What's Your Uniform Demographic: Traditional vs. Modern

Recommended Posts

I have been on the boards since 2005, and I've noticed, as time goes on, that I'm more in the minority every year. I've never considered myself that old fashioned until now, and I wonder if my age has anything to do with my uniform preferences. I'm curious to see if there's a correlation between age, music preference, overall demographic, and choice of uniforms. Just a little experiment. Here's my basic info, and let's see if you put yours down too, we can compare info.

Age: 33

Music Preferences: Rock (Aerosmith, Metallica, Van Halen, etc.), 90s hip hop, Coldplay, Kings of Leon, Mumford and Sons, Carlos Vives (my girlfriend is Colombian so I listen to some of that music), Eminem, U2, etc.

Music Dislikes: EDM (Electronic Dance Music), don't really dislike country but not a big fan either, Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus, etc.

Clothing Preferences: Classic (T-shirt and jeans, polo and shorts with boat shoes, or suit if needed)

Sports Uniform Preferences: Classic (Green Bay Packers, Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago Blackhawks, Chicago Cubs, Florida Gators, Wisconsin Badgers, Seattle Mariners, Montreal Canadiens, Miami Heat, Dallas Cowboys, etc.)

Sports Uniform Dislikes: Wild (Miami Marlins, Jacksonville Jaguars, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Oklahoma City Thunder, Oregon Ducks, etc.)

"Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be eaten. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve. It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle. When the sun comes up, you'd better be running." - Unknown | 🌐 Check out my articles on jerseys at Bacon Sports 🔗

Music Preferences: Classic Rock (Black Sabbath, Roy Orbison, The Rolling Stones, etc.), New Wave of British Heavy Metal, early post-punk/New Wave, 1980's synth pop, almost any era of the Bee Gees, Todd Rundgren, Genesis (both Gabriel and Collins), Queen, etc.

Music Dislikes: any rap after the mid-90's (with some exceptions), not all that into country and its variants, later thrash metal, Disney pop stars, etc.

Clothing Preferences: Mishmash of hipster and classic: T-shirt/flannel shirt with skinny jeans (I don't like regular fit jeans) and Converse sneakers/flip-flops, T-shirt and shorts w/ flip-flops, suit if needed, leather jacket and wool hat/baseball cap if it's chilly/windy.

Sports Uniform Preferences: Classics (Green Bay Packers, Boston Celtics, San Francisco Giants, Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago Blackhawks, St. Louis Cardinals, Stanford Cardinal, Montreal Canadiens, San Antonio Spurs, New York Giants, etc.)

Update to classic/tasteful modernity (Minnesota Vikings, Miami Heat, Los Angeles Lakers, Golden State Warriors, Toronto Blue Jays, Seattle Mariners, etc.)

Sports Uniform Dislikes: Bland for no good reason: (New Orleans Pelicans, Miami Dolphins, Oklahoma City Thunder, Tampa Bay Lightning, etc.)

Color schemes that have black/navy blue in them but don't need them: (Miami Marlins, Cincinnati Reds, Calgary Flames, formerly the New York Mets and Knicks, Atlanta Hawks, etc.)

Too messy: (Tampa Bay Buccaneers, any of the initial Edge uniforms, Atlanta Hawks, etc.)

Age: 49 pushing 50

Music Preferences: Contemporary Christian, 80s, Elvis, Johnny Cash, the Beatles before they became psychadelic

Music Dislikes: Rap, songs from any era about romance gone bad, "pop tarts" like Brittney Spears and Katy Perry

Clothing Preference: Pullover shirt or turtleneck with khakis. I tend to wear jeans or shorts on the weekends. I like to bring out the coat and tie for special occasions like job interviews or church on Easter.

Sports Uniform Preferences: The "classic look" to include teams like the Cowboys, Redskins, Colts, Steelers, Packers, Yankees, Red Sox, Braves, Alabama(NCAAF), Penn State (NCAAF), Duke (NCAAMBBK); throwbacks like the Buccaneers, A's of the 70s, and Rams; powder blue in MLB; color-on-color matchups in any sport; blazers worn by umps other than the guy behind home plate in cool/cold weather.

