Incidentally, nameplates were done away with when Champion took over from Sand-Knit (not that many teams still used them - only the Bucks & Kings were using them at that point) in 1990. I've heard a few reasons why (Champion wanted direct-sewn names, they were too difficult/expensive to make, they weren't compatible with the new lightweight mesh material...). The Dantley jersey pictured above is actually a repurposed 1989-90 Sand-Knit jersey with the SK tag removed and a Champion one added. I've seen Sand-Knit jerseys used as late as the 92-93 season///

Yes, I came across the site in my search for the original buck logo and found those there or another site that had them.

That seems plausible about the nameplates. I'd guess Champion outsourced the lettering for their uniforms. I remember talking to a Liebe Company rep once about nameplates and was told at times it was difficult to letter uniforms because the nameplate color and material supplied by the factory wouldn't match the uniforms. Yes, Sand-Knit uniforms were quite durable. Didn't players have only one or two sets and used them multiple years back then?

Because I'm a nice person I'll answer your question. Firstly, this thread is titled "Milwaukee Bucks Originals," a thread under Sports Logos, "Discussing the history of sports logos, as well as any news and rumours." So you are correct that this thread is about my passion, as well as other for the Bucks. I also stated in my opening post that some people don't care for the Bucks.

No, this thread is not just about the love of the Irish Rainbow, but also a visual lesson in the history of the Bucks through their logos, uniforms and other elements. By doing this we may have a better understanding of the choices the Bucks make if and when they do redesign, and not have an OMG moment when they are unveiled. This may happen with a change in ownership and new arena in the very near future. So you are absolutely correct that this thread, as it is titled, "Milwaukee Bucks Originals" is a visual about the old Bucks.

I see that this was your only post in this thread and you also made a similar remark in concepts, "Updating Vintage Logos." If you do not wish to contribute to this thread, that's perfectly fine, it's your choice.

Apparently you are reading this thread and may have an interest in the Bucks, good or bad and I would love for you to participate more, but that's a choice only you can make. Thank you.

This thread reminded me that when I was in Wisconsin visiting relatives over the past Summer, (I've lived in California my whole life) I drove by the Bradley Center and Mecca.

The Bradley Center looks like a shopping mall as opposed to an arena. The fact that the Bucks old arena is right next to their current is really weird.

Old School Fool, thank you for sharing your thoughts and photos and I agree, it's strange having them so close to each other. I was in Milwaukee when the Bradley Center was built and my first thought was, it's a modern factory. To me, it's a cold, boxy, lifeless structure and wouldn't miss it at all if I were to visit Milwaukee again.

Looking up at the exterior walls of the Bradley Center in '88 also reminded me of this:

Lucasfilm Animation Singapore shaped their building like the iconic Jawa Sandcrawler and I would've been awestuck if I had seen something like this as the new arena in '88:

That Bluejays (one word, don't ask me why) jersey is itself a repurposed Milwaukee Brewers jersey from the early 40s, when they were a Brewers farm team.

They just swapped out the red block "M" from the chest and added the very cool sleeve patch (something the Brewers sadly never had).

Hmm… I take it you're referring to the cat and her kitten and not… you missed the country by 2,680 miles! Siamese cats are from Thailand. Though the sinister Si and Am were depicted in Asian stereotypes of the '40s and '50s in "Lady and the Tramp," I found the reference quite amusing.

Back to basketball and not about the Bucks, but Marquette Warriors' untucked jerseys. I watched ESPN's 30 for 30 Shorts: "Untucked," and thought, was Marquette really the first team to ever wear their jerseys untucked, like the film portrays?

I remembered from the film that Bo Ellis visited Mount Mary College, an all women's school in Milwaukee to design the uniforms. So I looked for his inspiration and found these photos of Marquette women's basketball. Did Bo's untucked design start a trend in women's basketball uniform style?
