Didn’t some other team (I’m thinking Vermont, but they just did the maple kings) just do a celery uniform?

All we know down here in North Carolina is that the colors are black/gray/red (Fayetteville Hurricanes??) and the names could be any of these:

Fatbacks. Fly Traps. Jumpers. Wood Dogs.  Woodpeckers.

...it's going to be Fatbacks, isn't it?

When Fayetteville announced the BlackGray, and Red palette back in May, it struck me that those colors would lend themselves to the name Fayetteville Woodpeckers. Many of the woodpecker species found in North Carolina - including the Downy woodpecker, Hairy woodpecker, Ivory-billed woodpecker, Northern flicker woodpecker, Pileated woodpecker, Red-bellied woodpecker, Red-headed woodpecker, and the Yellow-bellied sapsucker - feature those colors in their plumage.

Well, we'll find out in just over a month.

It would seem a little odd to have the Woodpeckers in the same league as the (Down East) Wood Ducks.

Mobile's moving?  That blows.  And whatever replaces that great BayBears identity is more than likely going to be inferior to some degree, seeing as they're not going with Stars.

Galileo just asked why, he said why are you renaming the team.

Right now, I just feel sorry for poor Mobile...I wonder if either the Sally League or possibly the Coastal Plain League would open their doors to them...

With the exception of their first five or six years of operation, the BayBears have always had a tough time drawing crowds to Hank Aaron Stadium. The team has only finished in the top half of Southern League attendance four or five times, while finishing in the bottom third on 11 occasions (including this season's projected - and, obviously, to-be-expected - dead last). Including this year, the team has averaged fewer than 2,500 fans a game for seven straight seasons, Truth be told, most games Hank Aaron Stadium has sat half empty for much of the team's existence.

To save you a click:

Comet Jockeys
“Rocket City” was put on the map for its cutting-edge aerospace development. Comet Jockeys is a celebration of our brave astronauts who explore outer space.

Moon Possums
A scavenger at heart, these local critters are known for hanging around and having a good time with their family – just like going to ballgame!

Space Chimps
A tribute to Miss Baker, one of the first animals safely launched into space. She is buried on the grounds at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center.

ThunderSharks
Mix the powerful thunder of North Alabama’s storms with the ultra-strong, sleek determination of the shark and you end up with the personality of our community: willing to attack any problem. Visiting teams won’t mess with our ThunderSharks.

Trash Pandas
(Slang for raccoon) Our community is known for engineering, and no creature in our galaxy is as smart, creative, determined and ingenious a problem solver – dedicated to the challenge at hand – as our local raccoons!

Edited to reflect the final five that will be voted upon.

The PawSox appear to be very close to a move to Worcester with an announcement imminent.