Sports Uniform Dislikes: Batting practice jerseys, pink every Sunday during October in the NFL, Oregon(NCAAF), football uniforms like Maryland and the U that resemble a full-body tattoo rather than a traditional college football uniform, hoodies instead of windbreakers in MLB dugouts, championship T-shirts worn post-game instead of regular attire..

The Marlins have always had black as a part of their uniforms, they just chose to make it the primary color. Nothing wrong with that, except for the fact that it's black and you're playing in an outdoor stadium where the average temperature is high 80's with 80% humidity, which makes having black as your primary color a monumentally stupid choice. But that is about weather conditions, not uniform aesthetics.

What precisely is 'wild' about the Thunder's uniforms? They are some of the most boring and bland in all of sports. I want lightning bolts dammit!!

Age: 24, a week away from 25
Music Preferences: Classic Rock, Metal, some Electronic stuff, Videogame soundtracks, J-Pop and J-Rock Anime soundtracks

Music Dislikes: Most urban stuff (especially Grime), Britpop, Indie, any pop song that's played over and over again all Goddamn year long

Clothing Preference: Simple t-shirt and jeans combination, and a normal cap that isn't one one of those trendy boxy, flat-brimmed things

Uniform Preferences: I can like just about anything that looks good. I don't mind if it's traditional or modern, as long as a team's identity is visually distinctive without going overboard. I'd say I lean more towards classic as it's a tried-and-true formula that we know (usually) works.

Uniform Dislikes: Soulless minimalism to the point where the team's uniform is bland compared to just about everyone else they play against. Wordmarks as primary logos. Reebok Edge click-and-fill templates. Stupid ideas thrown in for the sake of it. Sponsor logos taking priority over team branding. The football/soccer (and British ice hockey) mentality of "let's replace our uniform every year and throw together a mish-mash of feces because people are going to buy it again anyway".

Music Preferences: Country and some Christian music (Newsboys, little bit of Matt Redman, etc.)

Music Dislikes: Heavy Metal, most pop music, rap

Clothing Preference: T-Shirt, but for some reason I can't stand wearing a shirt with nothing on it; Wranglers/Levi's jeans, and a hoodie usually from late October-Early March

Uniform Preferences: Most Nike designs. I do like some of the traditional stuff like Ohio State but I like their "Rivalry" sets, which I consider to be traditional with a modern twist.

Uniform Dislikes: Basically anything created by Adidas. Need I say more?

Music Preferences: Metalcore (We Came As Romans, Blessthefall, The Color Morale, The Word Alive, etc.), Alternative Rock (Imagine Dragons, Grouplove, Passion Pit, etc.), Some rap (RIP Tupac)

Music Dislikes: Not a huge country fan, and R&B is a hit or miss with me, mostly a miss.

Clothing Preferences: T-shirt and jeans (slim fit, not skinny...there's a difference lol), low profile Nike shoes, fitted hat

Sports Uniform Preferences: I can't really pinpoint my preference to a certain style or era, but I tend to like the classic, simplistic uniforms the best (Kansas City Chiefs/Royals, Green Bay Packers, Boston Celtics/Red Sox). However, there's quite a few modern uniforms I like as well, and prefer over their classic versions (Minnesota Vikings, Oregon State Beavers, Ohio State Rivalry uniforms, Seattle Seahawks etc.)

Sports Uniform Dislikes: Chrome helmets, GFGS, BFBS, gradient numbers, team name on pants (would rather have a stripe or nothing at all), the new adidas tire tread template, and the trend of companies (Nike and adidas) outfitting a handful of teams in identical uniforms, i.e. the March Madness jerseys. The school is turned into a cookie cutter program instead of having a unique uniform for the biggest event of the year. There's plenty more, but I'll leave it at that.

