Play-In Game Play-In Game

Rays over Rangers

AL Play-In Game

Rays over Indians

NL Play-In Game

Reds over Pirates (I really don't believe this, but I'm not going to pick against my guys in a one game playoff. It's a cointoss. I'm choosing heads)

ALDS

Red Sox over Rays (3-0)

A's over Tigers (3-2)

NLDS

Cardinals over Reds (3-2 Cardinals win game 5 on a horrible play at the plate call or a 15-1 blowout, every one of their runs in the entire series comes with two outs)

Dodgers over Braves (3-2)

ALCS

Red Sox over A's (4-2)

Cardinals over Dodgers (4-0 Puig forgets how to hit and goes 0 for the series. Cardinals win every game by 1 run)

World Series

Everybody not in Boston or St. Louis pukes

Oh fine, fine.

Game 163: Rangers over Rays - TB has the pitching advantage tonight, but there's something to be said about the Rangers winning seven straight, all at home, and they get to remain home while the Rays have to travel in from Toronto for a game the next day. There's also a stat floating out there that Joe Maddon's Rays are something like 1-7 in these kinds of games - one-game makeups/tiebreakers/whatever. The most recent one came on 8/26 vs. KC - Rays lost 11-1.

AL Wild Card: Indians over Rangers - Cleveland went 5-1 vs. Texas this year, including a sweep at home in late July. 10 straight wins, for once a buzz in the home crowd, although Daniel Salazar, a rookie fireballer, gets the nod in that one, which makes for a very interesting situation. Wouldn't be shocking at all if Salazar gets rattled on the big stage; wouldn't be shocking either if he dominates. Matt Moore had only made one career start in MLB when he shutdown the Rangers in Game 1 of the 2011 ALDS, so anything could happen there. Matt Garza would be tabbed from Texas.

ALDS for all scenarios:

(1) Boston over (4) Cleveland (3-1) - even with the extended layoff, it's really hard to see the Red Sox not being ready for this series. Boston whacked Cleveland to the tune of a 6-1 record this season, including a sweep in Cleveland. This might be the most complete team in baseball, and Clay Buchholz has returned to the rotation as well. Tough sledding for the Tribe, but good luck to them.

(5) Texas over (1) Boston (3-1) - but on the other hand, this is the nightmare matchup for the Red Sox, and they should be rooting for a Rays victory tonight and an Indians victory on Wednesday. Whereas they went 12-7 vs. Tampa Bay and 6-1 vs. Cleveland, they went 2-4 against the Rangers, and in fact have not taken a season series from Texas since 2008. Five straight seasons where Texas has prevailed over Boston overall. Interestingly, I picked the Rangers and Red Sox to be in the AL Wild Card game in my pre-season predictions...

in 2012.

But with a full head of steam and a general knack for beating Boston silly over the years, I would give the nod to Texas to pull this upset.

(1) Boston over (5) Tampa Bay (3-0) - no, can't see this one at all. Boston solved their Tampa Bay woes this year, going 12-7 with a 6-4 home mark and 6-3 road mark. Not to mention, for the Rays to get to this series, they would have had to play games in Toronto, Texas, and Cleveland all within the same calendar week of playing Friday night in Boston. That is going to be a worn down mess, should it come to pass.

--------------------------------------------

You know what, to hell with that. I'm wasting material that I can use on the next Mike & Greg Talk Baseball podcast ( ;)). Straight picks.

AL Game 163: Texas over Tampa Bay

AL Wild Card: Cleveland over Texas

ALDS: (1) Boston over (4) Cleveland (3-1)

ALDS: (3) Detroit over (2) Oakland (3-1)

ALCS: (3) Detroit over (1) Boston (4-1)

NLDS: (1) St. Louis over (5) Cincinnati (3-1)

NLDS: (3) Los Angeles over (2) Atlanta (3-2)

NLCS: (3) Los Angeles over (1) St. Louis (4-2) -- classic matchup

World Series: (3) Detroit over (3) Los Angeles (4-3)
