NHL Anti-Thread: Bad Business Decision Aggregator

They're just waiting for Friday to fire everybody. -
Venom with a Snake or Scorpion themed identity and a purple-based color scheme could work well. Blizzard is just a bit too similar to Avalanche for me as @FinsUp1214 said. In general, I don't know if I've heard a nickname that I've totally fallen in love with and I think that a lot of that is due to the fact that it's hard to pair "Utah" with a nickname that compliments it well. Alliteration is basically impossible and some of the more organic options like Yellowjackets infringe too much on existing team names.

We're approaching an all-time ignominious end here. We're in Cleveland Barons territory. Yeah, I'm sure this is the guy who's going to close the magical arena deal in Scottsdale that no one else was able to for a quarter-century. -
On my stream the Dbacks CC looks like tapioca pudding.

MLB 2024 Uniform/Logo Changes
Silent Wind of Doom replied to TrueYankee26's topic in Sports Logo News
Huh. I went through every game on Getty two days ago. How the crap did I miss that?! Well, the first had this as the thumbnail for the game and I didn't realize that wasn't the regular home white. And the other I just must have accidentally not clicked thinking I did. The thumbnail for that is a Giants player. -
Those names are terrible. Hoping for the best, but it's Smith, so my expectations are rock bottom. Venom: Utah doesn't have a particularly large presence of poisonous animals, I suppose the imagery could draw on spiders, scorpions, or rattlesnakes though (assuming Gila monsters are out). Blizzard: Please God no. The others: I don't even know what you do with these. The Hockey Club options feel particularly tragic.

Rays throwbacks are in use and worn on home Fridays, and have been worn twice so far.
-
Yeah I’m not a huge fan of that either. The grey is too dark and shouldn’t be more prominent than red imo.
-
Venom? This song would be perfect as an entrance theme.
-
Sorry, too similar to division rival Tampa Bay in a black jersey.

Is gold (metallic, not athletic) the toughest shade to get right? It's good when it's rich. The Saints have done it. But often it's pale, washed out and awful like many Georgia Tech and Purdue football jerseys. It works better as shiny helmet or pants than jersey. Meanwhile, the 49ers looked "wrong" with an objectively good shade of gold and somehow look way better with traditional beige pants.

MLB 2024 Uniform/Logo Changes
Silent Wind of Doom replied to TrueYankee26's topic in Sports Logo News
Come on... Those things are clearly butterscotch. I've been watching the uniforms to update the current lineup for each teams. Here's the jerseys still MIA at the moment... Boston Red (although it was worn as Spring Training) and Navy Tampa Bay Gradient Toronto Powder Blue Angels City Connect Texas City Connect Cubs City Connect Milwaukee Pinstripe and City Connect St. Louis Cream and Powder Blue Atlanta Red and Navy Washington Pullover Dodgers Los Angeles Gray San Francisco Orange and City Connect Obviously, this early in the season there's plenty of chance some teams just haven't gotten the day to line up (usually home Friday) for them to wear their City Connect uniform and we've gotten direct word that some are delayed, but anyone heard any news on the rest of these? And inside scoop or official word I've missed on any of these being trashed? -
The split front back was far better than it sounds on paper. But today they'd probably wear it against another team wearing black. The Vince logo is too good to be a one and done, so that's good news.
-
I kind of like Venom...but almost immediately think of the energy drink. Something along the lines of their marketing could work
-
I don’t like any of those at all, but I’m inclined to believe these probably aren’t related to the team. Anything is possible, but Blizzard never seemed like a legitimate option when they’d be the Avalanche’s neighbor. I can’t imagine the Avs or the league signing off on that.

That’s a good point, and I hadn’t really considered that part of it. My area is going through a bit of that (on a much smaller scale, of course) with the Sharks and Knights. There are a disturbing amount of Knights fans where I live, and none of these fans seem to actually be from here. People who grew up here wouldn’t ever root for some :censored:ty Vegas team. That’s still essentially Los Angeles, Nevada as far as we’re concerned. -

You're correct. Salt Lake City would be the only market with just NBA & NHL. The last market I can remember like that was Vancouver (Canucks & Grizzlies) and we know what happened with the Grizzlies. -

No idea if it's related to Smith or the NHL, but the following were recently registered with the USPTO for the purpose of ice hockey exhibitions: Utah Venom Utah Blizzard Utah Fury Utah Hockey Club Utah HC

Is there another two-team market where the teams are NBA and NHL? It's not a configuration that comes to mind off the top of my head. Plenty of NFL + one of the other two, but that's still only partial overlap. Salt Lake City has the sort of demographics that the NHL likes to go after, but the problem is that that NHL-friendly demographic is deeply committed to the NBA. The Utah Jazz fanbase is much less given to writing about Kendrick Lamar lyrics; mostly they're just loud idiots who like rooting for their sports team. Again, I think there's going to be a major local/transplant fault line here with the hockey fans riding the SLUT to amazing craft breweries while the Mormons stick with the Jazz. -
That's fantastic

Alright, since I've been talking about it forever, I ran a quick & dirty mock-up of my ideal Falcons uniform with Dark Silver helmet (sans Gold): Add a Gold outline to the helmet stripe, logo, and the Swoosh & accessory details (like on cleats) if you wanted to go that route. Either way, this would do it. (I wouldn't even be completely heartbroken if they added a small 1" tall "ATLANTA" above the number in a clean new non-italic font.)
-
Yes, I completely did. Rest of the jersey was what I was after.
-
I would argue that we have more than enough classic looking teams. With Arizona having one of the most distinct designs in league history (talking about their Kachina look) I would like to see something similarly unique. Unique but not overtly cartoony. Seattle nailed this balance with their logo... Not so much with their striping.
