This is really nice...

This is not...

See I was thinking the exact opposite. The FC logo has that bloated look that went out of style 10 years ago, and is far too busy. The SC logo is simpler.

Here's why I disagree:

Yes, the FC badge is busier, but it's not poorly-executed. I like the abstract nature of shield, recognizing the eagle first, then the cresting wave beneath. You only see the lion and the bear when you take a minute to look really hard at it. Yes, the soccer ball looks tacked on and the shield is a little bloated, but the type isn't too bad and the whole thing would look very classy embroidered.

While the SC badge is simpler, that doesn't mean it's better. The design is good in theory, but it is train-wrecked by poor design decisions. Instead of having a straight cross with four similar quadrant sizes, they decided to randomly curve the cross in what was already an oddly-shaped crest, creating 4 very different sized quadrants. This problem is compounded by the fact that the icons were all left at the same size. In fact, the one icon that could have been recognizable at the smallest size (the star) has the largest quadrant and has far too much awkward negative space above it. Meanwhile, the icons that needed the most space are now crammed in a tiny corner and lose most of their recognition due to their small size. If anything, they should have rotated the cross and given the star the smallest quadrant and the bear the largest.

In addition, the font used in the SC badge is far too modern of a type to use with such a historical and simple badge... Also, the Web 2.0 effects look worse on the SC badge because of the more traditional design. All in all, the idea is fine, but the execution of that badge is simply awful. Give me the badge that is at least an interesting and well-designed abstract illustration.

For some reason the image won't post directly, so here's the second teaser for the Fire's new jersey. I say second since the first they posted was just the AdiZero logo, so there's no need to post that.

speaking of the Sounders,

unpopular opinion: The inaugural year kits for the MLS Sounders were the best kits in MLS history by far, and one of the best in modern history.

I miss these, as well as the blue away kits.

I agree that those were the best of the bunch. The white Adidas shoulder stripes are much preferred to the blue. I never liked the blue side patch. I'd say keep the current kit but make the shoulder stripes white and call it good.

This one's got my vote.

Well now, those LAFC/SC logos might really happen now.

Bye bye Chivas USA.

If I was the new owner I'd ask for a contraction/expansion deal. Clean franchise history break.

Totally agree. Best to just be a new team, with new history, etc. Unless they can work with the owners of the Aztecs to bring them back and then adopt that history as the Sounders, Timbers, Whitecaps, etc. have done.

The article states the club will continue as Chivas USA for the 2014 season, with any rebrand being undertaken by the eventual new owners. Which means those LAFC/SC logos might never make it to the pitch. While a new owner may like the name, it seems unlikely they would not develop their own crest.

Blech. White shoulder stripes were an upgrade, but that one is waaay too Adidas-templated for my liking.

And I've always HATED the Sounders color scheme. The green isn't bright enough, and the blue would look much better as navy.

Garber confirmed that Vergera owns those 2 logos so they'll never be used.

I thought Columbus was doing the full rebrand next season? Why would they release a new primary this year?

Every club was required to debut one new jersey this season. Hence why Colorado is getting a new primary after only one season.
