St. Patricks Day celebrates Irish heritage, that photoshop celebrates nothing and depicts a ridiculous racial stereotype. This is the Notre Dame Fighting Irish argument all over again.

So say they wear it on Asian Heritage Night, then what? It's the exact same thing.

Not every irishman has red hair and a neck beard, and I've never seen one wearing a green top hat. But it's okay to portray them that way. But do anything related to indians, that's offensive. I'm sorry, it's still a double standard.

So....can someone explain to me how this is cool, but Wahoo is totally racist?

No because when the Irish came to Ireland and first came in contact with the leprechaun people, they didn't take their land away and force them to move west. Instead, the two groups learned to assimilate peacefully. However, certain tribes of the leprechaun refused to taint the pure blood and moved north into the forests of Ireland, only to be seen rarely, usually at the same time of a rainbows appearance and occasionally at the factories of Lucky Charms.

In all seriousness :censored: really? That logo depicts a mythological creature, not a caricature of an entire race. Should bunnies also be offended if they decide to throw ears on Mr. Met during Easter?

Welp, it looks like New Era done f***ed up their order of the Australia Series caps to Hat Club by putting the patch on the wrong side.

I'm not sure if I should be annoyed because the D Backs cap I got is incorrect, or happy because this is a somewhat rare find.

No. It's not.

Because that's not an Irishman, it's a leprechaun.

The Asian one is racist, the leprechaun one is not. Because leprechauns aren't people.

Sigh.

Race. Race. Race. All the time.

If I say that I like the St. Paddy's Day Mr Met logo along with the Chief Wahoo logo and the Redskins logo/name then what do any of you have to say about that? Is it wrong?

(For the record, I find this part of the thread rather funny and lighthearted especially compared to the many previous discussions of race and sports teams and logos)

Oh I like all three as well. I love Wahoo, hope he sticks around for a long time. I just don't understand why the critics have a double standard.

If you feel that there's a double standard, then you're simply not capable of understanding the argument at hand.

It's one thing to disagree, it's another to not understand what you're disagreeing about.

The only difference between the three is that, Irish people don't cry over spilled milk like Asian and Native Americans do. Thus, stuff like this escalates. Should Irish people be offended by that? heck no.

Please refer to this post above yours.

I'm not sure I understand. My point still stands - any comparison between wahoo and a leprechaun is invalid.

I was using your post to answer Soarindude's post and the "post right above yours" was referring to him posting right after you. Any comparison of a leprechaun to chief wahoo is pure ignorance. Like you pointed out, anyone that thinks it's a valid argument obviously doesn't understand what they're arguing about.

I think a lot of people are taking a semantic argument which in my opinion, is just plain silly. Yeah, a leprechaun is a mythical creature, not an actual Irish person. You guys are basically stating that just because it's a leprechaun doesn't mean it's an Irish person, per say. However, Irish people around the world still continue to be portrayed as Leprechauns (Red Hair, beards, alcoholics, etc). Like it or not, Irish people are given a "Leprechaun stereotype" just as much as Chinese people are given the cross-eyed pointed hat look or the red-skinned Indian look.

Sure, Leprechaun doesn't hold as much of a connection to an actual Irish person compared to completely portraying an Indian person or an Asian person, however, it still falls in the same boat as the stereotype is still used on a regular basis. Irish people have had a terrible history in America, similarly to how bad Asian and Native Americans have had. It's actually a very interesting history that many people don't realize happened not to long ago. (persecution based on being a primarily Catholic ethnicity, forcing them to clean out swamps, etc).

Like I said before, the difference is that you don't really hear Irish people having a fit over the way Leprechauns are portrayed. Whether you believe the "fit" said ethnicity/race is throwing is legitimate or not, it's true.

Of course they don't complain because they are too busy getting in drunken brawls to give a damn. If there's one true thing about the Irish is that they don't care about anything. There's a reason why they came over here by the boatload and it's because they're literally the red-headed step children and the laughing stock of the British Isles. Even the Welsh mock them which is saying something.

Disagree all you want but it's true.
