The Pointless Realignment Outpost

Recommended Posts

I was reading an article on how the Reno Aces had to travel to Nashville then to Salt Lake City. The distances involved were rather much for a junior circuit, IMO, so I'm bringing back the American Association. If a team isn't in the new AA, they're in the same league as they are now.

American Association III

Western Division

Iowa Cubs

Omaha Storm Chasers

New Orleans Zephyrs

Round Rock Express

Oklahoma Redhawks

Eastern Division

Nashville Sounds

Louisville Bats

Memphis Redbirds

Buffalo Bisons

Indianapolis Indians

The Triple-A All Star Game goes back to AL farm clubs vs. NL farm clubs. As for the playoffs, I like the AAA Championship Game, so we'll have a Championship Weekend. The AAA champion with the best record (We'll say the IL's Lehigh Valley in this scenario) gets a bye, and the other two teams (the AA's Louisville and PCL's Las Vegas) have a play-in game on Friday. Winner of the play-in game gets the Ironpigs on Sunday.

I actually kind of like this. There's nothing here that I'd be against seeing. The AAC would probably be better off splitting into an east and west conference on their own, though.

I would completely overhaul the entire American Soccer Pyramid to make it more similar to the rest of the world but still keep American aspects of sports, like all star games, awards, playoffs, ect. My ideas are scattered but I got all of them out...

Each team will play each other team once for a total of 58 games, one home and one away. Games are played on Wednesdays and Fridays. The top 8 teams will enter a 3 round tournament of single elimination. The teams are seeded by regular season points. The final 4 will move up while the worst 4 will relegate. Ties can be broken in a 1 game playoff. Playoffs are played on Saturdays. 3 points for a win, 1 for a tie, 0 for a loss. There are no divisions and no conferences within the individual leagues. During the playing season from August to the end of June. (44 weeks) teams may not play MLS teams from other tiers. The first 41 weeks are to play the league games, the final 3 weeks are for the 8 team playoffs. The offseason is 8 weeks longs at a minimum and 11 weeks at a maximum. The transfer window is 11 weeks long. Interleague(MLS1 vs MLS2) play is considered a friendly and must be played in the offseason. The preseason/endseason transfer window is from July1-august 31. The midseason transfer window is January 1 to February 2. All games are televised. ESPN televises Wednesday games for MLS 1 and NBC and Fox split Saturday Games for MLS 1. MLS1 and MLS 2 playoffs are televised on ESPN. All remaining games are televised on MLS network. The HQ is in New York, New York. There are also branches in, San Fransico, Atlanta, and Detroit. The transfer window has no restrictions, there is no player minimum salary, no maximum salary, no salary cap, no roster maximum, and no roster minimum. There is no player draft or selection process. Teams may, scout players and sign them whenever. Free agents can sign at any point and play instantly. Transfers/trades can only occur in the transfer window. Teams can become affiliates with other MLS clubs, the affiliate will be then relegated to league 5 and will none able to promote. If they finish in the top 4 their promotion will be given to the 5th. Affiliate clubs can transfer players only during the allowed transfer window, even to its main affiliate. The league has no age restrictions and no limit on coaching staff. There must be one and only one "head coach" listed on the roster or the team will forfeit all matches without. The top 4 MLS1 teams earn a spot in the CONCAF Gold Cup. Each league awards 2 trophies, one for regular season champion and one for play off champion. The only exception to playing inter league during the regular season or playoff period is the US Cup or the Canadian Cup. All Canadian teams earn a spot in the Canadian Cup and the top 64 American MLS teams earn a spot in the US Cup. MLS 1 is sponsored by Adidas for balls while every other league uses Nike. Jerseys are up to individual club sponsorships and boots are up to individual players. The net is 22x8 and the pitch must be 110x70. The pitch can be real or artificial, domed or outside. The pitch must be green with only soccer lines visible. Players can be cut at any time, making them free agents. Teams can have a board or a owner but not a membership. There is one MLS commissioner, but one co-commissioner per league. The seeding of the playoffs are determined from regular season points. Each team is allowed as many sponsers as wanted, there can only be one sponsor per kit. Home kits are light colored, away kits are dark. A team can have a max of 5 total kits, 2 mandatory and 3 optional alternates. Each kit can have a different sponsor or no sponsors. On the sleeves there must be a patch of the league the club is sporting, "MLS 1" ex. For holidays and playoffs the kit will sport a patch on the back under the collar. Each teams crest must be present on the left chest. Sponsors on the jerseys can vary in size but must be on the front of the kit. Shorts also must sport the team crest on the either side of the leg. Socks, shorts, and kits must be all the same color. If the kit is checkered/striped/designed the shorts and socks must match the main color. Players can wear headbands and concussion guard but no hats. Socks can be striped and checkered as long the main color is the same. Socks must have the teams crest on the front of the socks on the shin or on the back on the calf. MLS 1 stadiums must seat 20,000. MLS 2 stadiums must seat 5,000. All other stadiums must seat 1,000. If a team doesn't have sufficient ownership, funds, or stadium, the team will be fined/ suspended/ or the team will be sold to a new owner. Teams can play in football stadiums or soccer specific stadiums. There is an exception to the MLS1 stadium rule, a team can play in 5,000 seat stadium of they present a plan to build a new 20,000 seat stadium within 2 years. Teams get 3 subs per game and 9 for friendlies. At the end of the MLS1 season there is an All-star Game. The all star game is selected by the MLS 1 coaches from the previous season, only MLS1 players are eligible. Even if a team is relegated, the player is still eligible for the all-star game. The all-star game is hosted in Honolulu Hawaii every year. Each team has 14 players. They are coached by the coaches who coached in the MLS finals. After the 28 player pool is selected the two coaches draft their teams behind closed doors. Every player selected must play in the game. At the end of each year each league awards, MVP, Rookie of the year, coach of the year, team with most attendance, best defender, golden gloves, and golden boot( highest goals+assists). There are 17 Canadian Teams, one Puerto Rican team, and the rest are mainland American. All merchandise is split within the league. Team names, owner sales, city movement, and other large changes must be confirmed by the co-commissioner for the designated league and the overall MLS commissioner. Teams can loan, sell, release/cut, sign, buy, trade, and have tryouts in the offseason with no restrictions and during the transfer period. During the season teams may only cut/release players and sign players. Before each game the playing of American national anthem and the Canadian national anthem is required. If a team is deemed unfit to e promoted there promotion will be given to the next highest team. There are no waivers or waiver order, a free player is free available to all and any. Team training can start and end at any point throughout the season. Games would be scheduled as soon as all playoff series are over and leagues are realigned. After the end of each season each league will release an all- team. A voted best player at every position by all coaches in the league. Players tied will get a revote until the tie is broken.
Most are real teams, just moved. "////" indicates that the team name is unknown but I chose the city. Feel free to comment changes and ask questions.

