NFL '13 SEASON THREAD

I'm sorry that a sporting event between two teams in California ended at a late time for people who live 2,500 miles from California. I'm sure it was tough for you to endure, being in California. Next time there's a conflict with a postseason baseball game, they should just cancel the rest of the playoffs.

Yeah but then that would just be seen as a conspiracy against the Dodgers.

And so at 2:45am EST, the Raiders-Chargers game ends with a Rivers interception in the Oakland end zone.

Lest we never, ever endure such a scheduling screwup ever again.

Either the Chargers, the Raiders, or both of them against each other do this every year as the second game of the Week 1 Monday Night doubleheader. It's really not a big deal.

As far as this particular scheduling conflict, Oakland is the only place in the league where this particular incident can happen. There are shared parking lots in Kansas City, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Dallas, Seattle and Baltimore (as seen in Week 1, which was probably more egregious, and could have and should have been avoided, but Peter Angelos) where you can play with the start times to avoic an NFL/MLB playoff conflict (and they have. I think in Dallas most recently IIRC). And in Oakland, it's not as simple of a conversion as it was in other stadiums (having to use forklifts and stuff). It's not like this is a recurring problem, also.

You'll be over it by tomorrow. Hell, I'm over it now. I was over it before the game even started.

I didn't watch the game and couldn't as I don't get NFL Network, but I loved the fact that there was a game going on until late. It's not like it was some sort of can't-miss game after all. All the complaining is a little ridiculous. Would you have rather have seen that game in the afternoon?

With regards to sporting events between Europe and North America, there can be little doubt that North Americans have it much easier.

Their 7:00 PM local start times are early afternoon for us. Our 7:00 PM local starts are midnight and beyond for them. It might be fun to think about, but it would be impossible to balance NA sports and a normal life living in Europe.

Not that this would stop me from living in Europe if I really wanted to, of course. There are more important things than sports.

The Bills are promoting Thad Lewis directly from the practice squad to starting QB this week against the Bengals. THAT is how you tank a season. Your move, Cleveland.

You know what, they probably should have kept Lovie. Say what you will about the guy, and I certainly have, but his defenses were always good.

I know this is part of your normal Statler and Waldorf routine, but c'mon. I think the defense playing poorly this year has more to do with Urlacher retiring (as despite public perception, he was still good last year), Melton missing time and then getting knocked out for the year, Tillman being constantly injured, and Briggs and Peppers suddenly getting really old. Besides, as maddening as the defense was today, they held a great Saints offense to 26 points. The Saints moved the ball at will, but didn't score all that much. That's pretty much what the Cover 2 has always done. And no, Lovie didn't always have good defenses. Look at 2007-2009.

I wasn't all that pleased with the playcalling in this game, but Cutler played really well. The fumble only happened because he got hit on the blindside during a bootleg. While the offense is improving, and the playcalling needs to improve, what you see on defense is the result of Jerry Angelo having an entire team of a handful of really good players surrounded by crap. The offense has plenty of talent two years after being barren. The defense needs an overhaul now. But then again, you dislike Emery because he uses buzz words with the press and you're jaded from years of seeing crap trotted out from the Cubs' front office. McClellan is not looking like all that great of a pick at this time, but Emery has brought in talent on offense and brought in someone who tries to run a 21st century offense. And to your previous assessment that Emery only hired Trestman to show he was smarter than everyone, Trestman nearly got the Colts job last year. The hiring wasn't completely out of the blue. If Lovie were still coaching this team, they would have given up just as many points and we'd be witnessing the complete erosion of a team. Right now, we are seeing a team in transition. You should only really be upset if you thought the Bears were a 13-3 this year.

Did you see their other Quarterback Jeff Teuel, he is beyond suck and in college he was like 4-26 as starter so there is that.

Still nobody wants to give Tebow a chance what a joke.

Matt Flynn got cut.

Seahawks and Raiders sure paid a lot for one start.

Cleveland, Buffalo, Green Bay, Tampa Bay, Jacksonville. Any of them I can see Flynn going to.

Matt Flynn is the next Kevin Kolb. The backup that everyone thinks is going to be a star...yet he never will. Having said that I can say that he's better than Hoyer or Weeden. But Browns management is going to draft a QB in 2014.