Age: 23

Music Preferences: Country (More specifically Red Dirt Music, but some of the mainstream stuff is pretty good), Alternative Rock, Classic Rock, 90's alternative, Bluegrass/Folk

Music Dislikes: Hardcore rap and screamo. I was gonna put heavy metal but I actually like it as long as no one's screaming in my ear.

Clothing Preference: Usually just a t-shirt and jeans. Throw in a henley every now and then. Nice pair of shorts in the summer. And a flannel when the occassion's right. Used to be a big fan of hoodies in high school, but now I'm all about zip-ups and noodies.

Uniform Preferences: I prefer a more traditional look most likely because most of my favorite teams dress in traditional garb. That being said, I like the Seahawks' look and a few other modern sets.

Uniform Dislikes: Giving up the sake of tradition for something flashy and gimmicky. Actually just gimmicky in general is a no-no for me.

Music Preferences: I dig some heavy metal (Metallica, Megadeth) among other stuff like Muse, The Killers, Queen, Pink Floyd, Queens Of The Stone Age, Meat Loaf, Fair To Midland, Dredg, The Kindred, The Mission I'm sure theres other bands I love listening to but I can get into stuff whether its from the 70s or now if its mostly rock oriented or synth stuff like 80s stuff.

Music Dislikes: Rap for sure, there may be like rare exceptions like run dmc, but yea for the most part also hip hop and hip hop inspired pop crap, most of this very bland pop crap that I hear (Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Pink, it all sounds so ****** bland), stuff that is clearly only made just for the radio.

Clothing Preference: Jeans and a Tshirt with sneakers, if I wear a hat its usually a phillies or flyers hat, I prefer my hats to be like 47 brand or the 3930 style, I find the 5990 style to look dumb on me now.

Sports Uniform Preferences: I guess classic for the most part when it still works like in baseball, Phillies, I like how the royals look. Hockey I preferred what the flyers wore in the 80s and 90s, canadians look the best imo. Football, well I like how the vikings look out of the recent uniforms, packers, bears, cheifs, panthers all have good uniforms.

Sports Uniforms Dislikes: I hate when they try to do classic stuff and it doesnt work or looks half-asses. 49ers sleeve stripes, knicks half stripes and so forth, just don't do it then. I also don't like stuff that looks too plain, the padres are either horribly bland or gaudy, the jaguars and buccaneers look like s***. I'm sure I could think of more.

Music Preferences: Rap, Hip Hop, alittle bit of country, and Rock

Music Dislikes: Heavy Metal, EDM

Clothing Preference: Shorts, T shirt, Sneakers, Snapback/59fifty all has to match and i wear all nike 90% of the time

Sports Uniform Preferences: I like classic uniforms, but i do like some modern ones if they aren't busy and wild

Sports Uniforms Dislikes: Retro uniforms for teams that are recent expansion teams, it just doesn't fit them. teams that try to copy Oregon and have 8 different versions of helmets, pants, jerseys ect. i don't like chrome helmets (Oregon gets a pass), and don't like matte helmets they look unfinished to me like someone forgot the clear coat.

Music Preferences: Modern Country, Classic Rock, Some "pop" songs but not many (follow me on Spotify, and you never know what you're going to see pop up)

Music Dislikes: Most rap (but not all), Techno, Heavy Metal

Clothing Preference: In the spring/summer, I'll be in a polo shirt (usually Nike or UA), soccer jersey, or t-shirt w/ jeans or khaki shorts, depending on the temps. In the fall/winter, it'll be long-sleeved tees and hoodies w/ jeans. Always lop-top Nikes or boat shoes. If I wear a hat, it's the '47 brand because their XXL is the only one that feels comfortable on my big melon.

