Hoopladawg87's NBA Uniform Redesigns - KINGS ALTERNATE added 7/29

I've wanted to do a series of NBA uniform redesigns for quite a while now, but unfortunately but I never end up finding time to fully develop my ideas. A lot of them will likely incorporate retro colorways and classic design elements with current fonts and modern updates. I'll hopefully have some time over the next few months to develop some concepts, present them, and take into account feedback, so this will be the thread where I post any and all designs, updates, etc.

EASTERN CONFERENCE

Central Division

Milwaukee Bucks - Home, Road

Atlantic Division

Toronto Raptors - Home, Road

Southeast Division

Atlanta Hawks - Home, Road

Comments and criticism always welcomed... Please let me know your thoughts!

Great start, however, I'd take one of the shades of green out of the side striping and replace it with red.

Thanks for the suggestion. The side panels were the last part I worked on, and I'm not entirely sold on them as they are in the first post. I went ahead and added some red, and originally it seemed a little more red than I would envision a Milwaukee Bucks team going; however, the more I look at it, the more the additional red grows on me. Please let me know your thoughts!

I really like the Marquette/DePaul style barber shop pole stripes. I wish more people would use them.

Agreed, when done right I think they look terrific. I think part of the reason I'm drawn to this style of striping is the scarcity in which it is used, but I'd definitely like to see a few more teams incorporate it or variations of it, such as the Cleveland Cavaliers using it around the piping areas on their LeBron-era navy alternates.

The font used is kind of a throwback, which in my opinion makes it looks really good. Overall, the design is pretty clean and put together nicely. I'm looking forward to see more of your work.

Thanks a lot, I appreciate it! The Oscar Robertson- and Lew Alcindor-led Milwaukee Bucks are the only relevant teams in the franchise's history that stand out to me, so hopefully the retro feel reflects that era.

out of all the players to choose....

Unfortunately, Giannis is one of the only bright spots on the Milwaukee Bucks right now. Plus, for the sake of concepts, I usually try to find a player with a two-digit number composed of two different digits. Based on this logic, the other respectable players on the roster including O.J. Mayo (#00), Ersan Ilyasova (#7), Larry Sanders (#8), and Brandon Knight (#11) were all ruled out.

I agree with you, the more I look at the red striping the more it looks better. And yes, it is scarcely used and that is probably what makes it so great. I'm really loving this set and look forward to more!!

Looks good but the wordmark font is underwhelming. Plus a whit wordmark with red outline looks better than red wordmark with white outline.

College sports as we know them are just about dead. The lid is off on all the corruption that taints just about every major program and every decision that the schools or the NCAA make is only about money, money, and more money. We'll have three 16+ team super-conferences sooner rather than later, killing much of the regional flair and traditional rivalries that make college sports unique and showing the door to any school that doesn't bring money to the table in the process. Pretty soon the smaller schools are going to have to consider forming their own sanctioning body to keep the true spirit of college sports alive because the NCAA will only get worse in it's excess from here

The only thing missing in this cool remix of 87 is a current logo on the shorts (left leg, front bottom). Otherwise it is perfect.

I'd love to get into the logo side of things to complete these concepts, but unfortunately the quality of my logo work is questionable at best. I agree though, an updated logo would certainly help these uniforms (and probably many others).

I originally started with white text outlined in red, but it didn't stand out as boldly. I haven't changed the wordmark font in the newest update, but I've flipped the colors so that the text is in white and the outline is in color (albeit green rather than red). I'd love to know your thoughts.

Really reminds me of those Christmas tags that you see on presents

Yeah, the combination of red and green is very Christmas-like, and I think the second version posted may go a little too far with it.

I like the first version the best... what you have now looks too much like Christmas.

I'm torn between the first and third versions... One pushes the boundaries of the whole Christmas theme, while the other strays away from it by eliminating the red. Please let me know your thoughts on the version without the red!

Would been perfect without the red. Irish green rainbow would make it 10/10 especially with the classic font

I appreciate the input! The Irish green rainbow was the starting point in terms of inspiration for this concept, so I went ahead and removed the red entirely in favor of really embracing that theme. I like the home white version better without the red, but I haven't made up my mind just yet on which road green version I'm in favor of.

Here is what will likely be the final update for this concept. Although it grew on me, the red is slightly overbearing on the second version posted - a little too reminiscent of Christmas, as a few posters noted. I decided to follow Shadojoker's suggestion and drop the red entirely, which makes for a slightly cleaner look. I personally like the home white version of this third version the best, but I am still undecided on whether I like the first or third version of the road greens better. Any and all thoughts and input are always welcomed!

Thanks, Shadojoker! I appreciate the suggestion of just going with the Irish green rainbow and think the cleanness of it puts it above the green and red versions.

The next team I am working on is the Toronto Raptors. They're obviously working on a re-brand that is supposed to be unveiled in time for the 2015/16 season if I'm not mistaken, and it seems as though rapper Drake will be playing a significant role in this process. Instead of continuing with the Raptors' played out red and black color scheme or reverting to their days of purple, I decided to go in an entirely different direction inspired by the black and gold color scheme of Drake's OVO camp. The simplicity of the designs is influenced by the Brooklyn Nets' recent uniform updates designed in part by Jay-Z, and the franchise's heritage is captured by the striping on the sides of the jerseys and shorts paying homage to the pinstripe-era Toronto Raptors teams of the 1990's. Also, a recolored version of the Canadian flag is included on the belt buckle to embrace the team's fan base and further tie in its Canadian identity.

I have a feeling these uniforms will not be popular with the majority, but any and all feedback is welcomed. Thanks!

Can't see the Raptors uniforms. Can you fix that? I like the 2nd Bucks concept you did the best. I like red for the Bucks.

The Raptors uniforms should hopefully be fixed now. As for the Bucks concept, something about the red letters, numbers, collars, and striping - especially on the home white versions of the uniforms - was too much for me. I also tend to associate them with at least some red, but I couldn't quite find a solid balance without overdoing it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

I love that last Bucks set.

I appreciate it! I think it turned out well and I'm very glad that others agree.

Wow I love the use of the old Raptors pinstripe on the side panels. The concept is great however I would suggest that you add black shadow or outline to the home unis around the name s, numbers and even around the side pinstripes. White and gold is hard to see. A subtle shadow or dark outline would make it pop more.

Just an idea. Maybe the same for the road but use white. No biggie.

I like elements of all of them, but the thing that sticks out most to me is that I'd rather see "Milwaukee" on the roads.
