waltere
I've given this time to settle in, avoid knee jerk reactions and try and give a balanced view on it.With that said HOLY CRAP THEY ARE AWFUL. There is absolutely nothing to redeem this look.In a vacuum these would be quite possibly the worst uniforms in the history of the NFL, but considering they are so unnecessarily replacing a genuine 'modern classic' set this is probably my least favourite rebranding in the history of sports. you Tampa Bay Buccaneers, you Nike, everyone involved in this mess. 1 hour ago, BringBackTheVet said: sorry sweetie, but I don't suck minor-league d CCSLC Post of the day September 3rd 2012
CubsFanBudMan
The numbers are definitely skewing everyone's opinion. That, and the fact that their modern classics didn't need an overhaul. It was going to be a downgrade pretty much no matter what, but by releasing that 22 white jersey first, the alarm clock numbers thing is going to stick. (The blinking OO mockup is excellent.)The Tampa Bay Lightning fanbase got numbers altered before they debuted, so the community is capable if they are motivated by this as well. However, this is some next-level BS:"Tampa Bay also becomes the first NFL franchise to incorporate a revolutionary reflective chrome border around the numbers on the front, back and shoulders. The chrome border incorporates a technologically advanced reflective coating that adds a new dimension, increased readability and a unique glow to the numbers."Jordans had reflective tongues in the early '90s. This is not new tech, not even for Nike.
oldschoolvikings
I can't take any more comments about "except for the number font..." The number font is hugely important to a football jersey. Its easily the second most important identifier, right after color. To say, this uniform is not bad "except for the number font" is like saying the Titanic was a decent cruise before the iceberg or Abe Lincoln enjoyed the play before getting shot.Picture whatever football jersey you consider to the the best ever... your personal greatest. Now put this number font on it. Instant garbage. On top of that, I disagree with the point entirely. I think even with a nice number font this uniform is a mess, and would still be getting hammered on this site. http://dstewartpaint.blogspot.com/
rmackman
Jaguars still have the worst uniforms in the NFL but even then it's due to their helmet.Aside from the Buccaneers number font, their uniforms look like something that's modern basically. I can live with the helmet because it's a totally unique thing, it sets them apart from everyone else and it's as if the players are literally "flag bearers" for their team. It has a cool visual when looked at from the front. It's funny how this board works. If something is simple and classic looking, everyone will crap on it (See: Vikings) but when someone modernizes and tries to introduce something new to the world of uniforms it too gets crapped on.I like Minnesota's look minus the black facemask. I thought overall the Vikings were the most well-received out of the new NFL Nike unveilings (Minnesota, Seattle, Miami, Tampa Bay, Jacksonville). As an entire body of work, I'd give Nike a D+ on their designs though. "Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be eaten. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve. It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle. When the sun comes up, you'd better be running." - Unknown | Check out my articles on jerseys at Bacon Sports
wonderbread
I think the reason i like this uni is because it reminds me of a hockey jersey with that yolk, and I'm a bruins fan and the yolk looks a lot like the bruins

Crash
Minnesota by far is the best with Seattle coming in second the other three are terrible because they do not seem to have any thought put into them. The problem isn't that they haven't had any thought put into them, it's that they've had too much thought put into them. I'm nearly positive that each of these started out with a fairly decent initial idea or design and were constantly tinkered with and merged with other designs ad naseum. This leads to a loss of cohesion and produces a susceptibility to bad design in the name of innovation. And, of course, in this context, "innovation" is synonymous with "advertisement." As soon as these uniforms aren't about the team, but about the physical uniform, bad things happen.

SuperLeafsFan
The more I look at these, I don't get all the hate. The design isn't the greatest design ever, but the uniform isn't all that bad. What I like:- I like the addition of orange more.- The new helmet- The darker pewter- PantsWhat I hate:- The numbers- The fact they look like a arena team/jags- The shoulders not matching- The back of the uniform- The socksI feel like this was a move to get people to buy more merchandise. If I had my way, I would've just updated the Creamsies and brung back Bucco Bruce. Instead, they go futuristic and decide to throw out there history for . WHY TAMPA? WHY? If you had to do this, you could've made it a lateral move. Instead, you it up. Great job, Nike. Your just as bad as everyone else. I think I like smilies too much! As soon as these uniforms aren't about the team, but about the physical uniform, bad things happen. And I think that Edward Glazer's quote in the post at UniWatch (Hope it's ok I'm citing this here) the other day really brings out the above point, that "too much thought" was put into the new uniforms:"Glazer: We started this process a couple of years ago. And because we already had a uniform everyone was happy with, we were never in a rush. It was always, “Let’s take our time until we have something everyone feels great about, and then let’s move forward at that point.” We worked with Todd [Van Horne] over the years, looked at a lot of different designs, continued to meld and tweak, and got to the point where we looked at each other and said, “That’s it. That encapsulates the past, present and future.” I also think the above reveals that what others have stated about the design process is true - Nike suggests a ton of these modern options, but ultimately, it's up to the team to evaluate the designs, assist in melding and tweaking, and ultimately approve whatever becomes the new uniform. To put that another way: I think we can blame Nike for pushing and suggesting all the modern, "technological" "innovations" of their uniforms during the design process. BUT, ultimately, the team has to sign off on the new uniform. If the Bucs had wanted a classic, traditional uniform, they could have asked that of Nike. Instead they accepted this design as one that "encapsulates the past, present, and future." Especially since they did it with their previous redesign, I would love for the Bucs to show us the different designs that were looked at and rejected. (Sorry to be mentioning this point again, as I posted this last thought about a dozen pages back).

LMU
How are these tame? These are the antithesis of tame. Digitized numbers, flat pewter yoke (that's looks like black got left out in the sun), flat pewter pants, arena league look, shiny pewter helmet with a first-of-its-kind-in-the-NFL chrome facemask, biggest helmet logo in the history of the NFL, random color spots, differing sleeve logos, and overly detailed logos. What's tame about all of that?I see nothing that improves anything. Using pewter on the jerseys would've ruined the old look. Using that much pewter on the jerseys here looks tacky and overdone. There's no subtlety, no restraint, no thought put into it. Maybe I'm freaking out, but maybe everyone who doesn't like it has a point. If the majority are this against, if the Tampa fans are this against it, maybe something's wrong with it. IMHO...Helmet: downgradePrimary logo: donwgradesecondary logo: downgradejerseys: downgradepants: downgradenumbers: possibly the dumbest single element I've ever seen on an NFL uniformsocks: downgradeI'm trying to be as objective as I can and I don't think they're an improvement.I don't like when things that aren't broken try to get fixed. I really don't like when things that aren't broken get fixed by replacing it with something that is broken. It's insanity and now the NFL looks 1/32nd worse than it used to.
