Sport
The logo on the old helmet looked like a sticker slapped onto it, as opposed to the logo (sticker) blending onto the helmet. The old helmet was also starting to look kinda dark and muddy. The black face mask had to go.Dark and muddy kinda fits a pirate themed team, no? The black face mask was sharp, understated, but also tied the helmet in with the other black parts of the uniform such as the pants stripe, the number outlines, and the collar and sleeve cuffs. I have no idea what the thought process behind a bright chrome face mask is other than "KEWWWWLLLLL THAT LOOKS SICCKKKKK OMGZOMG111111ONE!!!!!". It matches nothing else on the uniform and sticks out like an idiot sore thumb. "The logo on the old helmet looked like a sticker slapped onto it" That's because it was a sticker slapped onto it. 99% of helmet decals are stickers slapped on the helmet. It also fit within the space, was a better logo, and had a better weight balance throughout the logo. I don't understand this criticism (you're reaching). No kidding it's a sticker but it shouldn't look like a sticker, instead it should blend into the helmet. The white outline around the logo (sticker) did not help it any, and thats not a reach. It is a reach because it doesn't make any sense. Almost every helmet in the NFL has a sticker slapped on the side so where's the expectation that it must look like it's blended in with the helmet come from? What does "blended into the helmet" even mean? "it shouldn't look like a sticker, instead it should blend into the helmet" yeah that stupidly enormous logo is really blending into the helmet. I almost didn't even notice it was there. Also, note the keyline around the logo. The outline is still there.
daniel75
It should look uniform, whole, as one. NOT LIKE A STICKER how do you not get that. The WHITE outline on the old helmet did not help it any. Just my opinion
OnWis97
So the outline is slightly darker now?I don't see either of these stickers blending in more than the other. In any case, they could have silvered up the outline on a regular sized logo and avoided this college one-off look. Sport
But the new one still looks like a sticker. A worse, bigger sticker. and I don't see it as valid criticism because most teams have helmets that look like they have a sticker on the side of the helmet (BECAUSE THEY DO THAT'S HOW HELMET DECALS ARE USUALLY APPLIED TO HELMETS). Expecting a sticker to not look like a sticker (and the new logo totally still looks like a sticker) is an unreasonable complaint of something that almost every other team does. I kinda see the "blending in" he's talking about, though I would never have thought of it on my own. The silver outline is a less "jarring" transition between helmet and logo. Team-by-team, I am sure we could find a few more with the same issue. I would certainly argue some of the classics (Packers, Bears, Raiders) look like stickers slapped on helmets for the same reason. If the changing outline color was done for this reason, fine. And I'd have been OK with that if they did not choose to have the logo be giant just because they could. Just my opinion If you have to argue that the new helmet is better because it makes a sticker look less like a sticker (which it totally doesn't, either) than you're reaching so hard you might as well be in yoga class. This new look is complete and total garbage. On 11/19/2012 at 7:23 PM, oldschoolvikings said: She’s still half convinced “Chris Creamer” is a porn site.) TheOldRoman
To pile on, the new helmet is not only worse, but ridiculous. You want to talk about "looks like a sticker?" The new one looks like a horrible Photoshop. Like someone took a stock football helmet picture and awkwardly slapped a Buccaneers logo on it without properly sizing it. I'd say "insanely large logo so cumbersome that it covers up all the vents and conflicts with the facemask" has more of a sticker look, as it looks like they applied adult-sized decals to children's helmets. It's big, obnoxious, and there's no denying what business it's advertising. There's a pirate themed laser tag place in Cincinnati called Scallywag Laser Tag (yes it's real and there are two of them). I would drive by, forget I was about to drive by a pirate themed laser tag, and then crack up laughing as I drove by the pirate themed laser tag. Anyways, take a volkswagen bug, give it the same finish as the Bucs helmet (with a chrome grill of course), wrap the car in the same giant logo and you have the perfect car wrap for Scallywag Laser Tag.It's ridiculous for the helmet of an NFL team though. Make it so you can only see the full logo if a group of players stands in a particular way. Or runs in formation. And chrome as far as the eye can see. That would be #fire. But then, maybe they wouldn't look like stickers and would blend into the helmet. Oh, eff it all...the new helmet sucks. Bad.
FiddySicks
I think the helmet sticker should be so big that it covers the entire earth and just kills us all. That'd definitely be better than having to watch the Bucs take the field in these monstrosities. tubby34
I like the big flag, if they had done the redesign right - it would have been a nice change. Right would have been a black facemask, no spray paint marks by a 5 year old and maybe a resign in the same vein as the dolphins and Vikings. Bland with some flair. Old School Fool
I like the Buccaneers uniforms. I regret nothing. There's some weird, possibly unintentional things I like about it... like...The flag and sword are so big, it's giving an illusion that there is a sword attached to the facemask carrying the flag. Another great, possibly unintentional thing is that the vent holes in some helmet models make the flag look torn and tattered. It's not GREAT, but I wouldn't classify it as REALLY BAD. I've seen much worse things like position specific pants, Notre Dame 2012 Shamrock Series, the Jaguars current helmet, etc.

Buster
Watched the Bucs in red jerseys against the Redskins and was surprised that I did not hate it as much when seeing it in action. The only elements I hated were the numbers and those random paint streaks on the helmet. The uptick in orange looks great, the helmets are nice other than the streaks and overall, they look decent. They have a solid color scheme and that helps hide a lot. They also looked far better with white pants than pewter. They're not great by any means and are a downgrade, but I don't puke when I see them in action like I thought I would. Those numbers though...