The beauty of the promotion/relegation system is really lost if teams can't be promoted based on the standards set by the league. And this is why a pro/rel system won't be put in place until at least 15 teams under the MLS are in the financial position to succeed in the MLS.

Greetings everyone. I was wondering. I just created my "dream conference" style of "super-conferences". For instance:

ACC (16)

ACC North: Boston College, Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Louisville, Maryland, Virginia, Virginia Tech

Your thoughts guys?

I had something similar to this last year:

  • The PAC 16, B1G, SEC, and ACC are the "Big Four", each with 16 schools. The remaining schools in the other conferences see this and know that they'd have to do something to try to compete. So the C-USA, American, MAC, Mountain West, Sun Belt, and the Independents all form 4 conferences of 16 teams themselves.
  • The American Athletic Conference decides to become somewhat of a mini-NFL, creating one 2 conference league with 16 teams and 4 divisions. Of course, the NCAA rejected the idea, so instead, the AAC split into two conferences to represent the east and west. This would spawn the U.S. Athletic Conferences (E.U.S.A.C & W.U.S.A.C.) taking what is in the AAC and some of the remaining schools. The Mountain West basically becomes the W.U.S.A.C. and C-USA mostly making up the E.U.S.A.C.
  • With a few FCS schools moving up, it made it possible for the Sun Belt and MAC to have 16 schools in the conference as well. The MAC became the "Rust Belt Conference", as an opposite to the Sun Belt.
  • At the time, the College Football Playoff was expanded to 6 schools with consideration of making it an 8-team playoff. Seeing how there were now 8 "Super Conferences", it made sense to have 8 teams in a playoff, but the NCAA and the conference presidents knew instantly that there would be some deserving teams left out, so instead of 8, the powers that be decided to bite the bullet and make it a full 16 team playoff. No more, no less. There are no more independent schools and each conference has a title game.
  • The playoffs are set to where the conference winner will play one of the selected 8 teams in the first round (technically the playoffs start with the conference championship games, but I digress) and it's still set up to where one side of the bracket features the #1 seed while the other side features #2.
  • The First Round takes place at the home field of the top seed. The 2nd round takes place in 2 selected neutral fields, both sites hosting 2 games each. The Final Four would take place in 2 of the rotating bowl games that is now being used for the current format. The playoffs begin the 2nd week of December.