Sports Uniform Preferences: If I think a look will last, I usually like it. Example: The Panthers' don't have a "classic" looking uniform, but I like how it has lasted almost 20 years and still looks relevant. The Bucs and Jaguars will just look silly in a few years. Basketball is my exception to the rule, where I don't mind pushing the boundaries, unless it hurts my eyes (see Adidas zebra stripes last year)

Music Preferences: Post-Hardcore, Metalcore, Pop-Punk, Some Electronic (Skrillex, Breathe Carolina), Some Rap (Childish Gambino).

Music Dislikes: Country

Clothing Preference: Athletic Shorts, Khaki Shorts/Pants, Slim-Fit Jeans, Long Sleeve Button Ups and School Spirited T-Shirts/Hoodies/track jackets, Variety of shoes besides boots and sandals

Sports Uniform Preferences: I try to judge uniforms based on its merits not the history of a team in that uniform.

Sports Uniforms Dislikes: Certain color combinations (blue and orange, red and yellow), gray uniforms, the incorporation of black into uniforms when it is not a color of the team.

Music Dislikes: Anything that is overplayed

Clothing Preference: Summer: Fitted, t-shirt or tank top, board shorts, Sperrys or Nikes Rest of year: Hoodie, jeans or track pants, Nikes

Sports Uniform Preferences: I like some modern stuff, but nothing beats classic looks

Sports Uniforms Dislikes: When teams switch from perfectly good looks to ugly :censored: (looking at you, Bucs)

Music Preferences: Hip hop mostly (Underground- not the crap they play on the radio); alternative rock (a lot of 90s rock)

Music Dislikes: Pop, country

Clothing Preference: Jeans and a T-shirt or hoodie with sneakers. Sometimes a fitted Tigers cap.

Sports Uniform Preferences: Classic/traditional (Tigers home, Yankees, Canadiens' set, Red Wings, Bruins, Green Bay Packers, KC Chiefs, etc.)

Sports Uniforms Dislikes: Teams that have the potential to be some of the nicest looking in their league, but go with the latest piping crazy garbage trend. (Avalanche, Blues)

Music Preferences: Favorite Band: New Order (my username), Country (Modern & Classic), Rock, Alternative, 90s, 80s, Electronic

Music Dislikes: Rap - Metal - Classical

Clothing Preferences: T-shirt and jeans, polo and shorts, Khakis with button-up shirt - I always wear sports shoes or dress shoes...no flip-flops for me.

I only really care about Football related uniforms, sometimes college basketball

Sports Uniform Preferences: Classic (Green Bay Packers, Kansas City Chiefs, LSU Tigers) Modern (Missouri Tigers, Oklahoma State Cowboys), colored facemasks, monochrome uniforms (pants must have striping)

Sports Uniform Dislikes: Grey facemasks on teams that do not use grey throughout their uniform (There are exceptions such as Alabama), Chrome (Helmets or Facemasks), Nike font designs.

It is funny, but when I joined this site in 2008 I was a modern uniform junkie, but as I have grown older, I am sick of the new trends and have a desire to see more traditional football uniforms. Even though I hate the new Dolphins logo, I believe their uniform is a nice touch between modern & traditional.

Music Preferences: The Doors, Deep Purple, George Clinton, Sly Stone, Betty Davis, Judas Priest, AC/DC, Dio, early Metallica, Outkast, Mos Def, A Tribe Called Quest, 2Pac, Common, Bo Diddley, Muddy Waters, Black Joe Lewis, Wolfmother... I could go on, but you should have a general idea of where I'm at.

Music Dislikes: Pop Country. I don't have a problem with older country like Johnny Cash or Willie Nelson, but "Today's Country" annoys the crap out of me... it's just terrible 80s rock music with fiddles and steel guitars. Also, dubstep... I like my music to sound like music, not robots having diarrhea.

Clothing Preference: Newsboy hats, button-down shirts in black or earthy colors, leather necklaces/bracelets, leather racing jackets, wide-leg jeans, timberland boots or casual (non-athletic) sneakers.

Sports Uniform Preferences/Dislikes: I like variety. What works for the Yankees, Packers, or Celtics isn't necessarily going to work for the Rays, Jaguars, or Thunder... and rightfully so. I want classic teams to have more classic looks, and more recent teams being more experimental and cutting edge.

