Oilers have to do SOMETHING. If Ekblad is gone, trade down for a solid d-man. But you can't have the young talent they have and waste another year struggling.

Nurse and Ekblad would look superb side-by-side on the blue line.

Yeah, that about sums up what the Sabres are doing. Are we expecting the Isles to be giving Buffalo the 5th this year?

And There`s Florida`s redemption from last year`s draft...except this aint no MacKinnon.

Florida won't trade away the pick. They need the publicity. Edmonton could look into getting Yandle from Phoenix for their third, but he doesn't solve their dearth of stay-at-home defensemen.

If you're an HFBoards Oilers fan, I'm sure all it will take to acquire Keith Yandle is Sam Gagner and a 4th.

Who are some good, established stay-at-home defensemen who might be on the market? I don't think Brent Seabrook will be, to the chagrin of his growing legion of detractors. I wanted to see Jason Garrison wind up with the Oil, but he landed a bit to the west. Zbynek Michalek is getting a little old. Francois Beauchemin?

Dan Boyle is a UFA after this year, although at the conclusion of his career, his veteran leadership and defensive presence would greatly benefit them. Brooks Orpik is also a UFA. He'd certainly look good in blue and orange. Looking ahead to next season and possible trade possiblities, Marc Staal is the first name that comes to my mind. They'd be able to handle his cap hit for that season, at just under 4 million, but moving forward I'd assume he'd ask for more.

Don't know how much you'd consider him a stay-at-home defenseman, but once he's healthy, I can only assume the Bruins will be looking to deal Adam McQuaid. With the emergence of Kevan Miller, there just isn't any room left for him on the Boston blueline.

You want a solid stay at home defenseman that will elevate his partners? Willie Mitchell. He made both Doughty and Voynov better players and they will both admit that. I don't see him leaving the Kings, but if anyone could take him from the Kings, that would be a huge loss. He's a joy to watch play.

I'd be happy with Niskanen. Put him with Ference and you've got a shutdown pair.

That's not a shutdown pair at all, unless you're talking of shutting down Edmonton being competitive. That's a middling at best second pair.

Have to feel for the Sabres, with how much separation they had from the rest of the pack it was clear they were the worst team this season. Hopefully this latets batch of young players are the ones that make the Panthers competitive regularly.

I'm honestly not too beat up about the Sabres picking second. If this were next year, it would be a different story, but I feel like the top two or three this year are pretty close to each other. We desperately need offense, but if we get Ekblad, we should have a pretty killer defense corps in a few years.

Interesting, (for me anyways.) Knowing how things in Ottawa go, if this does happen, Stewart'll be either a MacArthur or Cheechoo kind of addition to the Sens.

Miss you too, Tim. I strongly believe that the trade Tim's alluding to is for Chris Stewart, who was linked to Ottawa all year, and who Buffalo acquired in the Ryan Miller deal for the apparent purpose to flip him for something else. Around the same time, Rochester native Shane Prince was disgruntled and was rumoured to want to go to Buffalo. We'll see what happens down the line.