B1G

- West // Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Kansas, Kansas St.

- East // Purdue, Indiana, Ohio St., Michigan, Michigan St., Penn St., Rutgers, Maryland

SEC

- West // Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss, Miss St., Texas A&M, Arkansas, LSU, TCU

- East // Florida, Georgia, S. Carolina, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Kentucky, Mizzou, UCF

ACC

- Atlantic // Clemson, FSU., N.C. State, Louisville, Notre Dame, Syracuse, Wake Forest, WVU

- Coastal // B.C., V-Tech, Duke, UNC, Miami, Virginia, Georgia Tech, Pitt

PAC 16

- West // Cal, Stanford, Washington, Washington St., Oregon, Oregon St., UCLA, USC

- East // Arizona, ASU, Colorado, Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Ok. St., Utah

E.U.S.A.C

- Eastern // UConn, ECU, WKU, Navy, Ohio, USF, Cincinatti, Army

- Central // Iowa St., Rice, Houston, SMU, Tulane, LTU, Tulsa, Memphis

W.U.S.A.C.

- Mountain // Baylor, UTEP, UTSA, Utah St., Wyomming, Colorado St., Air Force, BYU

- Pacific // Boise St., Idaho, UNLV, Nevada, Fresno St, SDSU, Hawaii, SJSU

Sun Belt

- East // Charlotte, Mid Tenn St., FIU, FAU, Georgia St., Troy, USA, Southern Miss.

- West // New Mexico, Texas St., Louisiana, ULM, Arkansas St., N. Texas, NMSU, Sam Houston St.

Rust Belt

- East // ODU, UMass, Temple, Buffalo, Appalachian St., Marshal, Kent St., Akron

- West // NDSU, NIU, Ball St., EMU, CMU, WMU, Toledo, Bowling Green

With a 16 team playoff:

13371722824_d82df51909_b.jpg

OR, two different 8 team playoffs

10007444_10202754863946151_8419771819079

With the Bowl games associated with it:

10169400_10202609903322226_1978737312_n.

And how this all works:

- For the first 5 years of this system, the 7th bowl game would just be another neutral 2nd/3rd round site.

- The second time that particular bowl is used for a playoff spot, it would be the site for the National Championship game. It would continue that way for 5 years and after that, the NCG would go back to the regular bowls used for it.

- for example:

  • 2015: NCG - Cotton / 7th Bowl - Indy
  • 2016: NCG - Rose / 7th Bowl - Outback
  • 2017: NCG - Sugar / 7th Bowl - Capital One
  • 2018: NCG - Fiesta / 7th Bowl - Texas
  • 2019: NCG - Orange / 7th Bowl - Holiday
  • 2020: NCG - Indy
  • 2021: NCG - Outback
  • 2022: NCG - Capital One
  • 2023: NCG - Texas
  • 2024: NCG - Holiday
  • 2025: NCG - Chick-Fil-A / 7th Bowl - Indy
  • 2026: NCG - Alamo / 7th Bowl - Outback

And so on...

Regular Season scheduling would require each school to play:

- All 7 schools in their respective division

- One school within the conference in the other division

- At least 2 (4, max) schools in other conferences (at least one from the "Major 4" and at least one from the "Minor 4")

In wake of the latest wave of changes within the NCAA and collegiate athletics, the HBCU community has pondered if they want to break away from the NCAA and form an association of their own. In this case, I have created the Historic Black Collegiate Athletic Association (HBCAA) from scratch.

