More great clean ups! And I'm a sucker for the Clechee Cross, so I'm really anticipating Langudoc-Roussillon :)

The Clechee Cross (I call it Occitan cross, I didn't know the proper name ^^) is set to appear on every occitan region ;)

So I've kind of wandered around wondering what could I do more for my regions, and I figured out I could work on our boring ID cards we got. I got the same template, and here are the ID of the regions I've already submitted.

I think Bourbonnais could at least afford to keep the Fleur-de-lis. Assuming it isn't being reserved for Ile de France.

Not much to say about Brittany. The flag the region has already works. No point in messing with perfection. Using the recoloured Saint-André Cross for Burgundy is a pretty cool solution if using Royalist emblems is off the table.

Thanks for understanding the point here, to answer rams80 at the same time: the FDL is a royalist emblem, not gonna be used on here, sorry.

Concerning Brittany's flag, I hesitated working a little on it, because I've always been bothered by the fact that the number of Hermine - the heraldic in the white square - don't represent anything. It's actually just a random number, or aesthetic choice.

So glad to see Northern Catalan separated and shown some love. No one ever listens to me when I tell them its a French thing too. Probably my favourite place in France as well.

Also glad to see Corsica stay the same, it has a unique identity that is already familiar to those that pay attention to European matters.

Would you consider any of the regions in France as having rugby league (le rugby Ă  treize) as it's regional sport? I thought maybe Comtat Venaissin, having Avignon, Carpentras and Cavaillon within it, could be one? Or has the game dwindled down to a very small level in France now?

Rugby league is really in the shadow of Rugby Union in France. I've never seen any XIII Rugby on TV besides sports channels (and it's often the Australian championship), contrary to XV Rugby, which is growing ferouciously since 2009 outside of Southern France.

Just by looking at average attendances, you can tell Rugby Union is far more followed in France than Rugby League.

RĂ©gion Ile de France

280px-%C3%8Ele-de-France_region_locator_

(modern Region, you will note on the right side of the plate that the province is roughly tighter, but I couldn't find a proper french map with the province outline)

Name: Ile de France

English name: Isle of France

Demonym: Francisler

Under French Kingdom authority since 10th Century (institutionalization of the French Kingdom)

Region of France since 1789.

Capital city: Paris (formerly Versailles, until 1789 and the downfall of the Kingdom)

Regional symbol: Tricolor Cockade

Regional colors: Blue White Red

Regional sport: Association Football

Most popular sport team: Paris Saint-Germain FC (Association football, 4-times french league winner, 10-times french cup winner and currently in Top 5 richest clubs in the world, thanks to Qatari investors)

Famous people from the region: So many people. From actor Jean Dujardin, actress Marion Cottillard, early 20th century singer Edith Piaf, filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard, writer Alexandre Dumas,...

1406740844-ile-de-france-flags.png

After the Revolution, it was decided to withdraw the Fleur de Lys from every governmental representation, including flags. Therefore, the region adopted the Tricolor Cockade as their symbol: this cockade was worn by the leaders of the French Revolution which led to the Kingdom's downfall and which originated and ended in Paris.

250px-Languedoc.png

Name: Languedoc

English name: Langdoc

Demonym: Langdocian

Regional Language: Occitan

Occitan name: LengadĂ²c

Under French Kingdom authority since 1271.

Region of France since 1789.

Capital city: Toulouse

Regional symbol: The Seven-Pointed Star (Felibrige)

Regional colors: Red Yellow

Regional sport: Rugby Union (formerly Rugby League, but it has widely lost its prestige)

Most popular sport team: Stade Toulousain (Most successful Rugby Union team in France, with 19 french league titles, and 4 European Cup wins)

Famous people from the region: Molière (although born in Paris, Ile de France, he spent the vast majority of his life in Languedoc) ; Georges Brassens (XXth century singer)

1406740845-languedoc-drapeaux.png

Though the province didn't have an official flag, the old Occitan flag (left) was often used to represent it. The modern flag of Occitania features a seven-pointed star on the upper right corner representing the seven cultural areas and dialects of the nation, but it was decided not to use it on the flag of Languedoc, to differentiate the region from the nation of Occitania. Instead, the flag features 4 yellow stripes and 3 red stripes, replacing the seven-pointed star.

yes Languedoc!!! Looks great!

IDF looks really different, but I guess its best to let the Red/White/Blue to take centre stage since it's the capital region. I still can't get curling out of my head though lol
