Edmonton went about as well as I expected. I'm glad the alternate wasn't totally reviled, and it seems like the home and away were working just fine. So I'm moving on to the next team....

#13: Florida Panthers

I've always really liked the Panthers' logo, while still having a few minor qualms with it. First, it has way too many jagged lines. Also, Some of the elements (the pointy head, the tail, et c.) really don't resemble the corresponding features on a Florida panther. Finally, I'd love to see them use the gold color on the jerseys instead of the yellow. I know some will argue that colors in the logo don't necessarily need to match the colors on the jersey, I think here it can be done. The combination of the red, navy, and gold is unique to the NHL, and I think it looks great together. So those are the major changes I've made in updating the Panthers' logo. I think it came out pretty well.

For the uniforms, I went back to their previous style for inspiration, without the pointed shoulder yoke. It never worked for me, especially since it didn't match the rest of the stripes. So I'm using a simple angled stripe on the sleeves with a corresponding straight stripe on the waist and socks. Basically, I'm letting those colors speak for themselves here. I've also included the Panthers' palm tree/sun logo on the shoulders (recolored). In my opinion, it's among the best shoulder logos in the league.

For the alternate, I'm using an updated version of the leaping cat logo. I'm calling it "Florida Panther Leaping at Night." The focus here is on navy and gold, and I wanted to let the shadows on the panther's body melt into the surrounding navy "night." The alternate jersey has striping similar in style to the alternate logo.

I've never liked Florida's look. That said, this is a very sharp udate. The cat looks great in that mustard-y color.

I think the Panther could use a little more blue on it, especially around the head area. Not too much more, but some.

But then on that token, I almost think the alternate has just a little too much of the dark blue, and not enough of the gold or the red.

Other than that, another class set. Great job as always

I think the alt would look great if you switched the red and gold, and changed the middle blue to white

I think the Panther could use a little more blue on it, especially around the head area. Not too much more, but some.

The highlights/shadows on the head were by far the toughest part. I can understand wanting more blue shadows on the head from an aesthetic standpoint, but when you think about how the body is positioned and the way the rest of the shadows are falling (light source from the upper right), I'm not really sure where to add any more without making it look screwy.

As I said in my original post, I wanted to make it a "night" scene. (Thus all the navy blue, for those who complained about too much) The Panther needed an outline to give his body some definition, so I added the oval as an anchor. I thought it looked good as an alternate and it fit what I wanted to show, but maybe it's not working.

That panther head does need something. It would be nice if you could get some more blue on it. Even if it doesn't make sense from a reality standpoint, it would make the logo look better. Right now, the cat looks bald almost and not very scary. Great job on this series so far.

The jerseys are perfect. I think the main logo needs a bit of work but I love the jerseys. Nice work thus far.

I know what everyone were trying to say about Florida.. As a Floridian and Panthers fan... I think the panther's head look too rounded, it need some fur. That why it look bald, especially the cheeks, realistically they have furs sticking out a bit.. The eyes kinda bothers me, when you look at it from distance, it look like the panther's eyes are crossed.

Finally a red home jersey! Biggest mistake they ever made was switching to navy as their primary.

The shading on panther's head does look off, but I see what you're saying about the light source. Maybe a few wrinkles to add some definition and a slight shadow would be enough to break up the large gold area.

Thanks to all for the feedback. I still don't quite see the problem with the head, but I'm probably looking at it a bit too literally and not enough aesthetically. I'm a little backed up right now, but I'll try to get around to tweaking the Panthers' logo in the next few days...

The Oilers set looks great. I love the striping pattern you used. The small changes to the logo look good. The alternate is sweet. A little different for the Oilers, but I like it.

The Panthers set is perfect. The updated logo is great. The jersey designs are good too. The alternate jersey is interesting. I like the basic look of it, but I'm still a little unsure about the logo.

#14: Los Angeles Kings

I wanted to keep a crown as the primary logo for the Kings, but I wanted to go in a different direction stylistically. Both of the crowns used by LA over the years have been very detailed and overly busy. Also, their original crown was very curvilinear, and the current crown is an odd mix of sweeping curves and sharp angles that doesn't seem to come together. So I went with a much more pared-down look that I think works better as a logo and crest.

I debated over colors for a while... I've kept the purple (as the primary) and black, and added a metallic gold, sort of as an homage to the yellow in the original colors. I almost went with silver instead of gold (or a yellower gold), but I think the color I chose works best. The silver was nice, but a silver crown didn't look as good and somehow doesn't seem as "kingly" as gold. My guess is that many of you will think the colors are too dark, and I'm up for reinterpreting/tweaking them.

For the uniforms, I went with a pretty standard set; as with the Panthers, I think it's sufficient to let the Kings get by with their unique color scheme. I did keep their heavy shoulder yoke--which I don't usually like; for some reason it just seems to look good to me on the Kings. The shoulder patch has an orb-and-scepter theme (with the scepters becoming hockey sticks), with a flanking LA and crown beneath. For the alternate, I went back to one of my favorite jerseys of all time, the all-black set from the Gretzky days. I dropped the purple (except on logos) and focused on black, white, and gold. I also took the shoulder patch, dropped the purple, and used it as the alternate crest. It's different but I think it looks good as an alternate, to be worn rarely.

***Note: I'm still trying to come up with something for the Florida logo. Nothing I've done so for has been satisfactory, but I'll keep at it.

This Kings concept rocks! I once worked on an alternate for the kings that had sceptres as well. The hockey sticks look a little like field hockey sticks though.

Nice color combination. I can see how the silver crown would not seem kingly. Incorporating purple jewels in the crown is genius.

I don't like black jerseys but that alternate is purchase worthy.

- I love the jerseys. I cant find anything wrong with any of the jerseys except for the fact that the alt. is lacking purple. I dont know how you could add it in, but I think the alt. needs some purple. Maybe make the area between the gold and white stripe a little bit bigger and make it purple? With it being just black and gold, it looks like the Stars.

- The alt. logo is amazing

- Not feeling the crown. I dont know what it is but it doesnt look like a professional sports team logo to me. Even though you consider the crown they use now busy, I think its better than the one you chose.
