Recently I was scrolling through twitter and came across a design from a local sports apparel manufacturer in London, a previous employer of mine actually. They had made an anniversary logo for a Men's baseball league in the city that contains a skyline of London. I work for our local Junior B hockey team, the London Nationals. I designed our 2016 playoff shirt with a skyline of London along the top. The company that prints our shirts is actually Source For Sports. I had noticed they had taken part of the skyline i designed and slapped it onto the baseball logo.

 

The unfortunate part was that Source For Sports needed the .AI file sent to them, so they just copied the vector design and used it for their own use. 

 

I have attached the 2 designs. Mine is on the left, theirs is on the right. 

 

What does everyone think of this? Would I have a case here?

Unfortunately, the Toronto Maple Leafs may themselves have a case against you, or the team, or whoever started using that white leaf logo first.

 

Personally, I'd take you to court over that apostrophe catastrophe. 

 

But yes, that's clearly lifted.  You might well consult a lawyer, see if there's anything to be done.

Yeesh, how hard would it have been to create their own skyline, it's not like those are complicated shapes.  As for the lifting, it is certainly blatant enough to warrant a case.

The team formed back in 1950 and was an affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs, back when NHL clubs sponsored Junior A teams. Thats why the team uses the Maple Leafs logo. Im not too sure what permissions we have, I haven't been told.

 

I am building my case and covering all of my work as much as possible, then I am going to take action.

A lot of these designs are stolen. Some I noticed right away as Geeky Jersey designs. Others I've seen are a lot of those NFL logos reimagined as Star Wars designs and such. I asked Geeky Jerseys (as well as Dave's Geeky Hockey on twitter), and was told they are trying to sort it out.

That site is full of images from this forum. I just searched my username in their site and it came up with images from threads I've posted in.

Everything on there is a copyright violation.

Not to offend the original creators of those concepts, but...  who would buy them?  I mean, the artwork is solid, but I just don't see a big market for printing and framing some random graphic designer's idea of a sports team concept.  Setting aside my design inclinations for a moment, as purely a sports fan I would rather buy a poster of my favorite player (see: photograph) or maybe something that showed the history of my team's uniforms.

 

These guys all seem like some 6th grader who figured out how to open a simple eStore (all the websites are cookie cutter) and they just post random Google Image results that apparently, people will pay $5 for.  If you're that hard up for a printed image of a concept, why not just download it and head to the UPS Store yourself?

Agreed. Chances are that most everything "available" on that site for purchase has never once been purchased.

Didn't try to report anything, but the page worked for me. For the lolz.