There are three different tiers of competition regardless of sport. The tiers are determined off of the following factors: athletic budget, student enrollment, and athletic success. There are no penalties for playing a school from another tier. However, your schedule must consist of 80% of teams from your conference in order to be eligible for the HBCU National Tournament. You may notice that there are a collection of HBCU colleges from the NAIA along with the former NCAA members. Finally, media coverage would be done by BounceTV, TVOne, HSRN, and BET.

In light to the recent Tony Stewart incident... Some are saying he may have raced his last race as he could be facing jail time... With that said... Haas could discontinue partnership with Stewart ultimately leaving the door open for Dale Jr to take his spot creating Jr-Haas Motorsports. The lineup would be:

4- Kevin Harvick

9- Chase Elliot

10- Danica Patrick or Kurt Busch or Regan Smith

88- Dale Jr

I'll do one for every league. I promise you this will be the most wild and unrealistic pointless realignment. This is my first shot at this type of thing so it will show, haha. Every major metro area gets a team. First off, MLB.

There's way too many problems with yours...

1. I don't think Philadelphia and Boston could maintain two MLB franchises each

2. There shouldn't be 2 Dodgers and 2 Athletics franchises

3. TOO MANY DAMN EXPANSION TEAMS

Other than that you're good

I think that's why he said it would be wild and unrealistic.

The A's maintained in Philadelphia with the Phillies for almost 50 years.

Braves and Sox, 40 years.

Then again, it is called "unrealistic" and should not be taken seriously.

Any of you guys a fan of NCAA Division II stuff? Anyways, I was wondering if you guys have heard about this new conference called the Great American Conference (a league within the West South Central U.S., specifically Oklahoma and Arkansas). Currently, this 3-year league consists of the following member schools (with the school year that school joined the league in parenthesis):

GAC - East Division

Arkansas Tech University (2011)

University of Arkansas at Monticello (2011)

Harding University (2011)

Henderson State University (2011)

Ouachita Baptist University (2011)

Southern Arkansas University (2011)

GAC - West Division

East Central University (2011)

Northwestern Oklahoma State University (2012)

Southeastern Oklahoma State University (2011)

Southern Nazarene University (2012)

Southwestern Oklahoma State University (2011)

Oklahoma Baptist University (2015, from the NAIA)

I was wondering if the GAC would add fellow Oklahoma schools like these following:

University of Central Oklahoma (from the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association or MIAA)

Northeastern State University (from the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association or MIAA)

Your thoughts guys?

Florida State Seminoles fan for life (mostly on football, basketball and baseball)! 2011-12 ACC men's basketball conference tournament champions; 2012, 2013 & 2014 ACC football Atlantic Division champions; 2012, 2013 & 2014 ACC football regular season champions; 2012, 2013 & 2014 ACC football conference bowl tournament champions; 2014 NCAA D-I FBS BCS national champions!

Hey guys,

Haven't been on here for a while but I was thinking the other day about the NFL expanding again. I thought why not get on here and see what some of you think about it. Maybe this thread is in the wrong place (not really about logos but if anyone has a idea for a team name and logo for these cities below, by all means, go ahead and post them) but here it goes. The way I see it, in order keep continuity to what they already have (division, schedule, rivalries) I don't think they do any less than expanding but 8 more teams. This would keep the same 4 divisions in each conference but with 5 teams each. To keep the schedule makers happy, they would need to go to an 18 game schedule. They have talked about this already so it in not out of the realm of possibilities. This would keep teams playing their division twice a year (4 x 2 = 8 games) and then still keep playing another 2 full divisions once (5 x 2 = 10 games) on a rotating basis between all the divisions in the league. I think this is a great way to make NFL expansion work.

They only question remains is what cities get expansion teams. I know there has been a lot of talk on this everywhere, including this forum. But for more discussion's sake, here is my top eight US/Canadian cities to get expansion teams. I think I might even get a concept thread going on this soon as well.

  1. LA
  2. Anaheim (LA x 2)
  3. Toronto
  4. Vancouver
  5. San Antonio
  6. Las Vegas
  7. Portland, OR
  8. Oklahoma City

Honorable mentions: Montreal, Orlando, Norfolk VA, Omaha Neb, Honolulu HI

And if we want to talk about international teams, besides Canada, then here are my top international cities for NFL expansion teams.

  1. London
  2. Berlin
  3. Mexico City
  4. Tokyo

Honorable mentions: Beijing China, Amsterdam, Sydney Aus, Rio de Janeiro Brazil
