than hold on to it too long and get guys to jump off and switch out.

Ehh.. after the past couple of years of college lacrosse having major issues with faceoff procedure, no thanks

Would love to see the elimination of the 4th line to compensate for expansion. Dress 1 spare skater. Active roster of 21 players.

2 guys gone per current team = 2 new teams

More money for everyone currently in the league. More revenue, same amount of players to pay.

It's like you stupid gits enjoy losing whole seasons to labor unrest. The NHLPA's response to this would be a resounding LOL NO.
