I guess some intern with ESPN couldn't be bothered to look up the proper nickname for Oklahoma City University, a school that has eleven NCAA tournament appearances... I hope Abe Lemons haunts them for all eternity.
A friend of mine showed me this lighter the other day. When I asked some other OU friends about it I was told the wings on the U were really common in the 70s.
I don't ever remember seeing that... the italics paperclip of the mid-70s to early 90s and the rounder, thinner-lettered paperclip from the 60s and earlier, but never this.
My thought is this may be unofficial/counterfeit. Up until the mid 90s (arrival of President Boren and Joe Castiglione as AD) Oklahoma was terrible when it came to controlling or benefiting from their licensing. I wonder if this is just an example of that lack of institutional control.
