PhantomDreamer
Did Veterans Stadium cause cancer? Schilling was just diagnosed. Daulton has a brain tumor. Kruk had testicular cancer. Tug McGraw is dead. Johnny Oates is dead. Ken Brett is dead. I am sure there are others. I don't know if it is specifically an astroturf thing because obviously many other stadiums with that surface don't have the incidents of cancer that the Vet has. There was talk about Royals Stadium because of Howser and Quisenberry but maybe it's just an awful coincidence.

Someone refer back to this post in five months. What happens when he gets injured a month into the season? In all honesty, while I despise the Yankees as much as the next guy, and while I think Jeters's possibly one of the greatest Shortstops to play the game, certainly the best in recent memory, I honestly think him leaving is a good thing for the Yankees. While he's been great, I have to steal a quote from the guys at Intentional Talk: "There comes a point when there's a difference between being a veteran, and just getting old."For Jeter I think that point came a few years ago when he started getting injured alot more. I think that was one of the problems that the Yankees have had these past few years was their reluctance to find a good replacement for Jeter, (as well as Rivera) because they kept trying to tell themselves that he was going to come back for one great farewell tour of a season. I don't mean to say that it was the biggest problem that the Yankees faced, but I think it was certainly one of them. All in all, and I hate to say it for a number of reasons, but I honestly think that the Yankees will be better off without Jeter. Shameless Self Promotion! JayMac
2014 will be Derek Jeter's last season...good riddance!Thank God! I'm glad to hear it! And yes, this is first time ever I am speaking out of jealousy of a player. I honestly like him as a player but never really liked him because he played for the Yankees. FiddySicks
Finally. Ok, you can't deny that Jeter was a great player. He won championships, got a lotta hits, won some Silver Sluggers, and Gold Gloves (PFFFFT!!!!), and all that such and such. Despite all that, there hasn't been a single player in this era, and none that I can think of ever, who was more brazenly overrated than Derek Jeter. I've heard talking heads saying things such as "Jeter is the greatest player in the history of the game", and it makes me wanna puke. Of all the All Star Game nods and Gold Glove wins, probably a quarter or half of them were simply because he was Derek Jeter. The Gold Glove awards are the most egregious considering he's statistically one of the worst defensive short stops to ever play the game. Sure, Jeter was a great ball player. But I won't miss a single thing about him. On 11/19/2012 at 7:23 PM, oldschoolvikings said: She’s still half convinced “Chris Creamer” is a porn site.)
