That's not a new template, is it?

no its the Elite51, which i'm actually a bit surprised about. its my opinion that the Elite51 (slight update tot he Speed Machine) was made to just serve the NFL business for the first couple of years and Nike will soon roll out a new template. after seeing their latest on Oregon for the bowl game, i really thought the Bucs might roll out in that template today.

Another member here who's a HUGE Bucs fan and who dries a semi truck just pointed out the similarities to me.

I fear what Nike has in store for my Browns in 2015

.

The Browns already look like total horse****. Its not like they could look any worse.

The Browns should have been rebranded and those current mess of a uniform burned and tossed into Lake Erie, when they came back into the league in 1999.

And for the 198th time...QUIT BLAMING NIKE!!! The teams are the ones who make the decisions on the rebrands and uni changes. NFL properties is heavily involved too. You morons blaming Nike for everything don't know what you are talking about...as usual.

You have to admit that the large logo, use of chrome and bright colors all reek of nike. Not complaining about the features but its pretty obvious they have a great deal of control...

Overall, I like them. I think they could be better, but the home unis really look good. I think it's a great update.

Like I said, I would change the number font, but other than that, they get an 8/10 in my book as far as the recent redesigns go.

Seems like Nike has an infatuation with team nicknames...

Seattle- "12th man"- #12 is printed inside collar and they have 12 totem pole things on the pants

Jaguars- "Jags"- They put a patch on the jersey that says "JAGS"

Buccaneers- "Bucs"- so they put the wordmark on the left sleeve

If the Bucs said "wow, that flag is just too big. We want it the same size as before", Nike might say "but... but BIG... and..." but the Bucs could just say "we want it smaller. Thanks."

"control" is in the hands of the client.

The longer I sit with this the more upset I get.. I mean, this really is turning into a lost opportunity.

Can someone please tell me what happened to this Nike?

Those are all so very clean, professional, and... well, digestible in comparison. You know, there was a time I was hoping Nike would tweak the Lions set, removing the black and possibly even fixing the number font. But I'm starting to think they don't know how to tweak. Now I don't want them to touch the Lions. Subtle fixes do not appear to be in their playbook.

Vikings fans should count themselves lucky they made it out alive. Ya, their number font isn't great, and I'm still not sold on the sleeve stripe, but in hindsight it certainly could have been worse.

God help us.

I think your post proves why it's stupid to blame Nike.

If a client wants a traditional or more reserved design, Nike is clearly capable of creating it. The release even said that Nike worked with the league and team to come up with this. So while it was their designers, either the team said "whatever, just make something you think is cool", or "we want to really stand out so give us all your cool new tricks" or maybe one of their internal guys even sketched something like this out and just gave it to Nike to refine. Regardless, your post shows that if a team wants a certain look, that's what they're going to get. Either Tampa specifically wanted a "cutting edge" look, or just didn't care.

exactly where i was going to go. to me, the new identity smells of a client with bad taste who had too much control over the design. still, it's not like Nike is rolling out great design even 50% of the time. from them and everyone else, you get a handful of really good stuff each year. the rest is rehashed and recycled ideas mixed with some really poor new design

I agree that TB & NFL are at some fault but lets face it the Nike designers are using the half stripes that do not reflect any team much less the team its intended for.

Bottom line the designer of this uniform did not put a lot of thought into this for them to even show it.

I doubt TB said we need this font added & the cut off stripes the Jaguars have because they look awesome not to mention the sleeves a different color.

At least with the Seahawks & Vikings (which I like some aspects of) they had elements they used throughout the uniform.

The Jaguars & Bucs were just cookie cutter use of a template.

In spite of who actually gives input and green lights the final design nike/client/league etc. All of the uniform elements reek of nike at every level. When I first saw the images I immediately thought of a tweaked JAGS template which is not that far off.

I was chastised to no end for trying to tell you guys the only source saying it was minor changes was Florio and that all signs pointed to a major overhaul.

Hate to say I told you so.

These uniforms... I don't even know if I like them.

And those that know me know that's bad....

Reading comprehension must not be your strong suit. From this link: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/02/18/buccaneers-uniform-changes-wont-be-drastic/

Here's the money quote "According to Roy Cummings of the Tampa Tribune, Bucs officials said no drastic changes have been made to the familiar red and pewter color scheme."

To summarize, Darin Gantt posted what was reported to a writer with the Tampa Tribune per a Buccaneers official. It was a Buccaneers official who said "no drastic changes have been made".

Pretty damn funny you're talking about reading comprehension.

Florio said there "may be minor changes to the uniforms." While the Bucs official said there would be only "minor changes to the RED AND PEWTER used"

The classic "call a guy stupid while unknowingly having something stupid in your text" maneuver.

Again, Mike Florio said nothing of the sort. Darin Gantt said "While the team will unveil a new logo and helmet design Thursday, the changes to the teams uniforms could be subtle.". Could be. Not will be.

Put another way, please point out to me where Mike Florio said that the changes would be minor?

OK... so a white number with a silver outline, then a black outline... THEN an orange outline? Have we broken some sort of new ground with the triple outline? Can't think of another.

It's not unprecedented...the unused Jaguars unis from the mid-90s were going to have three outlines.

The uniforms are just so amateur looking. The number font looks like Baylor's font on a two-week bender. The template sucks. The different shoulder/sleeve patches are lame (should have used the ship on both arms). I think the helmets are the best part.

Complete downgrade in uniforms. Nike tried too hard on this one, and I'm surprised the team/NFL Properties said "yeah, this is good for the league".

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

I completely agree with you. But you have to release sometimes the client doesn't know what's best for them and allows the "design" team to manhandle the situation.

The font is not ideal, but I still think these jerseys are fine. Not worth the over reaction that exemplifies this board.

I'm sorry but these jerseys are terrible. The worst in the NFL. Not as bad as the Jags helmets but looking straight at jerseys they are terrible.

For those complaining about Nike being the ones at "fault" clearly know nothing about design.

Nike probably gave them a handful of concepts, and at that point the organization chose aspects that they liked, didn't like, etc, and they finally came to an agreement on the final product after much trial and error. However, that's not to say the the Bucs brass didn't give Nike an idea in the first place on what direction they were looking to move in.

It's not a dictatorship, Nike doesn't have control. They merely make suggestions, and if the team doesn't like it, then they don't HAVE to do anything.

Besides, it's a uniform set that's 2 years in the making...do you really think this was the first draft, and they were like, "well I guess we can settle on this... "

Common sense people. Just because you're not happy with the uniforms doesn't make it okay to criticize a process that you know nothing about. The team is happy, the players are happy, and that's all that matters. It will win over the fans in time.
