Tampa Bay Buccaneers Getting New Logo, Helmet & Uniforms

Well, after a day to digest it, and a night to sleep on it, I've actually changed my opinion a bit on these uniforms. I figured I'd need about 24 hours to really let them sink into my brain, and when I woke up this morning and pulled up a picture of the new set, I have to say,

I hate them even more now.

Seriously. :censored: these changes. I'm no longer kind of annoyed about these changes, I'm actually a bit pissed off. The Bucs have been nothing short of an absolute joke since the Glazers bought Man U, and their ONE saving grace was their uniforms and logos. There is seriously NOTHING left to be proud of when it comes to this team. I've tried to be open minded, but McCarthy is right.

I have to agree. The excessive pewter on the yokes, flat pewter (anthracite) fabric, horrible font, and wonky pant stripe are all beyond redemption.

Strangely I think a recolored miami dolphins uniform with the new helmet would have looked pretty damn good.

I think one way to get the Bucs to realize the unis are repellant is to not buy ANY of the new merchandise. I am a fan of the bucs since Doug Williams tenure there and THESE are just above Jacksonville and if they were to see the numbers dwindle that could be good.

But I guarantee what I just wrote is a pipe dream. THERE WILL BE PEOPLE who will snatch the new stuff and keep referring to the popular word of the last 10 years which is SICK!!!! But in the totally wrong context.

COME ON, WHERE IS THE PUKING EMOTICON WHEN YOU NEED IT!

Just to remind the Nike bashers - these are some of the "amazing" uniforms that the previous supplier created:

Nike hasn't been perfect by any means, but almost anything is better than the piping-and-panels monstrosities that Reebok lazily pumped out.

Those Bengals and Cards uniforms are ugly but still head and shoulders above the Bucs or Jaguars abortions. I'd probably even take them over Seattle's mess, personally.

And comparatively speaking, the Patriots don't even belong in the discusion. That uniform has issues but is so much better than the Jags/Bucs/hawks.

This is going to make me unpopular. Yesterday I HATED it. The first image made the pewter look kind of brown.

But, the more I think about it, the more I think a high quality rendering of this design would have received pretty decent reviews in the concepts forum.

In other words: I think we are suckers for stuff like this when it's presented well on concepts, but we :censored: our pants when we see it in real life.

Not to get into a "which manufacturer sucks more" argument, but the only one of those that needs extensive changes is Arizona, in my opinion. All the Bengals need is the removal of side panels and maybe a better font, and all the Patriots need is the removal of piping. I compare that to Seattle, Jacksonville, and Tampa Bay, and 2/3 of those need extensive changes in my opinion.

Tradition is the foundation of innovation, and not the enemy.

Technically the Pats design was adidas before the exclusive deal and before the acquisition of rbk. Nonetheless all of the rbk era designs were effectively poorly executed iterations of the broncos and other nike templates.

I think it's funny when people say something already looks "dated". Well, wouldn't that "dated" look also apply to the Broncos, Falcons, Rams, and Cardinals?

With the exception of the Rams, yes. Granted, the current Rams look isn't their best, but it's still a pretty good look. And it's way better than the other three you mentioned.

I have to disagree yes some people in the concepts forum would have loved these but there are some that love anything with cutoff stripes & such.

I cannot get behind the design because it does not make sense & does not look good together. too much red on the helmet not enough on the jersey or pants.

No pewter in the logo pewter everywhere else & random stripes of orange put in.

No Pirate feel to the whole uniform or logo & the stupid Bucs wordmark on the sleeve! cmon man!

Phil Hecken posted this on twitter. It's the Bucs template recolored as if they were the Giants, Jets and Eagles.

This helped me see the biggest problem with this set (besides the font) is the over use of Pewter and the overall color scheme. Giants (sans numbers) doesn't look horrible. Nor do the other two. The over use of an ugly color when matte (Pewter) and trying so hard to mix creamsicle and red make the new Bucs set the worst jersey/pant combo currently in the league. By far.

Now the helmet...that's another story for another day.

That eagles is a horrible recolor. The segment past the 3 is still colored red.

I agree, I think the orange is the worst part of these uniforms. They're still bad without it, but not nearly as bad.

Don't know if this has been discussed (not reading through all 87 pages), but I think the worst part about these uniforms is the darker pewter. I mean, besides the number font. It just looks black to me, and that makes the uniform so bland imo. If it was the previous pewter I think I'd be a lot more accepting of the uniforms. Aside from the stupid number font, of course.

Still can't get over that font. It looks worse every time i see it. Beyond everything else the font is just jaw-droppingly bad.

There are things that I don't care for but I can kinda sorta see how through someone else's eyes (even if just one person) it looks good, or has some appealing quality.

The Buffaslug comes to mind. I can understand why some people liked it, and while I think it was a disgrace to the franchise, I can even see why an owner or decision maker would go that route.

I just can't see that with these numbers. I cannot imagine any scenario in which that concept is presented and someone says "yes! That's it!" I am trying hard. I'm trying to think like a teenager. I'm trying to think like an athlete. I'm trying to think like a marketing director. I just can't see it.

This is horrid. Call me a traditionalist but PLEASE let's go back to single colored jerseys with horizontal sleeve stripes. Plain. Simple. Effective. All this multiple colored fluorescent crap Nike is forcing on the public seems so bush league. I want my dad's National Football League back NOT the No Fashion League!

It is not pewter at all. On the helmet, perhaps, but that is because the helmet has a metallic finish. When it is transferred to the fabric of the jersey and pants it is matte, so it looks like dirty laundry water rather than a metallic grey. Either washed out and faded black or dirty water grey. Not a good look.
