Modernizing the Bundesliga: Borussia Dortmund Away added

I thought this would be cool to do because a lot of the league is a bit boring (at least in my eyes). I tried to get more inspiration into these and go outside of determining to use either stripes or hoops. I will not be doing much to the crests. I will just add stars above them for B-Liga Championships.

BAYER 04 LEVERKUSEN HOME

They have won 0 league championships so far so the crest goes untouched.

This is a look at their latest home kit.

My Comments On this:

This is pretty good. I think it could use a little more inspiration though.

My design stays simple while changing things up to make it unique.

All inspiration is mention below.

added white trim just for looks

The sublimated "T" is based off the famous Bayer "cross" as seen in the crest

the 04 in the numbers is the founding date of 1904.

C&C Welcome

away and clash coming

I think its rather uninspired. Whats the story behind the T watermark on the shirt?

Just my 2 cents...but I don't really see how this is "modernizing" Leverkusen's look. I think they already had a pretty modern look with the sublimated hoops. I understand the sublimated "T"...but I think it would be more effective if you actually used the "T" from the crest and sublimated that instead of just solid lines.

I love the addition of the white, but other than that, it's boring. The cross is barely even visible, I'd fix it to make it much more visible. I'm not really a fan of the "04" in the numbers, I'd rather see the club logo. I do like the hoops on the current kit, but I think your cross idea could be pretty unique if it's executed a bit better. Great start, but with a few small improvements you'll have a stellar kit.

Leverkusen's just such a tough team to design for—I almost associate the lack of an identity with them more than anything else. Honestly, I think you choose a poor team with which to start—it's not a bad concept by any stretch of the imagination—it's actually nice, clean, and crisp—but it just goes to show how tough designing for the Werkself really can be.

Definitely looking forward to what you do with some of the other clubs in the Bundesliga.

Minor update includes:

The crest is now in the numbers

Edited placing of name and number on back

The T/Cross is more visible

Better. I would move the crest down a bit or thicken the crossbar so that the crest is fully inside the "T". Maybe it's just my OCD coming out, but it drives me crazy when things aren't centered in instances like this. Also I think that the numbers on the back could be a tad bigger also. One final suggestion....stay away from using a number with "1" in it. Go with something that has 2 wide numbers (20,22,etc). I find that it just makes sizing and placement of the numbers easier.

You could also probably thicken the stripe across the shoulders on the back to make it a bit more prominent. Is that white piping I see going down the crest side of the shirt? Is that intentional? If so, it's applied to the wrong side on the back view.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen away kit

To me, the most important thing to do with this team was to establish some consistency. There is none now.

Bayer Kit history: http://www.oldfootballshirts.com/en/teams/b/bayer-04-leverkusen/old-bayer-04-leverkusen-football-shirts-t552.html

I saw several blue away kits so I wanted to bring them back. Here is the latest away kit:

bayeraway.jpg

even if this is a good looking jersey, this continues the complete inconsistency of their look. I brought back some of the team's past to establish some tradition like your average 110 year old team would have.

this is just a simple blue jersey as it should be based off several past kits

That number font just isn't doing it for me, its a combination of it seeming really squished vertically and the fact that I just don't like it. Do like the addition of the blue kit though!

Eh. I think its pretty lazy in soccer design terms that the away is just a reverse of the home without the cross.

The home is ok, but I think the cross makes it better.

I do echo Chris when I say that the number font isn't that good. Blocky aren't very popular in soccer currently (Yes I know that the US wore them, but if you look at most of the other teams they were more rounded fonts, just using this as an example). So I'd use a different font entirely.

Also I think it helps if you post all of the kits together in one post. Say if you get enough replies that it pushes the next away kit onto the next page it will be harder to view the kits in one look, which is a better presentation IMO.

For the record I don't mind block fonts for soccer kits, just don't like the particular block font you've chosen. I think Conrad has a don't called "straight block" that Berlin Wall utilized in his B-logo design that I loved.

No I was just echoing what you said about the font not being good. I was elaborating with with examples.

As for that font particular (straight block) I loved it too. Especially with Berlin Wall's Belgium (I think it was Belgium anyway) league series. It looked good for every team. The font that the Dutch used in the WC was also blocky but that looked pretty good too. So I think that they can work, just not here was what I was saying. Sorry for the confusion.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen Clash Kit

The number issue has no clear answer so I am moving on and I may come back. Here is the current clash kit

bayer3.png

This one is worst of all the currents and the green only makes the lack of identity worse. I wanted to something like this jersey worn in the late 90's and early 2000's

bayerold.jpg

The problems with this are the green and the Grandpa's golf shirt look. Since the current black away kit looked pretty darn good, I came to this.

B04_Lclash1_0_page_001.jpg

I will be going on to Bayern Munich next, which should be easier.
