If the Dodgers are the disease in pro sports, the Cards and their fans are the cure. St. Louis is a city that lifts its team every October, and together they hit greater heights than anyone thought possible. "This is why I signed back here," Adam "Ace" Wainwright explained last week. "There's no amount of money worth what this city and this team means to me. I'm honored, I'm privileged, I don't deserve any of this."

Oh god.

If I had a penny for every Yasiel Puig hate piece that has come out since Game 3, I'd be rich by now.

Re: Wacha/Pacman - eh, maybe it hasn't caught on, but I was NEVER a Sesame Street person, while I was (and, to a degree, still am) a Pacman addict so, for me, I associate Wacha with Pacman. Different strokes, you know...

Looks like the work of Jean-Paul Satire.

Yeah, I'm the BIGGEST Dodger hater on these boards and even I think that article is pretty ridiculous. Puig is a total douchebag and if he strangled in one of his awful Hugo Boss shirts sometime soon I'd probably be pretty happy. But even so, let this play out on the field. There's no need to yap about how it offends the baseball Gods or whatever the hell that crazy author was trying to call it. I'm completely convinced that the Dodgers are going to ultimately lose this series on a huge Puig-induced mistake. For as good as he is, it really can't be argued that he's playing with fire a bit, and the playoffs are absolutely the wrong time to do that. And especially against a team that has a history of capitalizing on the other teams mistakes.

I'm calling a huge Puig error, and throw in a horrible night at the plate for Gonzalez and a big homer or two given up by Brian Wilson, and I'll be a happy camper.

Sometimes it helps to read the entire piece. First line on the page...

Again, it was satire.

I'll say this as someone who's feelings are on the opposite end of the spectrum from yours, so keep that in mind.

When it comes to people/fans/the media gushing about how great the Cardinals are, sometimes it's harder to tell if it's a joke or if they're saying it with a completely straight face.

A few quick thoughts that aren't about the actual games.

• That Grantland article is clear sarcasm and thus more ripping the Cardinals.

• The Deadspin article showing the celebrations of the Cardinals is a bit weak for a few reasons.

1. There's a difference between fist pumps, claps, and screams, and the shenanigans of what Puig did. Whether you think any of it is bad is for you to decide, but it's awfully silly to act like those are the same things.

2. The Cardinals quotes were taken so out of context. Beltran complemented Puig as a player and said he'll mature but also said he doesn't particularly care for his celebrations. Wainwright wasn't complaining about any of Gonzalez's celebrations, he was upset that Gonzalez was chirping at him from the bases. But perhaps most importantly, the media asked those questions. It's not like the Cardinals made it a point to tell everyone else how to play the game. They were asked how they felt about what the Dodgers did and a couple of them answered. The overreaction to their response was crazy.

• Deadspin wrote yet another article kind of sorta targeting the Cardinals today, except it's really bizarre. It's like a sarcastic game recap from the point of view that the Cardinals are a lock to advance but haven't yet done so. It's really weird. There's seemingly no point to it. It's not the sort of article Deadspin usually writes. It's either a writer (this time not Margary) who really hates the Cardinals or it's Deadspin realizing they can keep getting hits by trolling St. Louis. Anyways, it's bizarre.

The Cardinals hate is all getting a little bit out of control. But I'm sure it will continue.

Earlier this season Puig hit a walkoff home run in extra innings off Curtis Partch and the Reds lost. He watched the ball for several seconds before beginning his slow trot around the bases and then slid into home plate where his jersey was ripped off.

I had no problem with it. My aggravation was entirely directed at the walk-off home run.

In regards to the Cardinals hate that's happening right now, is it over the top? That's impossible to quantify, but you don't get to be this consistently good without hearing some :censored:. I'd gladly change places with you guys.

It is pretty ridiculous.

The backlash was a long time coming, I feel. It's always been bubbling under the surface next to the general distaste for Scrappy White Infielder Love, but the post-Pujols Cardinals have reached critical mass on everything that's been annoying about the whole Cardinals thing. Everyone got sick of Boston's crap too. Take your lumps and enjoy your wins.

It's for either his foundation or some foundation he supports. He's been wearing bow ties on Fox for a number of years now

EDIT - Bow ties for charity. And, based on the article, it has its origins in the 2010 World Series. No wonder I don't remember when it started.

I think there is also a connection to former San Francisco Giants Managing Partner Bill Neukom.

Oh I'll take the hatred because I know it's mostly just a reaction to their winning. It's just silly, like that last Deadspin article I referenced. I don't know what makes a semi-legit journalism outlet publish something like that. There's not even a real hook to it.

It just happened so suddenly and strongly.

Like, I'm pretty sure this Dodger team would be pretty hated if the Pirates had moved on and were playing them.

They're uber-rich, cocky, showy, and they frequently whine to the umpires (about good calls!). And yet they're media darlings. Which even that usually causes hatred. But in this case most fans seem to be on their side.

It's all a bit bizarre. And I guess proves that winning and the exposure that comes with it is more likely to breed a negative response than anything else.

Look, I understand that it's satire. It still pained me to read. I know that's like getting upset over an Onion article but the only reason I heard of this article at all was because a Cardinal fan posted it to facebook.
