Mizzou's Michael Sam comes out

I try not to go more than five over on regular roads. On tollways/expressways I just go with the flow, which is sometimes 25 over, but that's not my problem.

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

Drunk driving is not a "victimless crime", just a crime that doesn't have a victim yet. The act carries an intrinsic risk of creating victims, and is therefore proper grounds for law.

I haven't had sex with Amber Lancaster yet. Doesn't mean that it will happen.

I simply don't get how a rational person can support issuing tickets and/or jail time for something that might happen or hasn't happened. Not advocating everyone to drink brown liquor before hitting the roads, but there are alternate methods in handling drunk drivers than, and again I mention, using taxpayer money to keeping a guy in jail and the numerous folks working the courthouse and these 'crimes' being a cash flow for the police department. You guys are smart enough to figure out how to get these drunk drivers to a safe place to sober up.

This isn't like Minority Report... you are actually getting into your car and operating it while you are not of sound mind to do so. This is begging for a Ron Burgundy GIF, but is planning a terrorist attack not a crime because there are no victims yet?

There are systems in place to get drunk drivers home safely... taxis. Every damn city has 'em. There are even special programs where someone will drive you home from the bar and someone else will drive your car home for you. People are just too dumb and/or drunk to use them.

I'm a libertarian (little L), too, and the only traffic rule I really disagree with is the strict speed limits. Many places have a "soft" speed limit, but in NY you can be going 1 MPH over the speed limit and get a ticket. There are certain municipalities that specialize in these kinds of tickets... THAT'S a cash grab.

In ALL states, 1 mph OVER the speed limit is cause for a ticket. The only state I've seen enforce it that closely is PA.

If you have to wear glasses to drive and don't, that's a crime! Oh, let's hear about that being a victim ess crime

Tuesday, July 29 and the only person that's being a distraction is Ray Rice.

I thought it was much more common than it was, but there are states and situations where you can "legally" drive faster than the speed limit, and argue such in court if a cop does give you a ticket for it.

But, as a matter of common sense at which the cop will pull you over, the "cushion" should be at least 5 MPH. In the time it takes a cop to write out a 2 MPH ticket, I'm sure someone will drive by going faster.

Back in my former life before I destroyed my back, I was a sheriff's deputy in the great state of Kentucky and we would allow anyone to go 14 miles over the speed limit. But once you hit 15 over, it was light'em up time. Now as far as drinking and driving, we would ride a cars tail for several miles before pulling them over as most of the time it was a elderly person behind the wheel, but if we seen someone serve into oncoming traffic we pulled them over on the spot. As far as no harm, no foul, well I disagree with that thinking. If a person is legitimately drunk or buzzing really good, then they should receive a DUI and be taken to jail, unless there are special circumstances. Take for instance, if the guy was a known alcoholic then that's an easy arrest, but if it is a 16 year old kid, then sometimes it is best to call the parents and give them a fighting chance to correct their wrong before it happens again.

We're into August.

Nothing out of Rams' camp, except Sam...Dungy becoming more and more the fool it appears.

It seems our time could be better spent than counting the days we can continue to keep giggling at Tony Dungy. How does that help out the cause for Michael Sam?

We both want the same thing: Michael Sam's orientation to not be a big story. You're repeating the same point about tony Dungy because you think he's wrong and deserves to be mocked.

My question is how the continual berating of Tony Dungy helps Michael Sam at all.

Actually, this thread has gradually become the reactions to Michael Sam. We've barely heard a peep from the actual player in subject, relative to people openly stating their skepticism/hypocrisy over the kind of person Sam is.

Personally I think Dungy's just pissed about the 1999 NFC championship game.
