no97 Posted June 6, 2005 Share Posted June 6, 2005 I'm heading out on a tour of MLB parks starting July 1, 2005, starting at the Great American Ballpark to see the 'Stros play the Reds. From there, it's the Rockies @ the Cards on 7/2, Angels @ Royals 7/3, Red Sox @ Rangers 7/4, Padres @ Astros 7/5, a day off to tour the French Quarter in New Orleans 7/6 and we'll wrap up with the Cubs @ Braves on 7/7. This is a tour put on by Diamond Baseball Tours.com, and I have done one of their tours before (last summer), and had a blast (that one started @ Wrigley, went to the Jake, Fenway, Yankee Stadium, Camden Yards, Cooperstown and Comerica). Down time is typically very limited, as the bus travel can be quite lengthy between games. What I'm looking for here, is, some suggestions on what to do at each park. What should I absolutly not miss. Not only can you take shots of a stadium that won't be standing come the end of November, you also have an opportunity to take pix of the new Busch Stadium from the inside, seeing as how it's being built around the southern third of the existing park. Hell yes, that thing is freakin awesome, especially at nite. Also, try to go to the Top of the Chop fo soem good eating and a great view, and watch out for the big drum that some random drum player from one of the Atlanta Black Colleges hits when the Tomahawk Chop begins. I be youll like that a lot. And one last thing, if youve never gone to the French Quarters in New Orleans, Get ready to be amazed, its like a whole different world. Not sure how much time I'll have, since I'm waking up in Louisville, KY that morning, and touring the Slugger Museum before bussing to St. Louis...As for the rest, I'll print this stuff off before I go, and again, keep it comming! I'm still looking for some for KC. It looks like we'll have a bit of time there, as we wake up in Columbia, MO, and leave for the Negro League HOF at 9 a.m. Game time isn't until 6:10 p.m., so I'd imagine there'd still leave some exploring time. BBQ suggestions anyone?Also, I haven't heard much about Minute Maid besides, "you'll realy enjoy it." Anything to not miss there?Same question for the French Quarter... TBGKon Posted June 8, 2005 Share Posted June 8, 2005 I 've only been to a game at Minute Maid once, but I'd have to say make sure you enter through the Union Station entrance if possible and walk the whole lower concourse, and in left-center, take your pic next to the Conoco gas pump, whichif I remember correctly, counts every homer hit there. Its really cool, plus 3 free beers at the end!The Landing is alot of fun, but so is Al Hrbosky's Ballpark Saloon, located just south of Busch. Just walk south, under the interstate and you'll see it. Its kinda the official hangout of Illini fans during the final 4 and of course Cardinal Fans. There's a really good chance you'll see Al himself, picking up garbage or doing something else that a $5 an hour employee should be doing.Busch stadium food is horrible. I'd recomend one of 2 things. there's a BBQ place inside the stadium, but its on the northwest corner of the outside. (If that makes sense) I'd go there, but its pricy. Or I'd bring my food in.
