They believe that Mets fans for example would rather buy an orange jersey that looks nothing like the teams regular bp than a blue one which looks very similar. For example I believe that if the pirates hosted again the NL bp jerseys would be black because there bp jerseys are yellow whereas when they last hosted the pirates had a black BP so the NL ASG bp jersey was yellow. It just so happens that most teams BP jerseys are their darker color. It's all about merchandise sells. The Giants ended up using an orange jersey a few years later, the Yankees don't have much of a choice, anything but red for the Cardinals would just be wrong, and the Angels push red pretty hard too.
