Tampa Bay Buccaneers Getting New Logo, Helmet & Uniforms

I realize that this is more of a concept, but HAD they gone with a number style similar to their wordmark... this would be the number font, with the silver being the shiny chrome.

I'm usually not one for drop shadows, but it kinda works.

Send that to them now! Get to it! They need these to save the uniforms! Maybe without the drop shadow, but it's miles better than what they have now, obviously.

Even with the drop shadow, it's miles better than what they have now.

Drop shadow/outlines to be hashed out later, but that is a good looking number set.

I'm not a fan of drop shadows but good God anything is better than their current numbers.

Here's the Red jersey version:

No - the actual uniform doesn't have a gradient - this is just to visually represent Chrome.

The dot pattern however, IS part of the actual design. Like the patterns in the Seahawks' numbers

And what kind of high tech things do the dots do? Repel sweat? Makes you run faster?

Enhances your reflexes.

Nauseates your opponent.

In keeping with the Buccaneer theme embodied throughout the uniform, the dots symbolize an outbreak of smallpox aboard a pirate ship.

...I'm still waiting for that chemical reaction to kick in. Some of you older fellas may know what I'm talking about: when you've known someone for a while who if you saw in passing out on the street somewhere you'd never even give a second look since she's (or he's) just really visually unattractive...yet over time something internally just attracts you to that person anyway, and then something in your brain starts tricking you into finding things about that person that you think actually are attractive--eyes, hair, smile, how she (or he) looks "good" when dressed up--stuff like that.

For you youngsters, this is real. ^^^

As for the uniforms, I also haven't had the chemical reaction yet. This could be a decent modern set if they changed the number font (. . . and made a few other tweaks, like reducing the size of the helmet logo). Unfortunately, the numbers are just as much of a dealbreaker as the Jags' helmets. Therefore, even the good parts get lost.

Yeah, this new set is never going to have that type of appeal. Even stockholm syndrome wouldn't make me like these.

These uniforms basically have the face of Clint Howard and the personality of Jodi Arias.

Nothing about this new Bucs uniform is perfect. Those new numbers just make them less bad.

That's the funniest part of all this. Even if the number font wasn't horrific, most of the posters who hate the uniform now (not all, but most) would still hate it. The font is just so over-the-top code red awful that its giving some people a way out of admitting the truth about what's happening from the neck down. It's not pretty.

I remember saying the same thing last year about the Jaguars. We kept getting comments that stared with, "If it wasn't for the helmet..." But if it wasn't for the helmet the jaguars would still have silly shiny inserts on their shoulders, still have plain teal sleeves, still have those clunky pants "stripes", still wear black monochrome, still have leotard-creating socks... in other words, still be wearing one of the worst uniforms in the NFL.

Same with the Buccaneers. The font is so bad its distracting some people from the rest of the mess.

Agreed...I actually think if they toned down the rest of the superflous crap the font would actually be bearable...not a good situation by any means but it could be tolerated. What I think makes the set over the top bad is the pewter yokes on both jerseys...it's just that kind of overkill that emphasizes how busy and superflous this design is.

That's pretty much my problems with the trio of bad (in my opinion) revamps so far (Seahawks, Bucs, Jags). It's just too much. You remove one element, and a million others jump out at you. What's really a shame is that I see a few good ideas buried under the excess. I'm 100% certain that if whoever was responsible for these would've shown some restraint, we would've gotten something like the two other revamps (Dolphins & Vikings): Inoffensive uniforms with a few new twists, and the mileage of those twists may vary by opinion.

Why is the "everything but the kitchen sink" method so popular now?

Tradition is the foundation of innovation, and not the enemy.

That's your opinion - I disagree, though. Personally, the number/NOB font is literally the only thing I completely dislike about this uniform. I'd tweak a few other things, but would be totally content with just some better fonts. It's not looking for a way out, it's not a distraction, just my honest view of the look.

New Bucs with the jerseys.

Poor Verner just can't escape that shoulder yoke, can he?

that joke of a yoke reminds me, Nike's production/execution of previous designs overall have been pretty good in the NFL. but the Bucs and Titans designs really bother me because of the way they are done on the back. (and with the Bucs, its worse because its just a fill-in-the-blank design all around). you see above how the seam of the red and pewter parts run into the collar like that? its a small detail but i think it really looks cheap. heres how they've done the Titans jerseys

1379554535000-AP-Titans-Texans-Football.

its the same way on Tennessee's back. i think that is just a really unflattering execution. id like to give Nike the benefit of the doubt that its just the way it has to be on this jersey template, and Tennessee just has to live with it. But they do the same thing with the Bucs and make it even worse because the shoulders are filled with color and you clearly get this "2 jerseys sewn together" hack design rather than a nice clean yoke that looks like it had some thought and craftsmanship put into it that Reebok (i think it was them) designed. the front of the jerseys look good and are pretty close to the original intent of the design, even if the TV number is close to creating a tangent with that seam of color, i can live with the front edge. that back edge is just really odd to me. for comparison, here's how Reebok did it

FinneganGriffin.jpg

now i dont believe you change the product (jersey) just to suit the decoration, but this is one clear area where Reebok > Nike.
