Now the situation is, with Commissioner Silver in office, will we finally see the return of the Sonics? As long as Tom Benson is owning the team, they're staying right where they are. The best chance Seattle has of returning to the NBA is either getting the Bucks or an expansion. Even with the new commissioner and all, I don't see any scenario that results in a SuperSonics revival happening in the next several years(If it ever happens at all). I can't think of any other teams currently in a situation where they're begging for a new building (besides Sacramento and Milwaukee).Personally, I would hate to see the Bucks leave Milwaukee...I realized that apathy has set in over the last couple of decades there, but it's not like they don't have a history of being competitive every year. Senator Kohl isn't an young man, and there's no telling what new owners coming in want to do. I know it's real hard getting public financing for a new arena, especially with the shenangians with Miller Park's financing...the Bucks need a real savior to keep them there. I can't stress enough what a mistake it was to get Oklahoma City at the expense of Seattle rather than New Orleans. I think a lot about how cool the Durant/Westbrook team would be as the Seattle Supersonics. I wonder how much of that same sort of positive, team-first attitude and symbiotic city/team relationship would be in Seattle vis-a-vis the place where they are now. The global reach for professional players hasn't been this great and will become larger with each Olympic cycle. Seattle would be the first city, the second, unsure. Kansas City, Las Vegas, and Louisville would be the top three pushing for it, but you could probably add the Hampton Roads VA area, Tampa, Nashville, and maybe Vancouver to the list. If the Bucks left town, would they have a legitimate shot at an NHL franchise? Is that a trade Milwaukee would be happy to make? Is it going to take a new building regardless? Just curious. I hate rooting for teams to leave town, but if you could fill the gap with another league's franchise, I'd feel less bad. Of course, I don't advocate NHL expansion, so even then someone would be losing a franchise, I suppose. (Or they'd just be stupid and expand. Probably this.) For those in KC... does KC still want an NBA team? I know they built the Sprint Center hoping to lure an NBA or NHL team, but that hasn't happened and the Sprint Center has turned into one of the most profitable venues anyways. Is it going to take a new building regardless?Most Milwaukeeans I've talked to would be more than happy to trade in the NBA for the NHL. I'd even say the possibility of a relocated NHL team (that could play at the Bradley Center once committed) would probably win over more people for a new arena than a Bucks franchise that hasn't bothered to field a truly competitive team in over a decade.