Music Preferences: Typically country, but the new generation isn't very good, Classic Rock, whatever is catchy at the time

Music Dislikes: Not a fan of rap or anything just too awful

Clothing Preferences: t-shirts, athletic shorts, tennis shoes, high socks, always wearing a hat, golf polo when needed

Sports Uniform Preferences: Lifelong Auburn fan (and current student) so I'm pretty biased to the classic look. I think stripes are all but a must.

Sports Uniform Dislikes: Stupid stuff, crazy numbers (Tampa and Syracuse), and just doing something different to do it. I'm also a Jaguar fan, and I like our uniforms, but the helmet never grew on me like I thought it would.

Age 23

Music Preferences: depends on the week. Really on a Breathe Carolina and Twenty One Pilots kick right now. I love the previous generation of rap, Guys like Pac And Dre and Em (but not this new, mainsream Em)

Music Dislikes: Not a fan of real twangy country. Other than that I'm open to just about anything.

Clothing Preferences: West Coast style. Chinos and Chubbies. Ray Bans. Sperries.

Sports Uniform Preferences: As I said in a previous thread, I think Oklahoma's football uniforms are the greatest of all time. That said, I'm beginning to move to a more modern stance in football. Give me traditional in basketball, (Lakers) traditional in baseball (pinstripes are awesome, but I'll be damned if the A's don't have the best look in sports) and modern in hockey (Any of the California teams, take your pick).

Sports Uniform Dislikes: I can't stand VaTech's look. I've never rooted for them once and it's because of their uniforms. Ditto with the Timberwolves. In the NFL, I don't much care for the Titans or Steelers. I hate Carolina's silver helmet, I think the Old School Bucs and 80's era Broncos were the two worst looks in the NFL ever, and in the NHL I honestly don't think there is such a thing as an ugly sweater.

Age: 17.

Music Preferences: All over the place. Anything from rap to "indie" rock, to country.

Music Dislikes: 90% of the songs on the radio.

Clothing Preferences: Hoodies, t-shirts, jeans, khakis, crewneck sweaters, windbreakers, sweats.

Sports Uniform Preferences: As a whole, classic uniforms are generally solid. Some retros, solid color concepts.

Baseball: Classic uniforms, pinstripes, script logos (some exceptions), Jays away, DBacks retros, Astros BP.

Basketball: Most retros (Raptors purple, Heat, Hawks, Bucks, Lakers, Sonics [red/green], Suns, Bulls, Jazz), Brooklyn, LA Clippers (red, navy, baby blue), Bulls (black especially), NYK.

Hockey: Anaheim retros, Bruins thirds, Colombus' thirds, Original Six teams, and most alternates.

Football: Falcons retros, Chicago Bears dark, Dallas' alternate, Detroit, Green Bay, Indianapolis, Miami, Minnesota, New Orleans, Oakland.

College: Classics (USC, Texas, the OSU, Florida, Arkansas, Auburn, Oklahoma) , modern updates (Cal), all whites (Oregon's), UCLA's light blues, Stanford, West Virigina's all blues, Arizonia minus the gradient numbers, Oregon State, LSU, Indiana, Illinois, Northwestern, Washington.

Sports Uniform Dislikes: Overly busy, ridiculous color combinations, more than 3 colours that aren't black and white on a uniform, NFL collars that are cut off.

Baseball: Astros new jerseys. So much potential for a good look, yet, ya blew it! Orange uniforms (looking at you, Baltimore and Miami), two-toned BP jerseys.

Basketball: Vertical piping (Indiana), Trail Blazers, OKC, Houston, Dallas.

Hockey: Anything from the Sabres, Flames third, Carolina.

Football: Houston, Carolina, and St. Louis' striping style, any Ravens jersey that isn't purple.

College: UConn, Southern Miss, Western Kentucky, Miami (Ohio), bland uniforms.
