Well for one it references the team name, while none of their past logos (a stick and rink, a skate, and an orca) have. That's always a plus.

It also has history on its side. It was the logo was for the Vancouver Canucks hockey club years before they joined the NHL.

I'll never understand the appeal of that logo or Johnny Canuck. I guess I'm just anti-cartoon logos.

You're not alone...

What blows my mind is I just saw in the concept thread, someone do a Chicago Bulls logo redo and uniforms and talked about the Bulls logo looking dated. Yet, for whatever reason, this dated logo is praised. It's not a great logo, it's not horrible. If I was to give a grade on 1-10 point scale with 10 being best, it's about a 5. What's worse is the "bodiless" version of this logo.

For the record, I'm still convinced that the Giants (WHL) were selling retro-style ringer shirts with a variant of this logo (possibly even the original Canucks lumberjack logo) as recently as two years ago. I remember seeing them in the merch shop before a playoff game against the Bruins.

Perhaps one of the Vancouver kids on the boards, who have likely been to a lot more Giants games than I have, can confirm.

Color-corrected in all his glory...

I love this. If they slap it on both sweaters then it will automatically become the best primary logo in Canucks history, though that's not saying much. It's not perfect, but this is to me the best way to represent something as intangible as a "Canuck".

The easiest way to make it better would be to put some royal blue accents in the toque so it matches the pants and the head doesn't appear so flat.

The Canucks should just change their sweaters to green, with sublimated blue suspenders. No logo required. Blue pants with blue socks. You don't need a logo if you become the logo.

The funniest part of this to me is that, were the Canucks to do this, it would not be the most ridiculous uniform decision they've ever made.

Your response implies that such a uniform would be somewhat ridiculous, just not the most ridiculous ever. I don't think it would be ridiculous at all. A green sweater with a pair of wide blue vertical stripes outlined in white on the front and back over blue pants could be an excellent and distinctive uniform. Certainly no more ridiculous than horizontal black-red-white barber pole stripes or any other distinctive NHL jersey pattern. Take this idea a tiny step away from the notion of literal or sublimated suspenders and it's pure uniform design gold.

Then again, I'm a fan of both the orca C and the Johnny Canuck head-in-a-V logo, so what do I know?

Because the logo here isn't really the same logo as the original. It's been cleaned up, given a face-lift if you will. Much like the take on the Chicago Bulls logo in the thread in question.

Agreed as far as this being their replacement primary. I'm also not sold on a cartoon lumberjack on skates being used for a pro team's regular jersey. Maybe it would grow on me. As a secondary logo (or third jersey), I think it's perfect.

And it's still dated.
