2014 MLB Season Thread

I was originally going to include that, but there's two reasons I didn't:

1) It would seem extremely sour grapes to complain about Teixeira when the Yankees did win a World Series thanks in a significant part to Teixeira's 2009 season. He's sucked ass since then, but, well, that old "flags fly forever" thing springs to mind here.

2) The Yankees had already given up their pick when they signed Sabathia, and I can't guarantee that Trout still falls to the Yankees if the Brewers hold that pick (along with the teams between the Brewers and Yankees) instead of the Angels.

Oh, and uninformed Yankee fans complain all over the place about how Teixeira cost them Trout, and I have a shockingly low tolerance for ignorance.

First game today at the new Cubs Park at Mesa Riverview. The Cubs knocked it outta the park with their new Spring training field. It's amazing what a measley $99 million in public funds can build :P

They set a new single game Cactus League attendance record with 14,486.

Yeah as a Dodgers, I'm hoping these negotiations fall apart badly because I'd feel like the dodgers would have a great shot at him by the time his deal expires, but with him being from New Jersey, I'd rather see the angles keep him than sign with the Yankees.

He is from South Jersey so he is a Phillies fan. I don't think he would ever go to the Yankees but sometimes money talks.

He may be from South Jersey (and an Eagles fan), but he's a Yankees fan.

I've heard he was a Phillies fan, but Jeter was his favorite player.

All things being equal, if I'm about to sign the kind of contract that he's going to get, and there are offers from an LA team, Philadelphia, Boston, NY, I'm probably choosing LA or NY, because in LA, if you fail to live up to your contract, it's a little easier to go along your daily business without constant harassment and eventually disappear into obscurity, while in NY, you know that they will constantly do whatever it takes to put people around you to give you the best chance for success, and if it doesn't work out, they'll eat your money and move you to somewhere else where you can fade into obscurity. Unless you have a lot of confidence both in yourself and the organization, I don't care who your favorite team is, I would think twice about Boston or Philadelphia. You're going to get shat on, and (more so with Philadelphia's current GM, less so with Boston) there's no guarantee that you're going to constantly be given the players you need around you to succeed, even though the money is unlimited.

The Jays will be better.

That's all I got for now.

I don't see it. They failed to make any significant upgrades to the most disappointing team in the league besides jettisonning Arencibia. Their rotation is worse and Ryan Goins is STARTING. They're relying too much on luck and health because they lack depth. Not sure what Anthopoulos was doing all offseason besides twiddling his thumbs.

Well being better than last year means they only need to win 75 games. I think they're thinking there's no possible way they have as many injuries to their starting rotation as they had last year.
Yep. Pretty much everything that could've gone wrong last year did. Our two worst full-time players - Arencibia and Johnson - are gone, and I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a team with Bautista/Reyes/Lind/Encarnacion in the lineup to pull off at least 75 wins. Unless everybody gets injured or struggles mightily again, I don't think a .500 record is too much to expect.

I've been studying my a** for my fantasy baseball league I do with my friends. Definitely gets you excited for baseball season.

Anybody got any predictions on how the AL East will look this year? I feel like all 5 teams have a good shot at making a decent playoff run. Orioles and Blue Jays filled their holes, Rays have the best opening day roster since their world series run, Red Sox are looking at repeating, and you can never count the Yankees out of the hunt.

Honestly, predicting this division is impossible to me. I feel like any of these 5 teams can place anywhere in their respective division. It's really going to come down to divisional play.

I went to 4 Rays Vs Blue Jays games last year and hope to go to a few more this year. Blue Jays are a fun team to watch and I don't have to deal with heckling fans... Toronto fans are seemingly nice... a little too nice.

Ryan Braun says, “If I perform like I’ve always done, I’ll be one of the best players in this game. I don’t need any added motivation of drama at work. I’ll just let my work speak for itself, as every artist should.”
